Equivalent to completion of an Associate's degree from an accredited college

License and Certificates:

Possession of and ability to maintain a valid California Driver’s License.

Possession of a POST (Peace Officer Standards & Training) written examination certificate with a preferred T-Score of 52 or above and a passing score for the WSTB physical agility examination. Or possession of a National Testing Network Law Enforcement written examination certificate with a preferred score in the 90th percentile and a passing score for the WSTB physical agility examination.

Necessary Special Qualifications:

Free of any felony convictions.

Effective January 1, 2023, peace officers must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law. There are no specific citizenship requirements per Senate Bill 2. California Government Code Section 1031(h) limits employment authorization documents to those consistent with Section 274a.2 of Title 8 of the Code of Federal Regulations. Specific documentation requirements can be found on the I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification form issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Government Code section 1031(g) permits departments to adopt additional and/or higher standards.

Age not less than 21-years-old at time of appointment to the rank of police officer.

Vision in each eye, correctable to at least 20/30.

Must pass a background investigation.

Must meet all Department medical, physical and psychological standards.

The Position:

This is a non-sworn classification structured for incumbents hired for the purpose of becoming a sworn police officer.  Police Officer Trainees are hired into this civilian position for the period prior and during the time they are assigned to a POST-certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy.  Upon successful completion of training at the academy and upon the availability of a Police Officer position, Police Officer Trainees are sworn in and appointed to the classification of Police Officer.  Police Officer Trainee benefits are limited to those of a civilian employee.

About this role
We are seeking responsible, reliable and enthusiastic individuals to score keep for our Adult Softball leagues. Scorekeepers will be responsible for putting out and picking up the bases at the beginning and end of night, turning on and off the field lights, keeping score for each game played and keeping the official game time and other duties as assigned. This is a part time, non-benefited position, up to 30 hours per week and limited to 960 hours in a fiscal year (July-June). You must be available to work Monday-Friday during the hours of 6pm-10:15pm, from early March – mid-November.

This position will be responsible for staffing and managing all Adult Sport games on a field or in a gym, including scorekeepers and communication with the sport official’s association, and managing the adult sports scheduling and score reporting online. This is a part time, non-benefited position, up to 30 hours per week and limited to 960 hours in a fiscal year (July-June). You must be available to work Monday-Friday during the hours of 4:30pm-10:15pm and occasional weekends. This position is year-round.

What You’ll Do

• Greet, acknowledge, and interactive with patrons and sports officials in a friendly and professional manner
• Ensures all game related information are uploaded to website in a timely manner for each game
• Keeps games moving, maintains game rules and manages game conflicts
• Ensures use of sport program supplies follows the amount prearranged by the department budget
• Oversees and managers Adult Sport League games and is present before and after designated scheduled game times
• Assists in tracking payroll for all per diem workers
• If necessary, will cover shifts for scorekeeping or gym attendant when no subs are available
• Back up to the field preparation position
• Manage the gym schedule, staffing and be a back up to rental officers, if necessary
• Takes game photos of all Sport League games
• Provide excellent customer service.

This is a part time, non-benefited position, up to 30 hours per week and limited to 960 hours in a fiscal year (July-June).  You must be available to work Monday-Friday during the hours of 5:30pm-10:15pm and one Saturday or Sunday between the hours of 9am-9pm, year-round.

What You’ll Do

• Acts a liaison to build a positive working relationship with all youth user groups who use the athletic fields in San Mateo.
• Reviews all activities on San Mateo field’s including, youth user group games and practices, adult sports, private rentals and public drop in use.
• Interprets and enforces the field user policy and park policies to the public and sports user groups.
• Monitors park areas by foot to assist the general public and sports groups in the use of the park areas.
• Responds to inquiries and complaints and ensures safe use of the facilities.
• Documents all emergency and first-aid contacts.
• Reports possible safety hazards and/or unsanitary conditions to the Recreation Supervisor.
• Assist in keeping accurate records of forms, inventory and supplies
• Supports City or Department-sponsored events as required.

Position Summary

Under general direction, performs work in connection with a wide variety of engineering projects related to inspections, repairs and upgrades of District bridges, buildings and other structures and facilities. May manage projects involving architectural and engineering personnel engaged in the planning, design and construction phases of District facility projects.  Coordinates and implements engineering methods and policies affecting a wide range of engineering activities involved in facility inspections, repairs and upgrades of District facilities; maintains contacts with architectural and engineering consultants, governmental agencies, general public and contractors in connection with facility engineering matters; reviews engineering calculations, plans, specifications and technical papers. 

Essential Responsibilities

• Prepares and leads the preparation of reports, calculations, design plans, specifications, schedules, cost estimates and other materials related to the planning, design, maintenance repairs and construction phases of District facility projects and refers them to Directing Civil Engineer for final approval
• Prepares and refers to the District Engineer or designee, contract documents and agreements for the planning, design and construction phases of District facility projects 
• Oversees work of and manages contracts with professional architectural and engineering consultants, contractors, utility companies, property owners 
• Confers with other departments and regulatory agencies relative to engineering District facility projects and work programs to ensure proper coordination of all related activities and responsibilities
• Makes field trips and inspections to resolve differences of opinion between engineers and contractors' representatives as they relate to facility repairs and improvements
• Conducts and attends conferences and meetings in connection with planning and design of improvement and construction projects
• Makes oral presentations
• Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job
• Ensures that employees under his or her supervision follow established safe work practices and obey all safety rules
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service
• Performs additional related duties as assigned
• Regular and reliable performance and attendance is required
