The Summer Internship Program will run for 12 weeks from June 9 to August 29, 2025. The Sheriff’s Office is searching for up to 20 Summer Interns to perform a variety of administrative functions throughout the following divisions of our office:

Additionally, applicants must meet the following education requirements to qualify:

Group Supervisor I ($34.61/hr-$43.24/hr) - Completion of at least 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university. An emphasis in sociology, psychology, corrections, criminal justice, counseling or a closely related social or behavioral science is preferred.

 

Group Supervisor II ($39.04/hr-$48.83/hr) - Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. A degree in sociology, psychology, corrections, criminal justice, counseling or a closely related social or behavioral science is preferred.

 

Selected candidates must be available to work flexible shifts, including graveyards, day shift, swing shift, weekends and holidays at any of the Probation Department locations. Selected candidates must also successfully pass a background investigation, including fingerprints, medical examination, psychological evaluation, a truth verification test and be free from any physical, emotional or mental condition which might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a Peace Officer. Felony and misdemeanors convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Group Supervisors hired into permanent positions must pass PC 832 peace officer training and complete a 160 hour STC training course within one year of appointment.

There are currently various vacancies in the Probation Department. Depending on qualifications, the vacancy may be filled at the Group Supervisor I or Group Supervisor II level.

 

Examples Of Duties

Group Supervisors are responsible for:

• Supervising daily activities of youth in confinement.
• Observing and supervising unstable youth.
• Enforcing security and safety measures including searches of youth and their living quarters for contraband.
• May perform housekeeping tasks.
• Providing orientation for newly detained youth.
• Explaining and enforcing rules and regulations.
• Providing transportation for youth from the County's detention facilities to other facilities and medical offices.
• Supervising daily activities such as meals, showers, housekeeping, laundry, yard work, recreation, vocational work crews, and visitation.
• Providing individual and group counseling.
• Leading group discussions and facilitating rehabilitation programs.
• Maintaining daily records of observations, incidents and events.
• Logging information, writing reports and summaries of behavior and maintaining records and files.
• Physically restraining assaultive youth and de-escalating violent behavior.
• Maintaining a safe environment for the youth and staff.
• Being a positive role model and authority figure.
• Participate in staff conferences.

 

Qualifications

Group Supervisor I: Completion of at least 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university. An emphasis in sociology, psychology, corrections, criminal justice, counseling or a closely related social or behavioral science is preferred.

 

Group Supervisor II: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. A degree in sociology, psychology, corrections, criminal justice, counseling or a closely related social or behavioral science is preferred.

 

Licensure/Certification:

• Possession of a class C California driver license or equivalent.

About The Position

Each day, Deputy Probation Officers (DPOs) have the opportunity to contribute to community safety by actively engaging with at-risk youth and adults. Our department is firmly dedicated to implementing the most effective evidence-based, equitable, and trauma-informed practices to uplift and empower the individuals under our supervision. DPOs work in close cooperation with the County's criminal justice system and partner with Community Based Organizations to offer guidance and support to the population we serve.

 

Deputy Probation Officer II is the journey level class of this series. Under direction, incumbents independently perform a variety of complex assignments primarily in the areas of intake, investigation, or supervision. This class is distinguished from Deputy Probation Officer III in that the latter has acquired greater work experience and technical competence and handles the exceptionally difficult cases requiring a high level of intensive probation casework. The III level may also mentor or train other staff in areas in which they possess expertise, provide lead direction or substitute for the supervisor on a short-term basis.

 

Successful candidates must have two years of full-time (2080 hours) experience working in a California County Probation Department as a Deputy Probation Officer AND have successfully completed a California POST OR STC-certified P.C. 832 Arrest and Control course AND a STC-certified Probation Officer Core course to qualify.

 

IMPORTANT: Individuals who are not currently employed full-time as a Deputy Probation Officer but have a minimum of two years of full-time experience in a California County Probation Department should not have a separation date greater than six months from the date of application.

 

To qualify for this position, you must possess all of the following:

• Two years of full-time (2080 hours) experience working in a California County Probation Department as a Deputy Probation Officer.

As a Deputy Probation Officer, you will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

• Set up and recommend payment schedules for restitution and fines; evaluate restitution claims submitted by victims and assess the probationer's ability to pay.

The City of Redwood City Invites Applications for Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Director.

Reporting to the City Manager, the Director oversees a $26.83 million FY 2024-25 Department budget and 71.96 full-time equivalent employees. San Mateo County Health's Aging and Adult Services Division is seeking qualified individuals for the unclassified position of In-Home Supportive Services Social Worker II/III. Social Workers provide a wide variety of welfare services in such areas as information and referral, protective services, out-of-home services, health related services, chore services, and other welfare services within the Health and the Human Services Agency.

