The Department
The Public Works Department plays a key role in shaping the community and its future as Fremont. Public Works is responsible for engineering, transportation, civic facilities, inspections, and maintenance for the City. The Engineering Division within Public Works helps deliver land development projects, executes the design and construction of public projects, and maintains and enhances the City’s transportation network.

The Position
The Police Communications Call Taker (Per Diem) receives emergency and non-emergency call for service, performs technical support duties in police department communications, and performs related duties as required. The position requires excellent customer service and communication skills.

The Building Inspector Specialist (Plumbing) enforces the provisions of the Plumbing codes by inspecting both new projects and additions and alterations to existing residential, commercial and industrial buildings; provides technical expertise and training in an assigned functional area; may be assigned to assist at counter or in development activities; and performs related duties as required.

THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Public Works and Utilities is comprised of six divisions that work collaboratively to develop, build, operate, and maintain Hayward's infrastructure. The Department is responsible for providing engineering and transportation support to City operating departments and divisions and for implementation of the City's Capital Improvement Program, all while providing excellent customer service to the community.
