Under direct supervision, the Police Academy Recruit attends a basic Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified training academy to obtain the basic skills and fitness level necessary for the performance of Police Officer duties.  This position requires a thorough background investigation, psychological assessment, and a medical exam prior to appointment. This is the non-sworn, entry-level classification in the Police Officer series. Incumbents in this classification receive training in a controlled classroom environment.  Advancement to the sworn Police Officer position is based on meeting minimum qualification standards and satisfactory performance in the academy.

The City of Sunnyvale invites applications for Public Safety Dispatcher in Training. Under supervision and in a trainee capacity, processes emergency and non-emergency calls for service; dispatches police, fire, medical, rescue, animal control or other emergency equipment, by telephone or radio, utilizing complex technical aids, such as computer aided dispatch systems (CAD); and performs other related duties as assigned.

Public Safety Dispatcher-In-Training is the entry and trainee level in the public safety dispatcher series. Under close supervision, incumbents are trained in dispatching techniques, equipment, and protocols. Work assignments change frequently to facilitate training. Employees are subject to daily and weekly observation reports until they demonstrate the ability to perform independently. This is an alternately staffed classification. Public Safety Dispatcher-In-Training incumbents are required to achieve the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to advance to the Public Safety Dispatcher level within the twelve-month probationary period.

The County of Yuba is recruiting for the position of Social Worker III/III Master’s Level in the Child and Adult Protective Services Division of the Health & Human Services Department in an effort to establish an eligibility list for future vacancies. Under general supervision, incumbents are fully competent to independently perform the most complex and sensitive social services case work by providing a variety of services to County residents; identify, access and document abuse and neglect cases; provide counseling and support services to children and parents; refer clients to services; prepare detailed, complex court documents and testify in court as required; and perform related work as assigned. The Police Officer - Lateral position is a sworn position in the Police Department. Enforces Federal, State and Municipal laws and ordinances; performs patrol duties in cars, on motorcycles or bicycles, and on foot as required; enforces State and local traffic laws to regulate traffic, and investigates accidents; answers calls for service and the protection of life and property; makes arrests as required and testifies in court; performs crime prevention duties and community relations activities; interfaces with all City departments to insure the utmost service to the citizens of Campbell; prepares reports; services and maintains departmental equipment; may relieve or assist Records or Communications personnel.

Typical Duties: 

• Enforces Federal, State and Municipal laws and ordinances;

• Operate special equipment such as motorcycles and bicycles;
• Communicate utilizing standard police radio broadcasting procedures;

• Work cooperatively with others.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience: 

• Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university. (college units must be completed at time of application)
• Completion of a POST approved basic academy. 

Possession of: 

• Valid California Driver's License
• POST Academy Graduation Certificate
• First Aid Card & CPR Certificate 

Additional Requirements:

• Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for, and who has applied for, citizenship at least one year prior to application for employment. Application for citizenship shall not have been denied.
• Pre-employment: ability to pass drug and alcohol test; candidates must not have been convicted by any state or by the federal government of a crime, the punishment for which could have been imprisonment in a federal penitentiary or a state prison.
• Physical capacity to meet standards established by the City of Campbell
• Weight in proportion to height.
• 20/20 corrected vision in both eyes.  20/30 uncorrected vision (both eyes) for those wearing glasses or hard contact lenses.  Uncorrected vision requirements may be waived for persons wearing soft contact lenses upon verification of vision stability.
• If military veteran, discharges other than honorable will be evaluated on an individual basis.
• Satisfactory results on appropriate written, medical, background and psychiatric examinations.

Probationary Period: Upon date of hire and 18 months following the date of swearing in as a Police Officer

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION AND POLYGRAPH TEST
An intensive background investigation will be conducted on each final candidate in accordance with the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission Peace Officer Background Investigations Guidelines. Candidates will also be required to successfully pass a polygraph test administered by a licensed polygrapher, a psychological exam given by a City-selected psychologist and a medical exam by a City physician (to include a stress test EKG and general physical examination). The results of the psychological exam are valid for one year. Suitability for employment will also be based on the following POST job dimensions: problem-solving ability, learning ability, observation skills, willingness to confront problems, interest in people, interpersonal sensitivity, desire for self-improvement, dependability, integrity, credibility as a witness in a court of law, communication skills, judgment under pressure and physical ability.
