The Position

The Early Childhood Education Coordinator plans and directs school readiness programs (preschool) by providing technical assistance, mentoring, and training to the staff. The planning of children’s readiness to learn involves culturally responsive, integrated service delivery of child development learning environments to a) enhance children’s cognitive, social, and emotional development and b) promote children’s growth in language, literacy, mathematics, science, social and emotional development, creative arts, physical development, and approaches to learning. The ideal candidate is customer service focused; able to work independently; is flexible, punctual, and highly responsible; has excellent organizational and time management skills and has strong written and verbal communication skills.

Monday - Friday

1:00pm - 5:00pm

2:00pm - 6:00pm

*more hours may become available on a as needed basis, but not to exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year

Requirements:

- Must possess a minimum of 12 Early Childhood Education Units
   (Child Development Principles, Curriculum and Child/Family/Community)

-Must successfully pass TB Test, physical and fingerprinting

Desired Qualifications:

One year or more experience working in a preschool environment.

The City of San Rafael, Child Care Division is accepting applications for Child Care Aide to work in our School-Age Program.  We are looking for people who are available Monday thru Friday from

2:00 – 6:00 pm.  This is a great part-time position for someone who attends school in the morning.  No weekend work required!

This position performs the following essential job duties (including but not limited to):

• Assist Director and Instructors in planning and implementing activities.
• Assist in the supervision of children at the child care center or on outings/trips.
• Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of equipment and materials.
• Assist in the preparation and cleanup of snacks.
• Other related duties as assigned.

• Child guidance methods.
• Developmentally-appropriate practices and curriculum.

• Accept direction from supervisor.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships.
• Work as scheduled.

• Some experience with school age children, preferably 6 months.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Department of Justice and FBI fingerprint clearance
• Prefer possession of a valid California Driver’s License
• Must have a current TB test clearance

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to perform physical activities such as but not limited to lifting or carrying children or heavy items (up to 40 lbs.) unassisted, reaching, bending, standing, or walking. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Energetic, organized, and responsible individuals who enjoy working with school-age children are encouraged to apply. Recreation Leaders will assist in the implementation and planning of a wide variety of arts and crafts, sports, games, special events, and excursions. Candidates will work either for the Ash Street Summer program at Ash Street Park or Camp Newark at the Silliman Center.  Both positions require candidates to work in an outdoor environment.  

Work Schedule: Since this is a summer-only position, it is expected that applicants can work Monday-Friday with limited vacation time (less than one week) during the below program dates:

Salary

Child Care Aide: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour, part time, non-benefited, typically limited to 1,000 hours per year.  

Child Care Associate Teacher: $19.50 - $25.00 per hour, part time, non-benefited, typically limited to 1,000 hours per year.

CHILD CARE AIDE

This position will work directly with a Child Care Site Coordinator or Lead Teacher at varying pre-school or K-6/ K-8 school sites based on program needs. The Child Care Aide is responsible for leading activities and supervising small groups of children in State-funded Title V programs.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assisting staff in implementing youth recreation activities, sports, arts, crafts, and other age-appropriate activities
• Maintaining discipline, site safety and observe the overall physical and emotional well-being of the program participants
• Interacting with parents, participants, school district and city employees in a professional manner
• Attending staff meetings and in-service trainings as required
