The City of Brisbane is currently recruiting certified Lifeguards for our beautiful year-round outdoor aquatic facility.  Lifeguards patrol and watch the activities in and around the community swimming pool, enforce regulations to prevent accidents, and rescue swimmers in distress.  A full job description is available at www.brisbaneca.org.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is desirable.  This provision may be waived for applicants 15 to 18 years of age with ability to obtain a valid work permit.

Experience:  Previous experience as a lifeguard, having worked with youth and WSI certification is desirable.

Special Requirements:  Current Lifeguarding, Standard First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certificates are required. Current certifications for this program are not required prior to applying for position.

SALARY AND HOURS:

$17.06 – $17.91– $18.80 – $19.75 - $20.72 per hour.  This is a part-time position, paid sick leave benefit available. Initial appointments are generally made at the first step of this five step scale.  Hours will range from 15-25 hours per week.  Candidates that make the eligibility list may be selected for shifts as needed throughout the year.  Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the entire year.

SELECTION PROCESS:

Light cleaning duties will be expected.

San Mateo County Health's Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Division is seeking a responsible, innovative leader and skilled clinician for the position of Supervising Mental Health Clinician - East Palo Alto Services. This Supervising Mental Health Clinician will supervise and coordinate the work of mental health professionals and interns in the East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park geographic area in San Mateo County. This position works closely with community members and community providers to develop and sustain programming that is culturally and community responsive.

 

This position will participate in program administration, planning and evaluation. The Supervising Mental Health Clinician supervises and guides the clinical team who provides services to seriously emotionally disturbed youth and their families, and seriously mentally ill adults. Experience: Two years of professional post-graduate experience in a mental health setting.

Licensure/Certification:

This is the entry-level classification in the Lifeguard series.  Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn to perform essential lifeguard duties.  Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern.  Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.  As experience is gained, assignments become more varied; close supervision and frequent review of work is reduced as an incumbent demonstrates the skills necessary to perform the work independently.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS

Incumbents work outdoors in a pool environment with wet and slippery conditions, and are exposed to variable weather conditions; may be exposed to chlorine, acids, and other chemicals at aquatics facilities, as well as blood and body fluids while rendering first aid and CPR.  Incumbents will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.

Under general supervision, opens, closes, and secures the pool facility; monitors activities in the water, pool decks, and ancillary areas of aquatics facilities to ensure the safety of patrons; explains and enforces swimming programs and pool policies, regulations, and rules.  Performs rescues and administers first aid, CPR, and AED as needed; prepares facilities and sets up equipment for special activities and events; and performs related work as required.

Receives general supervision from higher-level supervisory staff and direction from higher-level staff.  Exercises no supervision over staff.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the journey-level classification in the Lifeguard series responsible for performing the full range of lifeguard duties, including patron safety and opening/closing an assigned pool facility.  Incumbents at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the aquatics operating procedures and policies.  This classification is distinguished from the Aquatics Lead in that the latter is an advanced journey-level classification which provides technical and functional direction over assigned lifeguard staff.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS), Child and Youth Services https://www.smchealth.org/bhrs, provides a broad spectrum of Trauma Informed mental health and substance use services for children, youth, and families focusing on prevention, early intervention, and treatment of youth diagnosed as Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) and/or substance use disorders. We provide services through specialty teams, outpatient clinics, in schools, and field-based teams in Daly City, San Mateo, Half Moon Bay, Redwood City and East Palo Alto.

 

BHRS also provides services through a network of community agencies and independent providers who offer outpatient and wraparound services. BHRS supports treatment of the whole person to achieve wellness and recovery and to promote the health and well-being of the people, families, and communities we serve.

 

Additionally for Residential Youth Treatment at Canyon Oaks Youth Center, Community Care Licensing requires providers working in this facility to maintain 40 hours of annual training related to the field, most of which are provided by the facility. Clinicians will also need to be trained in Professional Assault Crisis Training model (Pro-Act) upon hire.
