THE DEPARTMENT

The South San Francisco Public Library is a full-service library committed to delivering quality services to a diverse community.  Library services are available at three sites, including the Main Library (901 Civic Campus Way), the Grand Avenue Library (306 Walnut Avenue) and the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center (520 Tamarack Lane).  Lifelong literacy services are provided by Project Read at the Main Library and the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center (GMCLC).  The City currently has one opening in this classification, for a position in the Youth Services Division providing programs and services at the Main Library.

THE POSITION

The current opening for this position is in Youth Services, with responsibilities overseeing youth programs, collections, and makerspace activities. Under general direction, the Library Program Manager II plans, organizes, manages, supervises and coordinates library-wide activities covering core library services in technical, public, and literacy service areas. Incumbents work under the general direction of the Library Director or Assistant Library Director and exercises direct supervision over supervisory, professional, technical, paraprofessional and clerical staff, and volunteers. Incumbents in this class may serve as Library Director in the department head’s absence; may function as the Library’s project manager for specialized projects; and perform related work as required.

The Library Program Manager is a professional managerial position requiring the possession of a high degree of technical knowledge and supervisory responsibilities and is characterized by the comprehensiveness and complexity of the programs administered. An incumbent in this classification demonstrates strong professional, service-oriented leadership and interpersonal skills.

The standard schedule is 9:00 am – 6:00 pm, plus one evening per week (11:00 am – 8:00 pm) and one Saturday per month (9:00 am – 5:30 pm).

THE POSITION
Under supervision, performs sub-professional engineering office work to assist the Public Works Engineering Division teams on programs and projects that may include engineering permits, land development plan checks, procedural and standards research and development, record and asset management, traffic research and field crew assistance.

IDEAL CANDIDATE SECTION
The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in basic engineering principles and demonstrate proficiency in modern drafting and design practices. They should be familiar with engineering office tools and computer-aided drafting software such as AutoCAD, as well as design and GIS mapping systems.

We are seeking someone who is detail-oriented, highly organized, adaptable, and self-motivated, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The candidate should be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

The ideal candidate will have willingness to learn about construction management and inspection procedures and the ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations and drafting work. They should be capable of collecting and recording engineering field data with a high level of detail and maintaining thorough documentation. Proficiency in modern office software tools, including PowerPoint, to create professional presentations is essential. The candidate must be able to prepare clear and concise written correspondence, including responses to public inquiries, and demonstrate the ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively with contractors and the public are important. Flexibility to work varied hours as needed to meet project demands is also required.

TYPICAL DUTIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Performs a wide variety of responsible sub-professional engineering work including assisting engineering staff with general clerical, administrative, and technical tasks for public works projects
• Performs electronic document filing, enters data and creates reports in various software applications
• Conducts internet research and research of engineering record archives
• Processes permits and reviews land development plans
• Assists with Traffic Advisory Committee tasks
• Assists with internal and external communications and public outreach

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the full journey-level classification in the wastewater treatment plant operator series. Incumbents independently perform the full range of wastewater treatment and reclamation and recycled water facilities and equipment operations and maintenance duties. Responsibilities include inspecting and attending to assigned areas in a timely manner to ensure the proper operation and maintenance of the City’s wastewater treatment plant systems and equipment. Positions at this level work independently, exercise judgment and initiative and receive occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise. This class is distinguished from the Lead Plant Operator in that the latter is responsible for providing technical and functional direction to operations staff and is capable of performing the most complex operations and maintenance duties assigned to the division.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives supervision and direction from the Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager or designee. Exercises lead oversight, including provision of technical supervision, assignment of work and/or the training of less experienced staff.

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a highly qualified candidate to serve as the Sheriff’s Office Communications Management Analyst, supporting social media content, public information and internal communications.

The City of East Palo Alto has two vacancies for Maintenance Worker I. The Maintenance Worker performs a variety of work in the construction, modification, maintenance, and repair of City infrastructure, including buildings, parks, streets, stormwater, and/or drainage systems and facilities. The selected candidates will use and operate a variety of manual and power tools and light to heavy power-driven equipment. Additionally, if qualified, the incumbent will identify, locate, and mark the City’s underground utilities in accordance with California government codes and City policies and procedures; and perform related work, as assigned. The department may hire at either the I or the II level, depending on the education and experience held by candidates in the pool of qualified applicants.

THE JOB

Instruct children and young adults (primarily 5-14 years of age) in beginning to intermediate tennis camp. Class content should provide basic and/or more advanced game mechanics, strategies, and the rules of tennis, depending on the student level of the skill. Class must emphasize the importance of good sportsmanship and team play. The goal is to have fun and develop a skill.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