 

The current unclassified vacancy is in the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Program that provides in-home care for persons who cannot safely remain in their own home without such assistance. The recipients of IHSS are aged, blind and/or disabled and eligible for Medi-Cal. Disabled and/or blind minor children may also be eligible for IHSS. The Social Worker will make a home visit to determine eligibility for the program and to conduct an assessment to determine a range of service hours for particular tasks. The IHSS recipient or guardian is the IHSS employer and is responsible for hiring and supervising a provider for the care they receive. The Social Worker will travel throughout the County to conduct home visits, attend meetings and perform other duties of the position. The Social Worker will work in the San Mateo, CA Aging and Adult Services Office.

 

This IHSS Social Worker will conduct intake and/or on-going activities for IHSS recipients. Some of those activities include:

• Conduct initial IHSS assessments using a detailed State assessment tool.
• Complete necessary documents, paperwork, and work within different information technology systems.
• Conduct annual reassessments.
• Educate, support, and perform administrative duties for IHSS recipients and care providers to understand/comply with program regulations.
• Provide education, outreach, and community resources information.
• Participate in quality improvement efforts.
• Collaborate with quality assurance and program integrity to ensure proper adherence to regulations.
• Prepare for and attend Fair Hearings.
• Engage in interdisciplinary team meetings or other activities to support San Mateo County's vision for integrated services.

Social Workers provide highly skilled, intensive casework services to individuals and their families and provide casework consultation within the department and to outside agencies. Incumbents of positions at this level work with minimal supervision and are expected to have acquired the high degree of assessment skills required to perform care coordination and referral tasks in complex casework areas. Lead supervisory responsibilities may be assigned as circumstances dictate.

 

This is an unclassified position. Unclassified positions are at-will for a limited duration, typically associated with grant or other special funding. These positions are not covered by San Mateo County Civil Service Rules; and there is no formal probation period. The following are the same for classified and unclassified positions: salary, increases and other forms of compensation; accrual of sick leave, vacation, overtime, holiday and leaves of absence; health, dental, vision, long and short term disability, and retirement.

San Mateo County Health's Public Health Policy & Planning (PHPP) Division has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Veterinarian to work in Animal Control and Licensing as a member of the team.
 
The current vacancy is extra help part time 20-hours per week in the Public Health, Policy and Planning Division. The position is stationed in San Mateo, CA, but will travel/drive throughout the County to perform duties of the position.
 
Scheduling is flexible. Daily reporting hours and days of the week may vary according to the needs of the department. Evening and weekend work may be required based on the needs of the organization. This position is a hybrid of remote work as well as field-based at clinics.
 
The Veterinary Wellness Program provides veterinary services to the pets of the unhoused, those in transitional housing, and very low-income San Mateo County residents who are receiving services from San Mateo County. This position works with San Mateo County Health and cross collaborates with other programs within the County. Technical expertise, as well as knowledge of veterinary public health practices, are preferred.
 
San Mateo County is unique in that most of our homeless shelters allow residents to bring their pets with them, not just an emotional support or service animal. One of the barriers for homeless people to get into a shelter with their pets is that their pet must be current on their vaccinations. Within 10 days of a new resident moving into a shelter with a pet, the County veterinarian will meet with the owner and their pet to provide a general exam, the necessary vaccinations and flea control. This position will visit various sites throughout the County on a regular basis, providing vaccines, flea control, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and general exams. In addition, the Veterinarian will travel to various homeless encampments to provide these services and to offer and encourage spaying and neutering of the pets.
 
When pets need additional care, this position will coordinate with local veterinary clinics we contract with for services. These contracts allow us to provide spay and neuter services, dental services, and many other procedures that the pet owner would not otherwise be able to afford. These vital veterinary services keep pets from being relinquished to animal shelters and provides peace of mind for the pet owner. In addition, our veterinary program partners with our Street Medicine Program to provide health care services to the pet owners, which advances San Mateo County’s One Health Concept.
 
This Veterinarian position will be providing technical/subject matter expertise on issues relating to the spread of zoonotic, epizootic, and exotic diseases, as well as consulting on cases of rabies in domestic and wild animals. The position will also act as a liaison between the veterinary community, Veterinary Public Health, California Department of Public Health, and residents of the County.
 
