The Silliman Family Aquatic Center Lifeguard Academy is for those seeking employment with the City of Newark. This program is a beginner-level course that covers Lifeguard Training, Water Park Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Swim Lesson Instruction, and center-specific training. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures.

**No certifications or previous experience is required! Candidates must be comfortable in the water. Once you successfully pass your lifeguard certification, you’ll get a $1.00 raise to make $19/hour as a lifeguard.**

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Lifeguards for our fantastic swim lessons and aquatic programs at the Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working with children and wish to make a difference! Those that are successful in the application review will be invited to attend an in-person interview. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures.

• Applicants should be able to work at least 12-20 hours September through April, including weekends and holidays, with mandatory trainings.

• Must be flexible regarding scheduling as it is based on business demands to include some weekend and holiday availability. We are flexible around school schedules.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under direct supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, Lifeguards will ensure the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies
• Maintaining constant surveillance of patrons in the facility
• Acting immediately and appropriately to ensure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency/Providing emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
• Performing various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility
• Having a thorough knowledge of rescue techniques

The City of San José, Office of the City Attorney is seeking an attorney with California municipal law and government experience, or transferable legal skills and a commitment to public service.

As an attorney in our Office, you will serve as trusted counsel to the Mayor and City Council, City Manager, administrative departments, and boards and commissions. You may be called upon to advise as the general counsel to departments regarding their respective duties, powers, functions and obligations in areas including public works, city-wide procurements, employment, land use planning, environmental services, public safety, utilities and housing. The Budget Analyst position in the City Manager’s Office is responsible for operating and/or capital budgetary analysis assignments for a City Service Area (CSA) and several City departments, including assisting their assigned CSA/departments in the development of their operating/capital budgets; analysis of revenue and expenditure projections; coordination and presentation of budget information to the City Manager as appropriate; preparation of the City's annual Operating and/or Capital Budgets, Annual Report, Mid-Year Budget Review, and Fees and Charges Report; review of budget-related departmental requests; collaboration with departments to resolve budgetary issues; review of City Council memoranda for budget implications and appropriate budget language, if necessary; conducting research on budget and policy-related matters; and special projects as assigned. During critical times of the year this position will be expected to work overtime, both weeknights and weekends, for the preparation and release of several key budget documents.

The Position

The Community Services Department plays a key role in enhancing the community and ensuring the citizens of Fremont receive excellent customer service through the management of recreation facilities, quality recreation and environmental programs, park planning and the maintenance of City parks, trees, and medians. The Park Ranger/Naturalist will provide information and assistance to the public, as well as enforce laws, rules, regulations, and the Fremont Municipal Code. Additionally, the incumbent will conduct environmental education programs and assist with implementing the initiatives of the Homeless Task Force.

Examples of Duties

- Work in prescribed uniform and is responsible for general patrol and supervision of Central Park, Lake Elizabeth, recreation facilities and parks throughout Fremont.
- Perform as a first responder in the park and facilities and activate emergency response as needed.
- Assist with the development and delivery of environmental education/interpretative programs.
- Initiate and maintain community based relationships with schools and other local organizations in support of interpretive programs and park projects.
- Assist with developing, planning, and delivering special events with an interpretive focus such as Earth Day.
- Supervise and train part-time park staff and volunteers as needed.
- Complete minor maintenance work on vehicles, equipment and facilities.
- Provide assistance and acts as a liaison to the public, responding to questions concerning park and recreation facilities, programs, policies, and rules and regulations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and enforces the Fremont Municipal Code or other rules, regulations and ordinances pertaining to park operations within the City, including the issuance of citations.
- Investigate, collect evidence, statements and prepare reports in response to complaints, crime, injury accidents, and other park incidents.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

The City Manager’s Office of Administration, Policy, and Intergovernmental Relations, under the direction of the Director, coordinates internal budgets and hiring, citywide public policy, and legislative affairs. It provides the City’s Leaders, Administrators, Directors, and staff with support, coordination, research, and strategic analysis of the city’s critical needs, programs, policies, and services.

About the Position
The Assistant to the City Manager is a key member of the Office of Administration, Policy, and Intergovernmental Relations (API).  The position will assist the Director by supporting organizational capacity-building around policy development and data-driven decision making, and aligning program and policy priorities internally and externally. The position enhances the City Manager’s Office internal planning and management, and supports streamlining inter-departmental coordination for programs, policies, and initiatives. The position is responsible for facilitation and collaboration across Departments to advance the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services that support the City Manager’s Enterprise Priorities, City Council Committees, and other services that resolve critical issues. This position assists both internal and external stakeholders to achieve City goals.
