EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Education:

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent. 

Experience:

• Two (2) years of increasingly responsible support experience with a public agency working in building inspection, planning, or engineering or equivalent private sector experience with a high level of public contact and experience explaining procedures and regulations.

License:

• This classification requires the ability to travel independently within and outside of City limits.

AHA is seeking a Facilities and Maintenance Technician I to perform a range maintenance and alterations on Housing Authority buildings and facilities, HVAC, and other electrical and mechanical systems; identifying and evaluating construction-related problems; performing installation and repairs on plumbing systems; conducting property inspections, and coordinating with vendors on maintenance replacement and repair projects. The Public Works Department is made up of four divisions: Engineering, Building Inspection, Maintenance, and Environmental Services. The City Engineer will be a key leadership position oversees the Engineering Division, ensuring the efficient delivery of public works projects, transportation initiatives, and infrastructure improvements that enhance the quality of life for our residents. 

The incumbent in this position will be instrumental in directing the planning, design, and construction of public infrastructure projects, overseeing both city-led developments and private sector contributions. This includes the review and approval of subdivision maps, street designs, stormwater management, and adherence to city and state standards for engineering projects. As a vital contributor to the City’s long-term development, the City Engineer will manage the City's Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), ensuring that infrastructure projects are aligned with the needs of our growing community. 

Some of the City's exciting in-progress and upcoming projects that this position will be involved in include: 

• A streetscape project funded with regional grants and state earmarks, celebrating a beginning to development of the downtown area. 

• A full list can be seen in the 2024-2026 Biennial Budget and Capital Improvement Plan (starting on page 201).  

This position reports to the Public Works Director and supervises a talented team of professional, technical, and paraprofessional staff. The City Engineer will also act in the absence of the Public Works Director, providing crucial leadership and decision-making in the department. 

A few key aspects of this position are: 

• Leadership & Supervision: Direct the activities of the Engineering Division by assigning, supervising, and evaluating the work of staff and ensure that city projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with legal requirements. 

• Project Oversight: Lead the development and implementation of major street, transportation, and capital projects through plan and specification review, bidding process management, and construction and inspection. 

• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all private development and public improvement plans comply with state and local codes, including the preparation and review of subdivision maps and stormwater management initiatives. 

• Capital Improvement Management: Administer the City’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), including project selection, budget oversight, and coordination with City Council and other stakeholders. 

• Grant Applications & Management: Apply for federal and state grants to fund various public works projects. Monitor the expenditure and compliance of awarded grants. 

• Collaboration & Communication: Provide guidance to other City departments and the public on civil engineering and urban development matters. Represent the City in regional discussions and public meetings.

POLICE OFFICER - Academy Graduate - $8,134 to $11,030 per month (up to $12,684 with incentives)

The City of Pleasant Hill is currently seeking applicants for Police Officer Academy Graduate. We offer excellent pay, benefits, opportunities for promotion, as well as the opportunity to serve a great community that values the services we provide.

Police Officers can serve in patrol, traffic, investigations, and K-9 assignments. Other collateral opportunities include instructor positions (Firearms and Force Options Team), Regional SWAT, Mobile Field Force, 10851 Task Force, CSI, Regional Major Accident Investigation Team, Driving Team with firearms and force options team, Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), FBI Safe Streets Task Force, SET Team, Drone Team, Social Media Team, Community Resource Officer, School Resource Officer, and Field Training Officers. Officers work 12-hour shifts as part of a team concept. Shift schedules include 4-10 and 3-12, which may be changed periodically as job assignments may be rotated among patrol, traffic, and criminal investigation.  Night shifts include 5% additional pay. 

EDUCATION:

Academy Graduates (no sworn experience) - High school diploma and a minimum of 45 units of college-level course work, in addition to graduation from a P.O.S.T. basic academy.

Academy Graduate candidates with an honorable discharge may be credited with up to 15 semester units for a minimum of 3 years of active duty in the U.S. Armed Services (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard).

The City of Newark is seeking an experienced skateboarding instructor who can connect with participants of all ages, especially youth and teens. The Recreation Instructor will be responsible for the planning and implementation of skateboarding classes to be held at Mel Nunes Skatepark in Newark. Responsibilities include teaching fundamental techniques, promoting safety, and creating an encouraging environment where participants can build confidence and have fun while learning to skate.

REQUIREMENTS

• Must be Available for a variety of shifts and times to meet program needs including weekends. 
• City application (Only accepted via Calopps)
• At least 18 years old at the time of application submission.
• Equivalent to a high school diploma, G.E.D., or California High School Proficiency Examination
• Must successfully pass a TB test before an appointment, which is at your own cost.
