MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is completion of 60 college semester units. Previous volunteer or paid experience in a law enforcement support area is desirable.
 
Other requirements include:

• Must be free from any disqualifications for employment, including felony convictions.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.
• Must be 21 years of age or older at time of appointment.
• Must be fingerprinted for purposes of search of local, state, and national fingerprint files to disclose a criminal record.
• Must be of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background investigation.
• Must be a high school graduate, pass the General Education Development Test or other high school equivalency test approved by the State Department of Education that indicates high school graduation level, pass the California High School Proficiency Examination, or have attained a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited college or university.
• Must be found to be free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition, including bias against race or ethnicity, gender, nationality, religion, disability, or sexual orientation, that might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a peace officer.
• Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. 
• Must be able to meet physical, psychological and background standards. 
• Must be willing to work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts. 
• Must be able to obtain required POST certification and maintain firearms qualification.

If you are unable to attend the City of Berkeley exam dates, you may register and take your exams with The Academy. The Academy charges a non-refundable materials fee of $10 for the written exam, $25 for the practice PAT, and $100 for the official PAT. After taking the exams and receiving passing scores, please attach your scores to your application.

POST will not authorize you to take the exam within 30 calendar days of having taken your last POST written exam. Please refer to the POST website for additional information.

Applicants may waive the written exam only by submitting a California POST Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) T-score of 48 points or higher. We will accept California POST T-scores from other agencies provided the test was taken no more than one year prior to the date of application. Applicants must submit, on agency letterhead, a letter that states that the individual has taken the California PELLETB written exam. The letter must contain the total T-score and the date of the test. For information on where the PELLETB test is offered, please visit www.theacademy.ca.gov/tests.

Applicants may waive the performance exam only by submitting a California POST physical agility certificate, known as the Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB), with a score of 325 or higher.  The 1.5-mile run is not a requirement.  The test should not be dated no more than one year prior to the date of application.

Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. Summary Description

Under the administrative direction of the Public Works Director, assists in planning, directing, and organizing the activities and operations of the Water, Wastewater, Streets, Parks, Facilities and Fleet Divisions of the Public Works Department. Specifically responsible for providing leadership, management and administration of highly complex technical, financial, statistical and analytical work of the Department. The incumbent may assist the Director in public activities or meetings and oversees coordination of other services areas as directed.  Provides general supervision to subordinate level professional, technical, maintenance, recreation, and clerical staff.  Performs other job-related work as required.

Representative Duties

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1. Provides direct technical and administrative assistance to the Director of Public Works concerning the operations of the Public Works Department.
2. Plan, organize, and direct assigned divisional activities, including planning, directing, supervising, and coordinating operations and maintenance activities of assigned division(s), which may include water production, treatment and distribution, construction, operation, maintenance, and repair; wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal; maintenance of the City’s streets and storm drain systems; and parks, facilities and fleet operations and maintenance.
3. Assist and participate in the development and implementation of department goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs; recommend and administer policies and procedures.
4. Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; recommend, within departmental policy, appropriate service, and staffing levels.
5. Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for assigned staff; assign work activities, projects, and programs; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems.
6. Select, train, motivate, mentor, counsel, coach and evaluate assigned personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
7. Builds and maintains respectful relationships, positive working relationships with staff, supervisors, outside agencies, and the public utilizing principles of good customer service; provides effective conflict resolution, as needed.
8. Oversee and participate in the development and administration of the assigned divisions’ annual budgets; participate in the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments.
9. Assist in the preparation of the City’s Capital Improvement Program as related to assigned division.
10. Develop and standardize maintenance and operating procedures and methods to meet state and federal regulations and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operations and maintenance activities.
11. Prepare specifications, estimates, and bids for machinery, tools, equipment, and contract services; recommend, monitor, and administer contracts for consulting, construction, or other services as necessary; inspect work in progress and authorizes payment for work performed.
12. Monitor changes in regulatory agency laws and regulations; evaluate their impact upon City activities; recommend and implement policy and procedure changes as required.
13. Develop, implement, and ensure adherence to the department’s Safety Program, Standard Operating Procedures, OSHA regulations, and Radiologic Health Standards.
14. Produce required regulatory reports and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, laws, codes, and enforcement actions.
15. Prepare records related to operations, test results, work performed, and materials and supplies used; maintain accurate records and files; prepare periodic and special reports as required.
16. Research special projects, evaluate alternatives, prepare reports and recommendations; write correspondence, and respond to public and regulatory agency inquiries and provide pertinent information.
17. Respond to emergencies as required; coordinate activities with other responders to provide effective response; direct the work of staff and utilization of resources to affect operational effectiveness and ensure the safety of the community.
18. Serve as the liaison for the Public Works Department with other departments, and outside agencies; negotiate and resolve sensitive and controversial issues.
19. Serve as staff on a variety of boards, commissions, and committees; prepare and present staff reports and other necessary correspondence.
20. Conduct a variety of organizational studies, investigations, and operational studies; recommend modifications to programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate.
21. Attend and participate in professional group meetings; maintain awareness of new trends and developments in the field or fields related to the assigned division(s); incorporate new developments as appropriate.
22. Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
23. Perform related duties as required.

