San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department

The San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department commenced operations on January 13, 2019, and serves the cities of Belmont, Foster City, and San Mateo as a Joint Powers Authority. What You’ll Do

• Interpret and enforce provisions of fire prevention and fire safety laws, ordinances, and other regulations.
• Perform periodic inspections of new and existing buildings, structures and installations requiring fire clearances; identify fire hazards; recommend corrective actions; perform follow-up inspections to see that corrective actions have been taken.
• Investigate complaints pertaining to violation of fire prevention laws, issue correction orders as necessary.

Working under general supervision, the Correctional Technician is responsible for operating and monitoring video and audio systems to maintain the safety and security of inmates, juveniles, and staff within the secure detention areas. On-Call Expectations

Emergency Coordinators may be assigned on-call duties with a minimum of 7 days' advance notice, distributed equitably among qualified staff. During on-call periods, employees must remain within 30 miles of the facility and respond within 30 minutes of notification while maintaining reliable communication. Employees will be compensated for all on-call hours outside of normal working hours under applicable labor standards and collective bargaining agreements. Employees retain the right to engage in personal activities during on-call periods, cannot be assigned more than 7 consecutive days without a 48-hour break, and maintain full union representation rights and grievance procedures for any on-call related issues. All provisions comply with Fair Labor Standards Act requirements and union standards for emergency worker compensation and working conditions.

Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered. A typical path includes:

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, public administration, planning, GIS, or a related field

 

Experience: At least one year of experience supporting emergency planning, response coordination, training, or related public service activities

Preferred:

• ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications (or willingness to obtain)
• Familiarity with EOC functions and emergency notification systems

What You’ll Do

The Assistant Planner/Associate Planner performs professional level work in the field of current planning and/or advance planning to promote the City’s Mission and Values. The current vacancy may be filled at either level based on experience.

Assistant Planner - is the entry level class in the professional planning series and is distinguished from the Associate Planner by the performance of less complex tasks and duties in the fields of current or advance planning, which require the application of fundamental planning principles. Assignments are generally limited in scope and within the design and procedural framework established by higher level employees. However, as experience is acquired, the employee performs with increasing independence. Since this class is typically used as a continued training class, employees may have only limited work experience.

Associate Planner - is the journey level class in the professional planning series and employees within this class are distinguished from the Assistant Planner by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, which require the application of professional knowledge and skills to various municipal planning, zoning, and environmental problems and the preparation of specific reports and plans. The position provides opportunity for independent judgment in planning work details and making technical determinations. Work in this class is distinguished from that of Assistant Planner by the greater complexity of assignments including preparing zoning code and general plan amendment studies, and by the greater independence with which the incumbent is expected to operate. The Emergency Dispatcher I/II position in the Sheriff’s Department performs a variety of difficult work in the provision of 24-hour-per-day, seven-days-per-week public safety emergency dispatch service, including all 911 communications. Emergency Dispatcher I is the entry level class in the Emergency Dispatcher series.  It differs from Emergency Dispatcher II in that the II level is fully trained as a dispatcher and may provide training for the Dispatcher I. This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Receives incoming calls from the public; determines type of assistance required, including law enforcement, fire or ambulance personnel, etc., and dispatches emergency and non-emergency radio and telephone communications to appropriate jurisdictions and agencies.
• Operates a law enforcement 911 communications network.
• Maintains radio communications with field personnel as necessary to relay messages and information, and to determine the location and safety of field personnel.
• Performs a variety of clerical duties as required, including but not limited to answering business telephones; processing and/or maintaining department records, including case files; compiling information and statistics for reports; preparing criminal history reports; entering/cancelling/retrieving data on computer; ordering supplies, copying and filing documents, etc.

The Engineering Manager will report to the Director, Bus Infrastructure and Capital Projects and will be responsible for the engineering functions of the infrastructure and capital project development department for the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans). 

 

The Bus Infrastructure and Capital Projects Department oversees the delivery of major bus fleet and facilities infrastructure projects for SamTrans. The department’s projects include design and construction of zero emission infrastructure (battery electric bus (BEB) charging infrastructure and hydrogen fuel cell electric bus (FCEB) infrastructure) for SamTrans's revenue and non­revenue fleet of nearly 400 vehicles, sea level rise and flood mitigation structures, bus administration, transportation, and maintenance buildings, and other structures at SamTrans' North Base and South Base Maintenance Facilities.
