The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a qualified person for the position of Administrative Support (casual, part-time position).  Below you will find a general description of the position, however we are in need of someone to assist us with the following essential duties/tasks:

• General office support (i.e., answering phones, computer input, customer service).
• Prepare Commission agenda, post/notice, and take and prepare meeting minutes monthly.
• Type and process lengthy reports.
• Process Cal Cards monthly, and invoicing/payments weekly.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a valid State of California driver’s license, and Early Childhood Education units are preferred. Candidates should have at least one year of paid experience in a classroom, after-school program, or camp environment, along with a minimum of a high school diploma. Applicants must demonstrate leadership experience working with youth and strong verbal and written communication skills. The position requires the ability to work independently while following direction from higher-level Recreation staff, as well as the ability to assist with training and mentoring team members. Established in 1866, the San Francisco Fire Department is rich in tradition and history. From the Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906 to the Loma Prieta Earthquake of 1989, the Department has grown to meet the many challenges along the way. Today, the San Francisco Fire Department serves an estimated 1.5 million people, providing fire suppression, fire prevention and emergency medical services to the residents, visitors and workers within San Francisco's 49 square miles.

Under general supervision, an H002 Firefighter engages in firefighting and related activities for the saving of life and property; administers first responder treatment, including first aid; and responds to a variety of emergency situations involving public safety and medical care. A Firefighter also may be assigned duties in connection with fire prevention activities, including the inspection of businesses, schools, and homes to ensure fire safety; maintaining station quarters; and performing other duties as assigned. Firefighters are required to work 24-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays. During those shifts, a Firefighter lives and works in close quarters with three or more individuals at a fire station. A Firefighter must cooperate and work effectively with the other members of his or her team.

1) Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Written Test
The FCTC Written Test was developed by the California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship

Committee (Cal-JAC).
The FCTC Written Exam is a 100 question, multiple choice test consisting of the following four

sections:

• Section 1 – Recall and Comprehend Verbal and Visual Information. This section requires candidates to watch two short videos and answer questions based on the scenarios presented.
• Section 2 – Apply Mechanical Reasoning
• Section 3 – Solve Mathematical Problems
• Section 4 – Recall and Comprehend Technical Information from Written Materials

The FCTC Written Test is administered, at minimum, quarterly. Additional tests will be added as needed, so check this website frequently. FCTC does not administer online tests.

2) Emergency Medical Technician Certification: Candidates must possess at minimum an NREMT certification verified through FCTC to be placed on the eligibility list. Possession of a current, valid CA Paramedic license [in good standing] may be provided in lieu of the EMT certification. 3) Candidates must have a valid CPAT with a testing date within one year during the Chief’s Interview and maintain their CPAT through the date background packets are due.

Candidate names will remain on the eligible list for a maximum period of 24 months. The Fire Department has the authority to hire any candidate named on the eligible list (“Rule of List”). Therefore, one’s placement on this list neither guarantees nor implies an offer of employment. Candidates who receive an offer of employment may waive the offer only two times. Experience: Three (3) years of experience in the areas of workplace safety and employee training, including at least one (1) year of which involved administration of a comprehensive safety and accident prevention program. The Position
Under the direct supervision of a Lead Worker, or higher level staff, the Parks and Tree Worker performs a variety of skilled gardening, landscape and tree maintenance duties associated with the development, repair, and maintenance of public landscaped areas and trees, and performs related work as required.

Examples of Duties (include but are not limited to the following)

• Maintain grounds and plantings in City parks, recreation facilities, playground areas, municipal building grounds, and street median islands.

• Operate automatic irrigation controllers and assist in the installation of irrigation systems.
• Assist tree trimmers by lowering cut limbs with ropes and assist in removing trees and stumps.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of: Basic methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in grounds and tree maintenance work; basic construction and repair methods; and safe work practices.

Ability to: Perform semi-skilled landscape maintenance work; learn to operate the full range of light and heavy equipment used in landscape and tree maintenance work; work off of ladders; set up safe work sites; learn geography of the City and sites of City parks and maintenance areas; work cooperatively and effectively with co-workers and provide general assistance to the public; work weekends and holidays as required; learn multiple safety procedures and practices related to landscape maintenance, tree maintenance and tree removal.

Skills: Ability to efficiently use hand and power tools listed above required in general park and tree work, and learn to use new equipment as required.

Education and Experience: Sufficient education and experience to perform the above duties which is typically obtained through prior experience in gardening, grounds keeping, landscape, construction or tree work and completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.

License/Certificate: Class C driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.

Physical, Mental and Environmental Working Conditions
Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting trees and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing 55 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot, and cold. The incumbent may use herbicides, which may expose the employee to fumes, dust, and air contaminants, and be exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to use power and noise producing tools and equipment, including the frequent use of chain saws, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions, use proper safety equipment when using noisy and dangerous equipment, hear well enough to follow directions, and see well enough to read instructions.

The City of Pacifica's Public Works Department is recruiting for a Building Maintenance Specialist. This is a full-time position with benefits and a compensation schedule range of $6529- $7,755 per month. This position works a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. This position is included in a bargaining unit under Teamsters MISC Local No. 856.

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, to perform skilled carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and electrical work involving rough and finished construction, installation, and repair work

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the skilled level class in the building maintenance series.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receive general supervision from higher-level staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

• Operates woodworking machinery such as sanders, planers, and power saws in the construction of cabinets, shelves, stairways, and other wooden articles or structures;
• Hangs doors and installs wooden sashes;
• Lays finished flooring;
• Instels, remodels, repairs and maintains electric, HVAC, wiring and plumbing systems, furniture, roofs, and other general repairds to buildings;
• Installs wall board;
• Prepares walls for plastering and refinishing;
• Maintains and services carpentry equipment and tools;
• Repairs small motors, heaters, boilers, and broken water lines; may do occasional general public works construction and maintenance work.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of

• Materials and methods used in both rough and finished carpentry and most other areas of the construction field;
• Plumbing maintenance, installation, and finishing

Skill/Ability to

• Prepare rough sketches of work and estimates of materials and labor;
• Read blueprints and work according to plans and specifications;
• Carry out oral and written directions;
• Use and operate mechanical tools; ;
• Work with others.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way of qualifying is:

Experience: Two years of progressively responsible experience performing public works building maintenance duties

Substitution: Completion of an accredited apprenticeship in the construction field or may substitute for two years.

Training: Graduation from high school and

LICENSE

Ability to drive and possess a valid California driver’s license.  May be required to qualify for and obtain a Class A or Class B driver’s license and be subject to random drug and alcohol testing under the Department of Transportation regulations.