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide lead direction to staff responsible for following prescribed treatment and maintaining treatment records for animals treated.
• Ensure that the highest level of service and care are provided and that changes in animals’ conditions are recorded and properly addressed.
• Examine and evaluate animals, and perform veterinary medical treatments, including vaccinations and preventative treatment as appropriate. 
• Coordinate with local veterinarians and clinic/shelter professionals to arrange spay and neuter surgeries and medical procedures.
• Arrange for care at a contracted veterinary hospital for severely injured, sick or diseased animals and provides full orders for care.
• Establishes and maintains medical records and drug use logs to standards of veterinary practices.
• Ensure that records are in order and complete and prepare written reports as needed; ensures that all State and Federal laws, regulations, accepted standards, are adhered to. 
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of shelter animal health protocols, surgical procedures, and companion animal health issues.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with the staff, community, local veterinarians, State Veterinarian. 
• Assist in the monitoring of inventory and ordering of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals.
• Serve as technical/subject matter expert to answer questions from the County Health Officer, medical community and the general public regarding issues related to/involving animals—including but not limited to researching, recommending, implementing and/or maintaining measures to prevent the spread of zoonotic diseases, epizootic diseases, exotic diseases and disease outbreaks. 
• Serve as a consultant in suspect cases of rabies in domestic and wild animals as well as complex issues deriving from animal bites.
• Review pertinent legislation, regulations, and policies to provide recommendations, especially with regards to vaccination of domestic animals, rabies vaccine exemptions, quarantine/euthanasia of animals exposed to rabies.
• Disseminate relevant information to the local veterinary community as well as to residents of the county. 
• Assist with emergencies and disaster services.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

 
Ideal candidate will possess:
•       Experience working one – two years as a Veterinarian.

• Experience in diagnosing and treating disease, illness, and injuries of dogs, cats, rabbits, and other animals. 
• Ability to test animals for disease and administer vaccines.
• Ability to evaluate condition and coordinate maintenance of equipment and supplies.
• Ability to help ensure the safe storage, access, and use of medications.
• Ability to develop and provide guidance on sanitary protocols, feeding, preventative medicine, and general care to promote the health of all animals.
• Ability to research and prepare medical reports for guidance of management upon request.
• Ability to write grant proposals for funding.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and residents of the community.
• Attend meetings and other meetings as requested or required.
• Obtain continuing education as required and be committed to staying up-to-date technically with industry best practices and applying learned knowledge.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with partner and contract providers.

This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and therefore work hours may vary from week to week. Extra help employees shall not exceed 1,040 hours of work per fiscal year. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.

How to qualify

Deputy Probation Officer II ($48.09/hr-$60.07/hr) - Two years of experience performing duties comparable to those of an entry level Deputy Probation Officer I in San Mateo County.

There are currently various vacancies in the Probation department. Depending on qualifications, the vacancy may be filled at the Deputy Probation Officer I or Deputy Probation Officer II level.

Selected candidates must be available to work flexible shifts, including graveyards, day shift, swing shift, weekends and holidays at any of the Probation Department locations. The Manager, Track & Structures reports to the Deputy Director of Infrastructure Engineering and is responsible for overseeing railroad track and structures engineering support for the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain)

Essential Functions & Duties:

Essential Functions:

• Acts as agency lead on matters related to track and structures.
• Oversee the track and structures engineering tasks for design/construction of Caltrain Capital and SOGR projects and provide technical support for planning on grade separation projects.
• Ensure the capital and maintenance projects comply with the contract agreement and implement the approved design for compliance with JPB standards and specifications. 
• Lead the advanced technical reviews of projects to assess constructability, examine design details, perform quantity audit, and recommend construction sequencing.
• Establish effective relationships and liaise with Caltrain operation contractors, consultants, internal departments, and other agencies (CPUC, FRA, UPRR, etc.) on railroad track and structures related to influence design and project development.
• Supervise staff.  Hire, mentor and take appropriate corrective and/or disciplinary action.  Ensure EEO policies and procedures are followed. Participate in selection of staff. Coordinate staff training and professional development. Establish performance objectives. Monitor and evaluate employee performance.

Examples of Essential Duties: 

• Plan, develop and implement the group’s work plan, budget, goals, and objectives to be consistent with the Engineering Department’s goals.
• Manage the design review of project documentation such as drawings, basis of design, specifications, technical reports, and calculations for compliance with Caltrain Standards and for cost effectiveness of the design. 
• Lead development of potential solutions to the design/construction team and presents for design optimization, risk management challenges, and constructability improvements.
• Assist with Maintenance Department to develop the annual and long-term railroad track engineering and maintenance plans, coordinate these plans with capital projects and support to implement the plans.
• Review and provide technical input for capital and maintenance projects for compliance and cost effectiveness of the design.
• Perform QA reviews of RFIs and submittals as well as participate in change order review and final inspections to construction. 
• Ensure track and structures comply with all return-to-service requirements following all construction activities.
• Review and evaluate project specific designs and provide technical recommendations to design variance approval process.
• Responsible for Caltrain Bridge Management Program.
• Responsible for updates to Caltrain Engineering Standards.
• Train, motivate and monitor staff activities, provide direction, and to identify and resolve the problems.
• Provide 24/7 on-call construction and maintenance support.

The County of San Mateo's Information Services Department seeks an IS Systems Specialist III to serve in the Security Division. Under general supervision, the individual in this position performs the most complex and varied technical tasks related to the configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and monitoring of the County's security infrastructure.