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering, urban studies, public administration, physical or natural sciences, or a related fields. A Master’s degree is highly desirable.

Experience:

Four years of increasingly responsible professional experience with a public agency in engineering, planning, public administration, or closely related field including two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.

License or Certificate:

Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license.

The City Manager is the administrative head of the government of the City. The City of Patterson is recruiting for a Firefighter Paramedic.  This safety position will respond to fire alarms, emergency medical calls, traffic accidents, rescue and other emergency calls to protect life and property.  This position will also participate in trainings, drills, study activities and in the maintenance of the department apparatus, equipment, and facilities.  Under the supervision of the Fire Engineer or Fire Captain, performs ALS care to patients of medical emergencies and other medical procedures. WILDFIRE DEFENSIBLE SPACE INSPECTOR

These are seasonal positions, limited to 1,000 hours worked within a fiscal year (July 1 thru June 30) that receive no City benefits.  Job training is anticipated to begin in early May with employment lasting through late Fall.  Shifts will average 8 hours per day/4-5 days per week.  This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience working for one of the finest departments in the State.

This position is fully funded through the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MPWA) and will directly support the mission of wildfire preparedness and mitigation, and community safety.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Fire Department is seeking customer service and public safety focused individuals to join the wildfire mitigation team. Under supervision, inspectors will perform a variety of wildfire prevention duties with a focus on one-on-one education via property wildfire risk evaluations.  The Inspector’s efforts will support resident compliance with City and State Fire codes.

The customer-service oriented positions will support the City’s and Marin Wildfire Fire Prevention Authorities (MWPA)’s goals. The ideal candidate will be able to connect and inspire individual action among our diverse community by explaining complex concepts in easy-to-understand ways.  Inspectors will utilize tablets and other technology to document findings and interactions in the field.

Our highly qualified candidate will be able to work effectively in small teams or independently and clearly communicate wildfire safety-related information to residents from various backgrounds.  We are looking for people who have sound judgment and can communicate effectively with others.  They will need to be able to follow both verbal and written instructions, engage effectively with the public and work harmoniously with our team. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):    

• Perform defensible space inspections and wildfire risk evaluations in accordance with San Rafael Municipal Code 4.12.
• Investigates public and referred public agency complaints.
• Provide guidance to residents on suggested and required home hardening and defensible space strategies. 
• Provide residents with appropriate support resources and programs.
• Increase awareness, knowledge and actions implemented by individuals and communities to reduce human loss and property damage from wildfires.
• Collects, enters, maintains, and disseminates data pertaining to fire prevention; reconciles reports, files and records.
• Composes letters and reports based on field notes.
• Collect and input data and images into electronic devices.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Communicate clearly and respectfully to residents and stakeholders.
• Learn and apply City and State Fire Codes and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
• Provide clear and concise written reports free of grammar and spelling errors.
• Utilize personal computers, tablets, and related software including the Microsoft Office Suite, mapping, and database tools.
• Independently conduct fire (defensible space) inspections.
• Apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection techniques.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

