The Ideal Candidate

The Police Department is searching for an effective and self-motivated individual who has the ability to perform first line supervisory duties, as well as provide secretarial support to an executive. The Senior Executive Assistant will be well versed in writing, reporting, supply management, scheduling, organization, time management, equipment maintenance and travel logistics. The incumbent will have strong customer service skills to communicate in a professional and effective manner both verbally and in writing. The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Building Inspector II to provide building construction inspections.  Our Building Safety team works as one solution-driven, cohesive team, and encourages leadership from the ground-up. Are you the next Building Inspector II to join our team?

The Building Inspector II is under the direction of the Senior Building Inspector. This position is part of a 12-person building inspection team working on a variety of projects from single-family, remodel, commercial tenant improvements in existing and new buildings, new construction of large development projects such as townhomes, apartments, hotels, and Class A office buildings.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of the building codes, is a good communicator to coworkers, contractors, and other members of the public, and will be able to prepare clear, concise and comprehensive reports, correspondence and other required documents; maintain forms, records and field reports relative to inspection activities and to document findings.

The Position

The Building Inspector Specialist (Plumbing) enforces the provisions of the Plumbing codes by inspecting both new projects and additions and alterations to existing residential, commercial and industrial buildings; provides technical expertise and training in an assigned functional area; may be assigned to assist at counter or in development activities; and performs related duties as required.

Examples of Job Duties

- Performs inspections, plan checks, and related duties in the specialized plumbing field of building inspection.
- Investigates unlisted equipment and suspect substandard installations to determine product equivalency.
- Resolves disputes over interpretation and application of building codes.
- Reviews building plans to determine compliance to specialized systems and methods and schedules of inspection.
- Meets with City officials, business representatives and the general public to discuss specialized facets of inspection, including procedures and problems.
- Represents the City at meetings and conferences in a positive, constructive, and complementary manner.
- Reviews and approves building permits.
- Trains staff in assigned building inspection specialty.
- Performs combination building inspection duties.

The Revenue Accountant position is part of the General Ledger and Financial Reporting unit within the Finance Section. The General Ledger and Financial Reporting unit maintains financial integrity over the general ledger accounts, oversees toll revenue from the seven state-owned toll bridges and from the express lanes, prepares the Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFR) and other stand-alone financial statements, and works closely with the auditors for the annual audits.

Under the supervision of the Toll Revenue Supervisor, this position prepares toll revenues from the seven state-owned toll bridges and from the express lanes. This process includes preparing daily toll revenue entries and monthly toll revenue and traffic reports; reviewing trial balance from the Regional Customer Service Center to record into BATA financial statements; researching and investigating variances; recording and analyzing the data; working with the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) unit, Electronic Payment department and other areas to ensure the accuracy of toll revenue accounting; reviewing and reconciling the general ledger accounts; and performing other job-related tasks or assignments as required.
  
All employees at MTC are classified as Disaster Service Workers.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:  

• Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An appropriate combination of education and experience that has provided the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is:

Education: A Bachelor's degree in accounting, public administration, business administration, finance or related field, including completion of a minimum of 24 semester hours in accounting.  A Master's degree is desirable.  (Applicants with a degree issued from an institution outside the United States must have their transcripts evaluated by an academic accrediting service and provide proof of equivalency along with their application.)  

Experience: Three years of increasingly complex professional accounting and auditing experience, with demonstrated proficiency in overseeing at least one major accounting program area; including the equivalent of two years as an Accountant/Auditor I for MTC.

License/Certificate: 
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and a safe driving record, or the ability to provide alternate transportation which is approved by the appointing authority.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Toll Revenue Supervisor, the Revenue Accountant will prepare the toll revenues from the seven state-owned toll bridges and from the express lanes.  This process includes, but is not limited to, the following:

• Prepare daily toll revenue entries.
• Prepare monthly express lanes and other revenue entries.
• Prepare monthly toll revenue and traffic reports by bridges. Coordinate the overall toll revenue reporting.
• Reconcile and identify toll revenue variances and investigate the reasons for the differences.
• Summarize the individual bridge reports into the monthly consolidated toll revenue report.
• Perform complex monthly reconciliation of revenues by bridge and adjust as appropriate.
• Perform monthly reconciliation between General Ledger and service center trial balance and various reports.
• Analyze, classify, and determine proper accounting treatment of toll transactions. Allocate and segregate toll revenue by programs. Coordinate and record financial entries into the financial system in accordance with accounting principles.
• Perform analysis and management studies of accounting requirements and participate in the decision-making process to resolve financial issues.
• Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with ETC revenue section, Electronic Payment department and other areas to ensure the accuracy of toll revenue accounting.
• Assist in other monthly financial close activities, year end close, and with the annual audits.
• Prepare year-end schedules for audit and provide documentation for auditors as necessary.
• Assist in the preparation of Accounting Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Section.

HYBRID WORK - Employees may need to be in the office for some assignments/tasks that can only be done onsite or at a designated MTC work assignment location. The individual in this position will be required to come into the office as needed.

What You’ll Do

• Receive on-the-job training, learn, and perform work in the following police records functions:
• Meet and assist the public at the Police Department reception counter and provide information according to City policy and Government Code requirements.
• Answer non-emergency heavy volume, incoming telephone calls.
• Operate machines and technology including but not limited to a computer, facsimile, copier/scanner/printer, calculator, desk-top computer, and a telecommunication terminal accessing County, State and National law enforcement automated information systems.
• Type, process, scan, and file a wide variety of police reports, warrants, subpoenas, citations, registrant files and court ordered record sealings utilizing various types of technology.
• Verify computer entries, process validations and assist with state and federal audits.
• Maintain logs for state and federal computer entries and updates.
• Retrieve and review daily crime reports for accuracy prior to submission to the District Attorney.
• Operate and organize a Department Records Management System to retrieve information such as searches for names, incidents, reports, and calls for service.
• Disseminate records information to department staff, outside law enforcement agencies, the public and other employees according to established laws and guidelines.
• Keep current on continuous changes and additions in report release requirements.
• Handle citizen complaints at the reception counter and on the telephone.
• Assist in training new and other assigned personnel.
• Perform record checks for authorized agencies in strict accordance with the law.
• Process vehicle release forms and collect fees.
• Process mail and order supplies.
• Purge department and citywide files as required.
• Assist in developing procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

If assigned to the Property Unit, duties may include but not limited to:

• Receive and maintain the chain of custody and integrity of, and safely store evidence, found property, and property held for safekeeping.
• Advise staff on proper packaging and submission procedures.
• Conduct inventories and audits of property and evidence.
• Release property to the public or the legally authorized persons in accordance with disposition forms, court orders, or stipulations.
• Check out items needed for court, investigations, and forensic testing; share evidence needed for investigation or review; transport items to and from laboratory and maintain strict records of chain of custody.
• Testify in court to verify chain of custody records of evidence.
• Make arrangements for auction of unclaimed property.
