San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services has career opportunities for Psychiatric Social Workers or Marriage and Family Therapists seeking to serve immigrants, first and second generation Latinx youth and adults, migrant farmworkers, rural working class, and other underserved clients facing the largest barriers to services and support every day. 

Currently we have one full time regular position on the outpatient School Based Mental Health Team at Coastside, Half Moon Bay (may occasionally be needed in San Mateo) that is bilingual Spanish required. The position entails working with Special Education students providing intensive individual therapy, family therapy, crisis intervention, and case management.

What we are seeking 

The ideal candidate will possess: 

• Solid clinical treatment, assessment, diagnostic and evaluation skills. 
• Experience/interest in providing treatment to youth (individual therapy, family therapy, and case management). 
• Experience/interest in working with youth with emotional disturbances and with varying degrees of functional impairment and psychiatric presentations.
• Knowledge of Special Education and Individualized Education Plans
• Experience/interest in risk assessments, crisis assessments, and triage.
• Knowledge of principles, techniques and trends in counseling, psychotherapy, clinical case management, crisis management as well as evidence-based practices. 
• Demonstrated ability or interest in working with a broad range of clients from diverse cultures, and backgrounds, and an ability to provide culturally appropriate clinical services. 
• Experience/interest in working in rural communities and/or migrant and seasonal farm working population. 

• Experience/interest in working collaboratively with primary care, psychiatry, and school districts. 
• Experience/interest in generating community referrals and helping clients to connect with those community resources. 
• Comprehensive and timely documentation skills: assessments, progress notes, client care plans, discharge plans, etc. 
• The ability to make sound decisions based on the exercise of judgment and the consideration of all available information. 

Minimum qualifications include: 

Licensure/Certification:

• Psychiatric Social Worker I: Registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Clinical Social Worker.  If an individual is not registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Clinical Social Worker at the time of hire, they must have submitted the application, and must obtain and provide the registration number within 90 days of hire.  An individual hired in this classification must become licensed within six years from the date of employment as a Clinical Social Worker issued by the State of California within three years of appointment.
• Psychiatric Social Worker II:  Current California license as a Clinical Social Worker.

• Marriage and Family Therapist I:  Registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. If an individual is not registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist at the time of hire, they must have submitted the application, and must obtain and provide the registration number within 90 days of hire.  An individual hired in this classification must become licensed within six years from the date of employment as a Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of California.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City’s Library Department –  Redwood Shores Branch Library and Schaberg Branch Library – is looking for energetic, enthusiastic individuals who enjoy working with customers of all ages in a challenging and fun environment, and who are interested in working year-round, 10-15 hours per week including day, evening, weekend, and assigned holiday hours.

Typical duties may include but are not limited to the following: Check in library materials; assist with sorting and shelving library materials; assist customers with use of computers, databases and web searches; troubleshoot computers and printers; perform minor cleaning; and other related duties as assigned.

Under direction of the Deputy City Manager, the Recycling and Solid Waste Program Manager plans, organizes, directs and participates in the administration of multiple integrated solid waste management contracts and programs within the City Manager’s Office; represents the City and provides staff support for a variety of intergovernmental committees, subcommittees and authorities.

