About the Position: The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) seeks a Public Affairs Intern to assist with a variety of tasks, including researching and writing for Midpen print and digital publications, creating web and social media content, representing Midpen at community events, working with community partner organizations, managing photo databases, drafting media advisories and press releases and other duties as assigned. This internship will provide valuable training in public affairs strategies and activities. This position reports to the Public Affairs Specialist leading media relations, with additional assignments from other communications project/program leads. The expected start date for this position is March 2026.

Basic Requirements: Internships are open to applications from current students or recent graduates (within the last 12 months). Successful candidates will have a background in public affairs, communications, public relations, marketing, policy and government, journalism, community relations, customer service or a similar field. Candidates who also have experience, knowledge of or an interest in natural history and sciences, environmental studies, parks and open space or interpretation would benefit from this internship. Experience with social media platforms and tools, website content management systems, event management and email marketing platforms are a plus. Possession of a valid California driver’s license is required. 

 Working Conditions/Schedule: The Public Affairs Intern will work at Midpen’s Administrative Office in Los Altos, CA.  Midpen offers a hybrid work environment for this position, and will be divided between on-site work at the Administrative Office in Los Altos, at-home office work and some outdoor work. Candidates should expect to work from the office a minimum of 2 days each week. This position will be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for in-person special events. The intern will be required to work the weekends of April 18 & 19, April 25 & 26, May 2 & 3 and June 6 & 7. This is a temporary position working 20 – 40 hours per week, which will extend up to a total of 950 hours over a 6-9 month period. This is a non-benefited position.

Requirements:  Basic requirements include high school diploma or G.E.D.; possession of a valid California driver’s license; skills to perform basic construction and maintenance assignments; ability to perform manual labor requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting; and the ability to work in, or around, poison oak. Highly desirable traits include prior work experience in a park, forest, or public recreation area involving work with equipment and tools used in park maintenance.  Candidates selected for the position will be required to successfully pass and obtain a certification in Basic First Aid/CPR, AED for Lay Responders.   

Schedules: This is a full-time (preferred), Monday through Friday position, with occasional weekend and holiday work required. Seasonal assignments will not exceed 950 hours or 6 months, whichever comes first, and do not include benefits. Seasonal Open Space Technicians are expected to work a minimum of 5 consecutive months.

Working Conditions:  Employees work in the field in rugged and remote areas and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical or electrical hazards, hazardous physical substances and fumes, and poison oak.

About the Position: The Maintenance, Construction, and Resource Supervisor supervises the staff responsible for carrying out capital improvement projects, managing natural resources, and performing general preserve maintenance. The ideal candidate will plan, prioritize, and oversee construction and maintenance work; communicate effectively and collaborate with other departments to complete project requirements; coordinate with consultant teams; work with local and regulatory jurisdictional agencies to meet permitting requirements; evaluate employee performance; and ensure all safety procedures are followed. The position works under the general direction of the Capital Projects Manager or Area Manager and provides direct and general supervision to technical and maintenance staff. Assigned Location: Midpen has one vacancy for the position of Maintenance Supervisor. This is the Capital Projects Maintenance Supervisor and reports to the Capital Projects Field Manager. The start date for this position is early March 2026.  The reporting location is the Foothills Field Office - Cupertino (Address: 501 Rancho San Antonio Drive, Cupertino, CA 95014).  Current work schedule is on site Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., recurring 9/80 Monday day off.

Working Conditions: Work is a combination of office work and outdoor setting within the District’s open space lands with exposure to inclement weather conditions. • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Professional Rescuer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid First Responder or equivalent certification.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, the level of certification in the Incident Command System courses as specified under the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a District approved Fire Suppression Training certification.
• Depending on assignment, possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate Qualified Applicator’s certificate.
• Depending on assignment, possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Grade I Water Treatment Operator Certificate and Grade I Water Distribution Operator Certificate issued by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).
• Possession of a valid California Class A or Class B Driver License desirable but not required.

The Santa Clara County Housing Authority (SCCHA) is seeking a Risk Analyst to join our highly collaborative and dedicated team in advancing the Housing Authority’s risk management and insurance programs. The Risk Analyst will have the opportunity to expand their expertise in risk management, insurance programs, and property mitigation. They will also gain experience in policy development, analytical research, and strategic planning, providing a comprehensive approach to risk management. The Risk Analyst will evaluate, design, and coordinate SCCHA’s risk management efforts, including insurance programs, property and construction risk, and claims management programs. They will help evaluate, manage, and mitigate risks across all agency functions and departments, including physical property and residential real estate, information technology, human resources, capital improvement, and new construction projects. 

In the first year, the Risk Analyst will improve claims/incident report protocols, evaluate and enhance SCCHA’s existing risk management and insurance programs, including researching insurance options in the face of rising insurance costs, and administer SCCHA’s insurance policies and manage insurance-related claims and negotiations. 

The ideal candidate will have: 

• Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to insurance and risk management.

VTA’s Engineering and Program Delivery (EPD) Division is seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer for the Quality Assurance (QA) Group under the Technical Services Department.  

Quality Assurance Group: 
The QA Group supports all capital improvement programs for the Division during planning, design, procurement, construction and closeout phases of highway, rail, transit and facilities projects.  As a Senior Transportation Engineer, you will play an important role in ensuring delivery of quality products and services for the Division. It is the responsibility of the QA Group to ensure the development of each project’s Contract-specific Quality Management Plan (CQMP) and to conduct audits and surveillances, based on the approved CQMPs, to monitor and assure effective implementation. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with VTA staff, consultants and contractors, attention to detail and ability to lead the QA team with day-to-day activities are desirable skill sets.

• Supervises and directs projects in connection with the planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation of transportation systems including fixed guideways, highway transit, bicycle, airport, and other facilities;

• Conducts transit planning and supervises the scheduling of transit operations;
• Supervises the preparation specifications and related documents used in advertising transportation projects for bids;

• Coordinates with utilities and land and water companies in matters of relocation and rights-of-ways;
• Coordinates legal assistance in the preparation of resolutions, agreements and other legal documents;

Minimum Qualifications:

Employment Standards
Training and experience equivalent to graduation from college with major work in engineering and five years professional engineering experience on transportation systems or projects, including assignments which provided the opportunity to demonstrate supervisory abilities.

Registration as a professional engineer in the State of California in a field related to transportation engineering at the time of appointment.
