Correctional Health Services (CHS) therapists provide clinical mental health services utilizing Trauma Informed Care to inmates with mental illness, serious mental illness, or substance use disorders and/or co-occurring disorders of mental illness, serious mental illness, and chemical dependency. They also provide case management services and discharge planning by interviewing inmate patients to assess mental health needs and formulate treatment plans. They function as a team member in a multi-disciplinary work setting where they collaborate with Sheriff's Office staff to manage inmate patients' daily activities. The Ideal Candidate will possess

• A current license as either a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Marriage and Family Therapist.

San Mateo County Health's Public Health, Policy and Planning Division has exciting field-based opportunities for well-qualified and motivated Nurse Practitioners to provide both primary and urgent care to adults from vulnerable populations within our community—people experiencing homelessness and/or in shelters, monolingual Spanish speakers and other new immigrants, and those without insurance or underinsured. These services are provided through various Mobile Clinic modalities and venues, including but not limited to street medicine, shelter medicine, and the mobile coach. We are looking for collaborative Nurse Practitioners to work in and lead various multidisciplinary service teams in the field to provide comprehensive, low-threshold, client-centered care and engagement.

Teams are staffed by a Nurse Practitioner (NP), Psychiatrist, Medical Services Assistant, AOD Case Manager, and Patient Services Assistants. These teams work closely with our community partners from the Human Services Agency and community-based organizations who locate and identify clients needing medical and/or mental health services, as well as provide additional health, housing, and social services in the field.

Under general supervision, Nurse Practitioners provide urgent care and primary health care services such as physical examinations, chronic disease management (e.g., diabetes and hypertension), and referrals/linkages to specialty clinics as appropriate.

Currently, Public Health Clinics has one full-time, regular, 40-hour-per-week vacancy for a bilingual Spanish Nurse Practitioner and two 40-hour-per-week, Limited-Term Nurse Practitioner vacancies, requiring flexible schedules and field-based work at different locations. Sixty-five percent of the NP’s time will be in the field, with the remainder spent in the office documenting notes, placing orders, and coordinating with other staff as needed.

The ideal candidate has experience:

• In family practice addressing chronic disease management

• In the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections

• Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams

• With the underserved population, including those who are homeless

• In a flexible, dynamic work environment

• With electronic medical records

• Using Spanish in a medical context

Examples of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide low-threshold, comprehensive care for San Mateo County’s most marginalized and vulnerable populations, including people experiencing homelessness, those in shelters, migrant and immigrant farmworkers, the recently incarcerated, the uninsured, and those with financial challenges.

• Provide comprehensive and urgent care in a variety of non-traditional settings, including homeless encampments, outdoor locations, shelters, and a mobile RV clinic.

• Demonstrate the ability to work closely and collaboratively with a small team in often challenging environments (e.g., homeless encampments, shelters, extreme weather, individuals under the influence, or those with mental health challenges).

• Take stewardship of medical care for assigned geographic populations and/or shelters.

• Outreach to and build long-term, trust-based relationships with vulnerable populations.

• Assess patients’ physical, emotional, and social status through medical history, physical examinations, and diagnostic screenings; evaluate clinical findings and lab results.

• Identify and manage common illnesses and other health problems.

• Refer urgent issues beyond scope to appropriate specialists.

• Deliver longitudinal care in assigned areas.

• Collaborate with other health professionals following protocols for diagnosis and treatment.

• Build relationships with community partners to improve health outcomes and expand services.

• Counsel families regarding health maintenance and care.

• Coordinate referrals to other health or social agencies.

• Maintain accurate records of assessments, follow-ups, and evaluations.

• Supervise subordinate health workers and participate in meetings.

• Actively participate in quality improvement efforts.

• Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

• Education: Completion of an advanced nursing degree from a program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), with emphasis in a Nurse Practitioner specialty area.

• Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of paid experience in an acute and/or ambulatory care setting.

Licensure

• California Registered Nurse license

• California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) Nurse Practitioner license

San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) seeks a board eligible or board-certified psychiatrist to serve as a staff Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist within BHRS. The position is full time, and provides child psychiatric diagnostic and therapeutic services to clients in various divisions of San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services. Potential service sites include our outpatient behavioral health clinics, the Canyon Oaks Youth Center (youth residential program), the Youth Services Center, the Therapeutic Day School programs, the Transitional Age Youth program, and BHRS’s integrated behavioral health team co-located within the County’s pediatric clinics. San Mateo County Health's Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Division is seeking a responsible, innovative leader and skilled clinician for the position of Supervising Mental Health Clinician - East Palo Alto Services. This Supervising Mental Health Clinician will supervise and coordinate the work of mental health professionals and interns in the East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park geographic area in San Mateo County. This position works closely with community members and community providers to develop and sustain programming that is culturally and community responsive.

