TEMPORARY POTTERY INSTRUCTOR

 (Recreation Instructor 2 - Job Code 9523)

Hours: 3 to 9 hours/week. Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30).  

Recreation Services Division is seeking self-motivated, energetic, responsible individuals interested in employment as a pottery instructor for adults. Under general supervision of the Recreation Services Coordinator, pottery instructors are responsible for teaching pottery techniques through lecture and demonstrations.  Classes are run year-round and meet once a week for 3 hours. Class sessions are six weeks long and include a week break for cleaning and restocking after two consecutive class sessions (every 12 weeks).

• Teach pottery/ceramic classes by leading and demonstrating techniques associated with the subject matter
• Maintain a safe, friendly and inclusive class environment for all participants
• Adjust class as appropriate and as needed to meet the various skill levels of participants
• Develop curriculum for each class meeting
• Knowledge of glazing and firing techniques
• Develop projects to keep class interesting for both regular and repeat participants
• Maintain documentation as required
• Report to work in a timely manner and appropriately prepared

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires regular sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading reports and work related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push, pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds is also required. The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Graduation from high school or tested equivalent; AND
• A minimum of 2 years as a professional potter or ceramicist; AND
• A minimum of 1 year of experience teaching *additional years of professional studio work may be substituted for teaching experience. 

Knowledge of:
Pottery and ceramic techniques including centering, wheel throwing, slab rolling, wedging, hand-building, low- and high-firing and glazing is required. Experience with alternative firing techniques is desirable, but not required.
ABILITY TO

• Develop new and interesting class curriculum
• Work with students of all levels and skill sets simultaneously

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

• A degree(s) in pottery/ceramics 
• Practicing ceramicist/potter with exhibition and studio experience

The City of American Canyon Parks & Recreation Department invites energetic, creative and responsible individuals to apply for the position of Program Coordinator. Program Coordinators are part-time, temporary staff members who work under Recreation Coordinators to oversee and implement a wide range of recreation programming. Program Coordinators may be asked to provide recreation leadership, supervision, and assistance in various recreation programs, including day camp, youth and adult sports, special events and outdoor spaces.

This position is well-suited for applicants with experience as a Recreation Leader or Youth Leader, can work independently, and effectively lead staff members.

Being a Program Coordinator can include working shifts that are scheduled during early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays all year around.  This is a position that is considered temporary/part-time and employees are limited to no more than 980 hours per fiscal year.

THE POSITION
The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a self-motivated, energetic, responsible individual interested in assisting with the administration and supervision of After School, Camp, Contracted Classes, Pre-School and Teen Programs.  The Project/Grant Assistant 1 aids in the planning, administration and implementation of all programs hosted through the Recreation Services Division, Youth and Teen Unit.

Essential Job Functions

(May include, but are not limited to, the following):

• Assist Recreation Services Coordinators in planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of programs for Pre-School, Camp, Teen, After School and special events;

Supervision

This position reports to the Chief of Construction. Assorted tasks may be supervised by the Construction Services Manager and the Construction Project Analyst.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Required Hours and Location

Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week with some scheduling flexibility. Occasional overtime work on evenings or weekends upon prior approval by supervisor. The position will work out of the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens but may be required to travel to various other locations. Offices at the River Center are spread among multiple buildings and floors.

THE POSITION:

The Community Development Department is recruiting for one full-time Permit Technician.  Appointment will be made at the appropriate level depending upon qualifications.  Under general supervision, the Permit Technician will perform a variety of technical permitting and administrative support work associated with front counter, virtual counter, and other office tasks related to department operations.

Permit Technician I:  This is the journey-level class in the Permit Technician series.  Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence and judgment on matters allocated to the Permit Technician II.  Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or no directly related work experience.  Employees work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks.   

Permit Technician II:   This is the journey-level class in the Permit Technician series.  Employees at this level are expected to perform with more independence and receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and polices within the work unit.  Depending on expertise and certifications, incumbents may perform minor over-the-counter planning and building plan check reviews.  Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and may be filled by advancement from the Permit Technician I class.

This position performs the following essential job duties (including but not limited to):

• Reviews and intakes planning and building permit applications.
• Determines and collects fees for permits and other review and regulatory services.
• Routes all application submittals to the appropriate departments/agencies for processing.
• Maintains files for all applications after checking for general completeness and accuracy.

Permit Technician I:

• Basic office and clerical procedures.

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Completion of two courses in building code, electrical code plumbing code, mechanical code, engineering, planning, or related field.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS:

• Possession of International Code Council (ICC) Permit Technician certification is desirable for Permit Technician I and II and is required for Permit Technician III.