• In accordance with State legal requirements, applicants must be at least 18 years old by the application filing deadline.
• Graduation from high school or equivalent and any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities in qualifying.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS:

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for Extra Help-Cook within the Yuba County Jail. Under close supervision, prepares and provides institutional meals following federal and state nutritional guidelines, and performs other duties as assigned.  Yuba County staffs the Cook classification at the County Jail division in the Sheriff’s department  This position performs a full range of tasks associated with the preparation and distribution of meals to juvenile detainees and adult inmates.  The incumbent ensures that properly prepared nutritional meals are produced in a large volume, institutional setting.  Responsibilities also include overseeing detainees and/or inmates and institution workers assisting with food preparation. 

For successful performance, the incumbent would be required to have knowledge of principles, methods and equipment used in high volume meal preparation in an institutional setting; basic food groups and nutritional values; safe work practices related to food preparation, storage and service; basic business arithmetic; and basic inventory and record keeping principles and practices. Skill in overseeing and preparing meals in a large scale, institutional setting; overseeing and training others in basic cooking and work procedures; operating, cleaning and performing minor maintenance to large institutional food preparation and cooking equipment; maintaining accurate records and preparing work related reports; directing others in work procedures; and reading, understanding and following recipes and oral and written directions. The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff.   The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated.  The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. The Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) team of the Human Services Agency (HSA) of San Mateo County is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Rehabilitation Production Supervisor I/II. This current vacancy is a permanent position assigned in Catering Connection and/or the WorkCenter program. The position is a shared assignment and will be scheduled weekly to work in Catering Connection and/or the WorkCenter. The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships, engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem-solving, and leveraging financial and volunteer resources. The Department’s nationally and internationally recognized programs support thousands of residents throughout their life course, from infants to elders. The Aging and Family Services Division (AFS) of HSD specifically supports older residents and their caregivers to live active, healthy lives in the Tri-City community. With input from local, older adults (age 55 years+) as our guide, the AFS team strives to provide and AFS staff work together to provide a continuum of supportive services that range from health promotion activities to home-based end of life care. AFS has a Senior InfoLine (phone and email) that is answered in 4 language (Farsi, English, Spanish and Chinese) that is often an entry point. As an older adult or their caregiver’s situation changes, they seamlessly have access to a continuum of programs that include counseling and emotional support; care coordination and resource assistance; specialized family caregiver support and education. Many of these supportive services are provided in the resident’s home. We also provide regular expert clinical consultation, supervision, opportunities for self-reflection, and team building, fostering a culture of empathy, inclusivity, humility, and respect.

The Position

Under the supervision of the Age Well Center Managers, the Chef/Food Services Manager position manages meal programs for the City of Fremont’s Age Well Centers. Chef responsibilities across both Age Well Center locations include the performance of menu planning, purchasing of foodstuffs, preparing quantity meals, supervising and assisting kitchen employees and volunteers and maintaining clean and orderly kitchens.

The incumbent will be responsible for properly cooked, economical, and wholesome, well balanced meals in City operated Age Well Centers. This position is not limited to being responsible for the assignment of work, supervision and evaluation of paid and volunteer food service workers. The review and approval of proposed menus, food purchases, control and monitoring of expenditure rates; and institution of disciplinary actions are functions reserved for the Program Coordinator or Age Well Center Managers.

Examples of Duties

• Plan menus with consideration for the dietary needs of older adults, wholesomeness, quantity of food to be prepared and budgetary constraints.
• Estimate food requirements and requisitions for food and supplies.
• Prepare, cook, and serve a wide variety of foodstuffs for quantity food service.
• May cut/carve and cook meats; bake breads, cakes and pastries; peel and prepare vegetables; and make salads.
• Place food in serving containers and serves food.
• Maintain proper temperature, rotation and storage of food.
• Direct and assist in cleaning kitchens and kitchen equipment after each meal.
• Estimate food requirements and requisitions for food and supplies.

• Develop and support additional meal programs, including, but not limited to fundraisers, catering events and cooking demonstrations and special events.

• Oversee community garden program, including crop rotation, seasonal planting, and maintenance assignment.