This position will participate in program administration, planning and evaluation. The Supervising Mental Health Clinician supervises and guides the clinical team who provides services to seriously emotionally disturbed youth and their families, and seriously mentally ill adults. Services provided include: medication assessment and management; individual, group and family therapy; psychological assessment; case management; rehabilitation services; and crisis intervention.

The current vacancy is in the East Palo Alto Community Counseling Center, located in East Palo Alto but will travel throughout San Mateo County for client visits, trainings and meetings.

The East Palo Alto Community Counseling Center offers a unique setting to provide services to a diverse population in a community-oriented clinic.

This position supervises a multidisciplinary team that provides clinical outpatient services to adults and children and their families. The team may include psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurses and social workers and marriage and family therapists. The clinical teams also include master and doctoral level interns and psychiatric residents. In providing clinical services team members also relate to peer counselors and parent partners.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Knowledge of system of care principles and general services.
• Knowledge of program management techniques and practices.
• Demonstrated expertise and skill in clinical work with adults with serious mental illnesses and youth with serious emotional disturbances; and clients with co-occurring disorders.
• Experience working with clients of diverse cultures and backgrounds and with underserved and/or isolated communities.
• Knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice modalities, e.g. Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Solution Focused Brief Treatment.
• Knowledge of Medi-Cal and Medicare regulations and managed mental health care.
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic and evaluation skills.
• Strong supervisory/leadership skills which demonstrate an ability to direct and motivate a multi-disciplinary team.
• Experience guiding or supervising others during a systemic or programmatic change process.
• Collaborative skills and the ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with consumers, families, professionals and the public; including collaborative community engagement to plan and implement needed services.
• Ability to make sound decisions based on the exercise of judgment and the consideration of all available information.
• Fluency in Spanish and English is preferred.

Reporting to the Superintendent of Institutions, the Assistant Superintendent plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the care, custody, and rehabilitation of youth in juvenile hall. You’ll manage core operations and supervise staff across functional areas while fostering a culture rooted in accountability, respect, and positive transformation. Inside the hallways of the Youth Services Center School Department. This role requires sound judgment, strong administrative skills, and a deep understanding of juvenile justice practices. You’ll work closely with medical and mental health professionals, court representatives, and community partners to ensure comprehensive support for youth in custody.

• Directly supervise and support Institution Services Managers and facility staff
• Ensure safe and effective operation of juvenile facilities in compliance with state and local policies
• Interpret court orders and oversee appropriate case execution

• Analyze data, prepare reports, and drive operational improvements
• Represent the Probation Department at meetings, hearings, and public forums

• Knowledge of human behavior, justice systems, or rehabilitation, gained through education, training, or experience

Under administrative direction of the City Manager, plans, organizes and provides administrative direction and oversight for all public works functions and activities, which include infrastructure engineering, design and construction, streets and traffic control, underground lines, review of private sector development, facility, parks and infrastructure maintenance and operation of water distribution and sanitary sewer collection systems; provides expert professional assistance to City management staff in areas of expertise; fosters cooperative working relationships with intergovernmental and regulatory agencies and various public and private groups; and performs related work as required.

Example of Duties:

• Develops and directs the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards for the department; prepares and administers the department’s budget. Plans, programs and schedules engineering and support personnel on assigned projects and programs.
• Plans, organizes, administers, reviews and evaluates the work of professional, technical, maintenance and office support staff through subordinate levels of supervision.
• Provides for the selection, training, professional development and work evaluation of department staff; authorizes discipline as required; provides policy guidance and interpretation to staff.
• Contributes to the overall quality of the department’s service by developing, reviewing and implementing policies and procedures to meet legal requirements and City needs.
• Performs the duties of the City Engineer as prescribed by State law and City ordinances, including overseeing the preparation of engineering plans and specifications, the construction of public projects, and the administration of professional service, construction, maintenance and other contracts.
• Confers with and represents the department and the City in meetings with members of the City Council, members of boards and commissions, various governmental agencies, developers, contractors, business and industrial groups and the public.
• Oversees the development or update of the City’s Comprehensive Sewer and Water Plans, the Capital Improvement Plan and other plans related to municipal infrastructure.
