The San Mateo Police Department is accepting applications for Police Officer Trainee

Possession of and ability to maintain a valid California Driver’s License.

Possession of a POST (Peace Officer Standards & Training) written examination certificate with a preferred T-Score of 52 or above and a passing score for the WSTB physical agility examination. Or possession of a National Testing Network Law Enforcement written examination certificate with a preferred score in the 90th percentile and a passing score for the WSTB physical agility examination.

Necessary Special Qualifications:

Free of any felony convictions.

Effective January 1, 2023, peace officers must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law. There are no specific citizenship requirements per Senate Bill 2. California Government Code Section 1031(h) limits employment authorization documents to those consistent with Section 274a.2 of Title 8 of the Code of Federal Regulations. Specific documentation requirements can be found on the I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification form issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Government Code section 1031(g) permits departments to adopt additional and/or higher standards.

Age not less than 21-years-old at time of appointment to the rank of police officer.

Vision in each eye, correctable to at least 20/30.

Must pass a background investigation.

Must meet all Department medical, physical and psychological standards.

The Position:

This is a non-sworn classification structured for incumbents hired for the purpose of becoming a sworn police officer.  Police Officer Trainees are hired into this civilian position for the period prior and during the time they are assigned to a POST-certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy.  Upon successful completion of training at the academy and upon the availability of a Police Officer position, Police Officer Trainees are sworn in and appointed to the classification of Police Officer.  Police Officer Trainee benefits are limited to those of a civilian employee.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for the position of Police Cadet (3 positions available).  This is an excellent job opportunity for students interested in law enforcement.  Under direct supervision, this fixed-term/limited term, civilian position provides general and specific information and assistance to the public.  The position also provides logistical assistance to all police department functions.  The primary assignments for the Cadet position are crime prevention, patrol support, and records/front office support. 

This position performs the following essential job duties:

• Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment
• Photocopies documents, files reports and manages additional work requests
• Uses personal computers and software applications for data entry and records maintenance
• Ensures proper calibration and maintenance of technical equipment and instruments
• Cleans and maintains work areas and machinery
• Assists with vehicle fleet cleaning and maintenance
• Performs related duties as required

$5,000 Signing Bonus
There is a 4% COLA that will be effective the first full pay period of July 2023, 2024, and 2025.  Sworn staff have the option of contributing the unused health insurance balance to a 457 or taxable cash of unused balance (up to $670/month).

Lathrop Police Department 
The City of Lathrop Police Department was established in June 2022. The Department consists of the Chief of Police, 2 Commanders (Operations and Support Divisions), 6 Sergeants, and 31 Police Officers. Police Officer 
The City is looking for experienced Police Officers to fill a current vacancy. Newly hired Police Officers will be enthusiastic and compassionate individuals committed to community policing and dedicated to addressing the needs of the community.  Under general supervision, performs law enforcement and crime prevention tasks and duties related to the protection of public health, safety, and welfare; patrols an assigned area to ensure the enforcement of all applicable federal, state, and local laws; performs investigative work; and performs additional related duties as assigned.

College-level coursework and specialized training in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field are highly desirable.

Additional Requirements:
Must be at least 21 years of age; must successfully complete a comprehensive P.O.S.T. background investigation, physical examination, drug testing, and psychological evaluation; must be legally authorized to work in the United States by federal law at the time of appointment and meet all California State Minimum Selection Standards set forth by P.O.S.T. and California law.

License/Certificate:

• Possession of a valid California P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate or valid California P.O.S.T Basic Course Waiver at the time of application.

The Police Officer Trainee is the entry-level position for those who have not yet attended the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified training academy. The academy is a six month long process and the first step in your law enforcement career. Trainee's starting salary is $30.68 hourly (while attending the academy), plus excellent benefits.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Police Department is recruiting for a full-time, Police Communications Dispatcher.  This is a specialized police civilian classification and performs all duties required to effectively dispatch police services including operating police radio communication equipment to communicate with the public and police.  Receives, interprets, and transmits information essential to the delivery of emergency and non-emergency police services.

• Monitors local emergency services radio transmissions; maintains contact and monitors status of field units; monitors the county mutual aid channel.
• Responds to emergency phone lines, including calls to and from fire department, alarm companies, and tow companies.
• Prioritizes needs of difficult callers, including hysterical victims, incoherent persons and suicidal subjects; assesses and evaluates emergency situations.
• Enters calls for service information into the CAD system, including type, location, nature and description of event; enters all field unit transmissions.
• Enters information into automated systems, including temporary warrants, missing persons, property, stolen vehicles, domestic violence restraining orders and firearms; searches various databases and automated systems in response to information requests.
• Performs a variety of clerical duties, including photocopying, completing forms and maintaining records; receives and responds to document requests for warrants and DMV printouts.
• Operates a variety of specialized equipment related to dispatch work.
• Answers front office non-emergency lines after hours.
• Informs on-duty shift Sergeant of street activity and pending calls for service.
• May train and evaluate new employees.
