The City of Sebastopol is seeking an engaging, inclusive, and talented leader who is well-versed in current and long-range planning, affordable housing, and development activities, including economic development. The Community Development Director oversees all functions and activities of the Community Development Department.  The current focus is on planning and economic development activities.  In the future, the position's duties may also include oversight of the City's building, inspection, and code enforcement functions. 

This position coordinates Community Development Department activities with other City departments, officials, contractors, consultants, outside agencies, and the public to ensure cohesive and efficient development and planning processes. The Community Development Director reflects a demonstrative cultural competency in collaborating with all community members regardless of cultural differences or circumstances including race, ethnicity, religion, language, gender identity, age, marital and familial status, sexual orientation, diverse physical and learning abilities, socioeconomic status, and other identities. This position provides highly responsible and complex professional consult to the City Manager to advance the City's planning, housing, economic development, and building and development goals and objectives and may serve as the City Manager or Assistant City Manager in either manager’s absence or as assigned. 

This is an “at will” classification serving at the pleasure of and receiving administrative direction from the City Manager. This role's duties allow for a broad scope of independent decision-making within legal, policy, and regulatory guidelines. It involves exercising general direction and supervision over professional, technical, and administrative support staff.

We are seeking a customer service-oriented individual with the competence and experience to address challenges with confidence and professionalism. The Plan Check Assistant performs a range of duties in reviewing and checking building construction plans (residential, commercial, and industrial) for compliance with all applicable State and City codes.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Review construction plans for additions, alterations, repairs, and other projects to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and ordinances
• Respond to inquiries from, and provide information to architects, engineers, contractors, building designers, owners, and the general public regarding project status, plan checking, and other code code-related issues
• Provide assistance at the public service counter (over-the-counter plan checking, code questions, and permit issuance)
• Perform routine engineering analysis and calculations
• Approve over-the-counter plan revisions to issued permits

The position will coordinate volunteer assignments and use various tools to develop, evaluate, and promote Library volunteer opportunities.

The Volunteer Coordinator is also responsible for coordinating and leading the library's volunteer recruitment and recognition efforts throughout the year, as well as overseeing the volunteer screening process, including scheduling, and conducting LiveScan background checks.

In addition, the Volunteer Coordinator will serve as a liaison for the San Jose Public Library Foundation , who frequently works with corporate donors to develop group volunteering opportunities at SJPL.

PARKING ENFORCEMENT OFFICER/COMMUNITY SERVICES OFFICER

The Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO) performs a variety of law enforcement support duties with the majority of responsibilities involving enforcement of parking rules and regulations in an assigned area while driving a parking enforcement scooter or car or walking on foot. Duties include  reporting defective street signs, pavement markings and parking meters; providing information to the public concerning city geography, location of buildings, public transit stations and stops, and city functions and offices, impounding and providing for the storage of vehicles as necessary, responding to low priority city ordinance violations, assisting with simple evidence collection as needed, assisting with report taking as necessary, and performing related work as required to assist the patrol staff.   

The PEO will use a computer to make entries, update and make corrections to information and keep a variety of detailed logs and files, while also using a variety of law enforcement communication equipment.  In addition to issuing warnings and citations, the PEO may testify in court regarding citations issued and other events.  These duties will be performed under general supervision and when assigned, working with other staff. The majority of the workday will be spent on the field (i.e., outside) in various weather conditions.

A typical schedule is four 10-hour days per week including weekends, nights, and holidays.  The PEO is a physically demanding position as stooping, lifting, kneeling and reaching overhead and forward is required daily.

The Community Development Department of the City of Dixon has been authorized to fill a full-time position of Associate Planner.  This classification performs a variety of highly complex professional work in current planning, housing, advance planning, and environmental planning including research and analysis, report writing, plan review; permit coordination, managing complex projects, data collection and analysis, information dissemination; assists with management of consultant contracts and work programs as assigned and performs field inspection.

Future Salary COLA:  4% increase (eff July 2024)

This is in the professional planning series and competent to independently perform the full scope of duties required, with minimal supervision from the Community Development Director or designee. Supervision received is characterized by general supervisory direction and control intended to define objectives and problems.  Control over work methods is general, rather than detailed in nature.  Supervision given will involve training and providing lead direction to professional, technical and clerical staff.

This classification is distinguished from that of Assistant Planner by the greater complexity and political sensitivity of the assignments received, higher level of experience and knowledge and greater independence.

Exam Process: A limited number of candidates whose applications indicate that they, among those competing, are better qualified in terms of related education, training and experience will be invited to participate in a written exam and an interview process (weighted 100%). The most qualified candidates from this process will be placed on an employment eligibility list. The City of Berkeley invites applications for the position of Housing Inspector II (Certified)! In this role, you will perform skilled inspection work with City residential housing inspection programs. You will independently perform the full scope of work in the investigation, reporting and follow-up of housing deficiencies to gain compliance with housing, building, zoning, fire, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and related codes and regulations.

Assignments are varied and generally require close interaction with the public, providing information and interpretation of applicable ordinances, codes and regulations. We'll expect you to exercise considerable independence and discretion in conducting inspections, resolving complaints and enforcing inspection results.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and at least two years of full-time experience equivalent to Housing Inspector or Building Inspector or Code Enforcement Inspector for a public agency. 

Must possess:

• An International Code Council (ICC) OR California (CA) certification in Residential Building or Housing Inspection or in Code Enforcement; and
• ICC or CA Residential or Commercial Electrical Inspector certification and ICC or CA Residential or Commercial Plumbing Inspector certification, or equivalent ICC or CA Legacy Certification for either Combination Inspector or Combination Dwelling Inspector.

Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record.

In addition to the qualifications above, the ideal candidate will have effective and courteous communication skills in order to discuss housing violations, violation remedy and necessary inspections and fees and participate in depositions and court hearings as requested. The ideal candidate can support a work environment that highlights efficiency and team collaboration in a professional and friendly atmosphere for the inspectors and administrative staff.

PAL (Police Activities League) Program Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

The Position: PAL Program Attendants work with Suisun City’s PAL Program and with area teenagers ages 13-19 to implement educational and recreational activities: tutoring, sports, games, mini-excursions, competitions, contests, seminars, and special events, and provide general support to the program’s Recreation Supervisor. We are seeking an innovative and proactive Building Official with a positive, forward-thinking perspective. The Building Official will manage all building division functions (building permit issuance, plan check, and building inspections). The position reports to the Community Development Director. The Building Official will assist in integrating the City’s vision, goals, and people strategy with the business strategy of the Community Development Department; managing, planning, and organizing Community Development services, programs, and operations; developing and implementing policy; crafting and accomplishing department and City objectives, goals, and performance metrics within guidelines established by the City Council and City Manager. The Building Official must exercise a high degree of judgment and discretion along with political acumen and an understanding of the needs of the community.