LANGUAGE/MATHEMATICAL/REASONING SKILLS:

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

The position is responsible for the performance of both the day-to-day power settlements among NCPA members, Western, California, and Federal electricity markets, local balancing authority area operators (CAISO, BANC, EIM), as well as settlement activities associated with NCPA Power Management’s Service Customers. Other responsibilities include tracking and meter data management validation duties, GHG (Greenhouse Gas) monitoring and analysis, analysis and testing associated with new CAISO market initiatives, and comprehensive analytic or technical studies, as required, including proceedings before state and federal regulatory agencies and public officials. This is a full journey-level position capable of performing all the duties and responsibilities of the Settlements Analyst I. Performs the full range of duties as assigned, receiving only occasional instruction, training, or assistance as new or unusual situations arise. Additionally, incumbents perform a variety of assigned complex technical and professional work in the areas of power accounts settlements, budgeting, systems development, and audit. Provides analysis, integration, and implementation of new energy market initiatives and/or customers/Scheduling Coordination accounts (e.g., ISO, Western Energy Imbalance Market (“EIM”), renewable generating resources, Community Choice Energy/Aggregators (“CCE”).

Monitors settlements associated with Renewable Energy Credits and acts as or provides support to NCPA’s Qualified Reporting Entity representative; registers credits on the Western Renewable Energy Generation Information System (“WREGIS”) or its successor.

Monitors settlements functions of Western capacity and energy allocations, market purchases and sales, Pool transmission activity, and other transactions as they occur; Prepares or reviews power settlement transactions for proper budget classification.

Conducts special studies requiring complex, voluminous, and detailed analysis of power costs and revenues. Recommends operational changes that provide better value to Members and Participants.

Coordinates and participates in the development, analysis, and monitoring of the Agency's power supply budgets. Acts as power settlements representative to other department managers and supervisors in regard to cost summary and budgetary reports.

Assists with the implementation of systems, policies, and procedures and special projects requiring highly technical study and analyses. Recommends changes or modifications to methods or systems as applicable.

Assists with formal budget and other presentations to upper management and the governing body.
Performs special assignments for the Power Settlements Supervisor or others as assigned, including preparation of testimony and exhibits for presentation before state and national regulatory proceedings.

The Urban Forestry Division of the City of Fremont has two paid internships available for immediate hiring.  Through a variety of tasks and duties, interns will gain well-rounded, first-hand work experience and observational knowledge in the fields of urban forestry management and municipal administration.

The Role

The role consists of assisting city staff in the preservation, maintenance, and sustainable growth of Fremont’s urban forest. Examples of division responsibilities include program administration, tree assessment, community outreach and education, grant management, data collection and analysis, contracts and vendor management, project management, as well as other related responsibilities.

Position Details:

Under general supervision, this position is assigned to perform a variety of duties to support the users of various indoor and outdoor City facilities and programs. The Recreation Specialist will oversee programs and rental activities. This includes opening and closing buildings, managing swimming pool patrons and activities, monitoring facility use including facility and guest safety during rentals, setting up tables and chairs for rentals, City programs and events, performing light janitorial and custodial duties, ensuring compliance of established rules and procedures for the use of facilities, and performing other duties as required. Recreation Specialist-Pool Manager Duties and qualifications:

 

• Manages and supervises assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources
• Provides leadership and direction in the development of short and long term plans
• Supervises classes and co-sponsored programs
• Actively scan the pool, deck and locker rooms for safety and potential hazards and address the situation properly to remedy it
• Recognize and respond to emergencies in accordance with the facility emergency action plan
• Know and enforce all facility rules, policies, and procedures while providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all patrons
• Perform daily inspections or equipment and facility; correct and/or report any and all unsafe conditions to supervisor
• Teach swim lessons and aquatic classes to a variety of skill and age levels; evaluate participants according to program outlines and goals
• Lifeguard Instructor certification required
• Must test negative for Tuberculosis within the past 2 years
•  Must be patient and courteous with all members of the public
• Be dependable and punctual

Working Conditions:

Work is assigned at both indoor and outdoor facilities, and may include exposure to unsanitary conditions, odors, cleaning chemicals, and some noise. The successful candidate must be able to work variable hours, including mornings, late evenings, holidays, and weekends.

Supplemental Position Information:

Part-time temporary employees serve in an at-will capacity and understand that service with the City may be dismissed at any time. This position does not provide any benefits, apart from paid sick leave. In accordance with the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014, all temporary, part-time, and seasonal employees, who on or after July 1, 2015, work in California for 30 or more days within a year from the commencement of employment are entitled to paid sick leave for prescribed purposes.  Employees will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked and are entitled to use accrued sick days beginning on the 90th day of employment.