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

The Recycling & Solid Waste Manager performs complex and politically sensitive tasks including functioning as the City’s integrated waste program expert.  Appropriate judgment is essential to this position, as incumbents are expected to use professional judgement and skills in establishing relationships working with regulatory agencies, other cities, franchised service providers, local businesses, and community groups.  Strategic thinking is also essential to this position, including the ability to see emerging trends and develop strategies to succeed in a changing environment.  Community sensitivity and awareness are crucial to this position, including gauging community reaction to new fees and programs, and being able to effectively communicate to a very culturally diverse community. Creativity is paramount in developing and implementing effective Recycling & Solid Waste Program marketing and public information programs, preparing grant applications, and developing new programs to increase the level of community recycling and materials re-use.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Managing the City's exclusive franchise contract(s) for residential garbage, recycling and organic (i.e., yard and food scrap) waste collection/disposal, commercial garbage collection/disposal, and private-sector contracts for materials transfer and recovery, and long-term disposal.
• Administering contracts including developing requests for proposals, overseeing the bidding process, recommending selection of providers, preparing contracts, policy development, negotiation and administration of the contract, reviewing revenue and expenses pertaining to collection and processing agreements, monitoring performance and regulatory conformance, resolving customer service issues, monitoring service providers for compliance with contracted level of service, and other contractual obligations.
• Prepares and administers the Recycling & Solid Waste (RSW) Program budgets; manages budgets to ensure appropriate spending and recording of expenditures, including tracking the status of associated RSW Special Funds and RSW Program grants.
• Managing the RSW Program's recycling programs including planning, organizing, and implementing programs and projects designed to encourage business, citizen, and public participation in waste reduction, recycling, pollution prevention, and composting, and maximizing efficiency and material recovery.
• Managing the RSW Program's public education, marketing and outreach program for RSW Program functions, and preparing, coordinating, implementing, and participating in public events which support RSW Program service objectives.
• Establishing and maintaining relationships with the press and other media, and community groups, organizations, and agencies, for publicizing, sponsoring and promoting RSW Program programs and events.
• Representing the City at the Alameda County Waste Management Authority (ACWMA), including Alameda County Recycling Board and Authority Board meetings and reporting significant issues to the City Manager in a timely manner; participating in County Waste Management Authority Technical Advisory Committee meetings; preparing and making presentations to the ACWMA and Recycling Board as required.
• Conducting resident and business surveys related to the RSW Program.
• Preparing a variety of data analyses on waste stream quantities and overall program elements, including cost analyses of programs, in conjunction with ACWMA and State programs and mandates.
• Providing reports to State and Regional authorities on integrated solid waste program results.
• Participating in the development of solid waste, waste reduction, recycling, and pollution prevention policies, which comply with regulatory mandates.
• Analyzing proposed regional, state and federal legislation affecting solid waste management.
• Recommending revisions of existing programs to meet new/changing needs.
• Preparing reports and documents for City Council study sessions and meetings; making presentations to City Council, other boards and commissions, and public groups.
• Providing staff-support and/or representing the City with a variety of committees, commissions, community groups, and the general public.
• Receiving and responding to customer service requests concerning scope of program, technical information, and service delivery issues.
• Developing proposals to obtain county, state, and federal grants; implementing and administering grant programs.
• Planning, assigning, supervising, and reviewing the work of professional and/or support staff; participating in the recruitment and selection of RSW Program staff.

A Dispatcher II is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher II acts as the Department’s primary dispatcher, receiving and relaying incoming calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance; dispatching police units; operating a variety of telecommunications equipment including radio, telephone, and computer-aided dispatch systems; status monitoring, records and file maintenance in a computer-aided environment; and entry level dispatch training. A Dispatcher II may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Have a combination of education and work experience, including a minimum of one year of dispatch work; two years general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm (net).  Have knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to dispatch police units quickly and effectively; work under pressure; exercise independent judgment; work with minimal supervision; make sound decisions in emergency situations; learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; operate computer-aided dispatch system, 911 emergency telephone, and other multi-line telephone systems, various law enforcement telecommunications systems, radio console with headsets and handsets, computer keyboards, cameras, intercoms, security. Willingness to work varying shifts and radio dispatching skills. 

SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION

This is a one-year, limited-term assignment, with the possibility of extension based on budget, departmental needs and approval. The position will require a minimum of 24.5 hours and up to a maximum of 39.5 hours per week. The work schedule may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Shift schedules are reviewed every four months and are subject to change.

SELECTION PROCESS

A thorough background check, as well as a physical, drug screen, psychological evaluation, and polygraph exam will be conducted on the top candidates prior to appointment consideration.  Failure to achieve a qualifying score on any portion of the examination process will eliminate a candidate from further consideration.
