Effective January 1, 2023, peace officers must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law. There are no specific citizenship requirements per Senate Bill 2. California Government Code Section 1031(h) limits employment authorization documents to those consistent with Section 274a.2 of Title 8 of the Code of Federal Regulations. Specific documentation requirements can be found on the I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification form issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Government Code section 1031(g) permits departments to adopt additional and/or higher standards.

The Position:

This is a non-sworn classification structured for incumbents hired for the purpose of becoming a sworn police officer.  Police Officer Trainees are hired into this civilian position for the period prior and during the time they are assigned to a POST-certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy.  Upon successful completion of training at the academy and upon the availability of a Police Officer position, Police Officer Trainees are sworn in and appointed to the classification of Police Officer.  Police Officer Trainee benefits are limited to those of a civilian employee.

PELLETB: Applicants can complete the PELLETB exam at the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium. The areas covered by the test include spelling, vocabulary, clarity, reading and CLOZE (use contextual clues to complete a passage that contains missing words). THE POSITION

Under general supervision of a Police Sergeant, the Reserve Police Officer is a sworn position assigned to field operations to patrol for the prevention and detection of crime and enforcement of laws and regulations within the philosophy of community oriented policing.  Incumbents are normally expected to solve most work problems independently and to refer to supervisory personnel only those matters which involve policy decisions, technical questions and unusual problems at the entry level and make recommendations at the advanced level.

The San Bruno Police Department

• Must currently be employed as a full time paid, sworn police officer for at least two years, or have been employed for at least 24 months as a full time paid sworn police officer in a civilian governmental jurisdiction prior to application; or  

• Possession of a valid California P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate or equivalent as approved by P.O.S.T. 

• Must have successfully completed a current California P.O.S.T. Basic Training Police Academy or equivalency.

THE POSITION:

This can be a stressful and demanding job located within the Police Department requiring shift work, weekend and holiday duty.  Although hours vary, this is an on-call, as-needed position that is paid hourly.  Using RIMS (Records Information Management System), per diem dispatchers dispatch police and transfer calls to Fire & EMS under emergency conditions; receive residential alarm calls and take calls of an emergency and non-emergency nature from citizens; greets public and assists at the front counter.  Dispatchers must remain calm and tactful under trying conditions, remembering detailed information, and thinking clearly while performing several tasks at once.

To maintain familiarity with the Atherton Police Dispatch Center, we can offer guaranteed 16 hours of shifts spread over a few days per month. You'll provide break relief while also getting a chance to work with another dispatcher. Since we may not always have many shifts available, expectations would be that you would also assist with open shifts/sick calls as needed and not just rely on the 16 hours.

The City of San José, Office of the City Attorney is seeking an attorney with California municipal law and government experience, or transferable legal skills and a commitment to public service.

As an attorney in our Office, you will serve as trusted counsel to the Mayor and City Council, City Manager, administrative departments, and boards and commissions. Proof of vaccination means that employees are required to be “up-to-date” with regards to the COVID-19 vaccine. Consistent with the Santa Clara County Public Health Order issued on December 28, 2021, "up-to-date" means that an employee is not only "fully vaccinated," but has also obtained any booster doses of a COVID-19 vaccination for which they are eligible, within 15 days of first becoming eligible.
