The Department of Public Works is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects for a wide variety of City facilities and infrastructure, maintaining City facilities and fleet assets, facilitating and regulating development activities, and providing animal care and services.

San Jose Animal Care Services, a division in the Public Works Department is currently seeking to fill four (4) full-time Animal Care Attendant vacancies. Both day and night shifts are available.

Animal Care Attendants report to the Shelter Manager of Animal Care and Services and are primarily responsible for feeding, caring for, and moving shelter animals; euthanizing animals; and cleaning and disinfecting kennels and cages. Other duties may include receiving animals brought to the shelter by Animal Control Officers or the public; assisting the public in claiming impounded animals or in adoptions; completing and maintaining animal records; responding to questions regarding age, breed characteristics and treatment of animals; and explaining and interpreting animal control laws, ordinances, regulations, procedures, and policies to the public.

Animal Care Attendants are required to work weekends, holidays, nights, rotating shifts, and respond to emergency animal services assignments during off-duty hours.

Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 100 pounds while handling animals and equipment. Employees may work outside and be exposed to inclement weather, may be exposed to blood borne pathogens while using hypodermic needles on animals, may be exposed to animal scratches and bites, and may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, fumes, odors, gases, chemicals, pollens, and other airborne irritants.

This position will undergo training (4-6 weeks) during normal business hours and will be scheduled to work 5 days a week in either a daytime shift OR overnight shift ( e.g . 9:00 pm to 5:30 a m) after training has been completed. This position will be require d to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and respond to emergency animal services assignments.

Salary range s for this classification are:

Animal Care Attendant I : The hourly range for Animal Care Attendant I is $2 5.44 - $ 30.94 approximately .

This range i ncludes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be de termined b y the final candidates' qualifications and experience.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for a full-time Senior Civil Engineer or Project Manager (depending on qualifications and experience) for the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. The Senior Civil Engineer or Project Manager will work under the direction of the City Engineer and/or the Public Works Director and will lead the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Section. This supervisory position will lead a team of engineers and technicians in the implementation of the City’s CIP, including the planning, design, construction, and inspection of a variety of projects.  Responsibilities include supervising employees, directing complex professional-level field and office engineering assignments, developing strategies and schedules for implementing the CIP, assisting with CIP budgeting, and playing a significant role in making a difference in the community!

Both the Senior Civil Engineer and Project Manager classifications are exempt, mid-management level positions. The Project Manager classification is distinguished from the Senior Civil Engineer in that a professional engineer license is not required.

Public Works CIP projects involve planning, design, coordination with end users, bid package preparation, and construction management.  Therefore, exceptional organizational and project management skills are imperative to achieve department and City goals. Additionally, successful performance requires the ability to independently implement programs, projects, and policies in conformance with generally accepted standards, including possessing thorough knowledge of contract administration, project management principles and supervisory practices.

The Senior Civil Engineer or Project Manager will manage assigned staff and consultants and assist with budgeting tasks within the Engineering Division. Furthermore, the Senior Civil Engineer/ Project Manager will provide and participate in critical team leadership to ensure that all engineering services, goals, projects, and initiatives meet the high-performance standards of the Department and City.

The Department: 
 The Assistant City Clerk’s Office/City Manager’s Office is recruiting to fill a Deputy City Clerk. The Assistant City Clerk’s Office is organized under the City Clerk’s Office.  The Office of the Assistant City Clerk processes the agendas for and attends all meetings of the Council and Authorities Concurrent and Stadium Authority meetings, maintains accurate and up-to-date records of the proceedings of those meetings and makes those records open for public inspection. The Office of the Assistant City Clerk processes and maintains copies of City contracts, ordinances, resolutions and other official documents. The Office of the Assistant City Clerk manages and compiles City records in accordance with the Records Retention Schedule and in response to Public Records Act requests. The Office of the Assistant City Clerk administers campaign and disclosure laws, the Campaign Finance Ordinance, Regulation of Lobbying Activities program and the Calendars of Certain City Officials program. The Office of the Assistant City Clerk also administers oaths of affirmation pertaining to the affairs and business of the City and certifies copies of official records.
 
 The Position: 
 The Deputy City Clerk will report to the Assistant City Clerk and perform highly complex administrative and analytical work. This position will assist the Assistant City Clerk in the administration of the City Clerk's Office. The incumbent will assist in developing, implementing and coordinating projects, programs and procedures. This position is responsible for assisting with Public Record Act (PRA) requests and this position will also support projects and programs within the City Manager’s Office. Incumbents in this position will have considerable independence in making judgment related to their assignments and must handle situations with great sensitivity, tact and diplomacy. May supervise or act as lead worker to staff involved in management activities.  
 
As a member of the City's unclassified service, this is an "at-will" position. The incumbent serves at the discretion of the City Manager.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any education or experience equivalent to:

• An Associate of Arts degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or closely related field; and
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible supervisory or lead administrative/management experience in a City Clerk's Office. 

• A Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or possession of a Certified Municipal Clerk certification or required within two (2) years of hire.

Hours: Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30). Varying shifts are available including Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Under general supervision, individuals assigned to this classification assist the organization to develop and design reports, websites, social media collateral and other marketing and presentation materials. This classification focuses on the development of written and graphic representation for division or department materials. Individuals in this classification are primarily focused on enhancing the Division’s social media presence, developing all written material, performing administrative tasks, attending fairs and events to promote Recreation Services programs; and perform/ related work as required.

This position is characterized by developing new and innovative marketing collateral with limited structure or routine work. Work assignments are performed in collaboration with various divisions and levels of staff, independently, with responsibility for following through on development. Contacts are regularly made both internally and externally at all levels of the organization involving tact, discretion, good listening and customer service skills. The position requires creative ability, knowledge of how to generate graphics using The Adobe Suite, Canva, Microsoft Publisher, Word and Excel and the ability to exercise a reasonable degree of independent judgment. This classification assists with development and implementation of standards for consistency in materials, written and posted on the internet. Additionally, the position requires good written communication skills, public relations, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills and abilities. The Marketing Associate receives direction from program supervisors and management staff.

Essential Job Functions

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position is required to work on the Community Center campus and may not work from home. Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination when using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision when reading and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. The need to lift, push and pull files, paper and documents weighing up to 25 pounds also is required. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, communications, graphic arts or a closely related field; AND
• One year of related work experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Knowledge of:
