The City of Orinda Planning Department seeks a strong customer-service oriented Planning Technician to primarily staff the Planning Counter and process code-enforcement cases.  Depending on experience, the successful candidate may also gain opportunities to assist with various current and long-range planning tasks.  This non-exempt position reports to the Director of Planning.

Receive, track/monitor and investigate public staff municipal codes and ordinances, standards, health and safety and other complaints.
• Conduct review of discretionary planning applications for design review, exceptions, tree removal, and other related requests.
• Serve as the City’s staff liaison to various groups (i.e., Orinda Historical Society)
  Basic mathematical principles.

The City of Newark is excited to announce an opportunity for an experienced professional to join our Public Works team as a Public Works Inspector! 

Under general supervision, the Public Works Inspector performs skilled and technical inspection work on a variety of public and private construction projects, including streets, utilities, and other public infrastructure. This role ensures conformance with approved plans, specifications, permits, industry standards, accepted construction practices, and all applicable local and state codes and contractual requirements.

The inspector reviews construction documents, oversees all phases of infrastructure installation and contract maintenance work—such as pavement overlays, stormwater systems, and utility installations—and ensures compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for traffic control. Responsibilities include conducting field measurements, performing material testing, maintaining detailed daily field records, and using applicable software to compile construction reports. The inspector coordinates with contractors, developers, and agency representatives to resolve construction-related issues and may provide functional supervision of field staff on assigned projects. All work is performed in accordance with City safety policies and procedures.

This class performs a variety of technical inspections related to the construction of public streets, parks, site development improvements, paving, grading, drainage, erosion, and storm water quality controls. Assignments, objectives, and work methods are specified. Incumbents' work will be gradually performed on a more independent basis subject to occasional review through consultation with the supervisor.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Education: 

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent. College level course work in construction or engineering is desirable. 

Experience: 

• Two (2) years of technical experience in public works inspections, field surveying, grade checking, or related field.  

License: 

• Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment. 
• Possession of a Nuclear Density Gauge Certificate within the probationary period and throughout employment.

DEFINITION 
Perform technical building inspection work to enforce compliance with California State building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, green building and energy codes; research new construction materials and methods; reviews plans for compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations; and provide information to and work with the public to resolve problems.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from the Permit Center Supervisor under the guidance of the Chief Building Official.  This position does not exercise supervision of others.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Essential job duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform routine to complex building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, energy and accessibility inspections of new and existing commercial and residential structures. 
• Ensures construction conforms to CA state building codes, local ordinances, approved plans, calculations, and specifications.
• Review specifications, and architectural plans of buildings to be constructed, altered, or repaired.
• Process minor building permit applications and over-the counter plan checks and assist in the issuance of building permits and front counter coverage as needed.

• Confers with and advises contractors, owners, architects, engineers, and the general public regarding interpretation and application of building codes and other applicable laws, ordinances, and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS 
Knowledge of:

• Knowledge of the California building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, energy, fire, accessibility, and housing codes, ordinances and laws, and related local, State, and Federal codes, laws, and regulations.
• General zoning and land use laws; general grading practices.
• Accepted safety standards, testing procedures and methods of construction.
• Principles and techniques of building inspection and plans examining work.
• Basic understanding of the plan checking process.  

Ability to:

• Analyze, interpret and accurately check building plans, specifications and building codes; draw valid, independent conclusions.
• Enforce codes with good judgment, impartiality and tact.
• Apply technical knowledge of building trades.
• Establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Experience:
Two (2) years of experience as an entry-level combination-building inspector.  
Specialized training and hands-on experience in the building trades are desirable.

Education:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. An associate degree in construction technology, engineering, or closely related field is desirable.

LICENSE(S) AND CERTIFICATION(S)
Possession of a valid California State Driver’s License, or license in another state with the ability to obtain a California license within 30 days of hire. 
Minimum of two (2) IAPMO or ICC Certifications in building, plumbing, mechanical, or electrical.
A State Contractors License, or engineering degree may be substituted for IAPMO or ICC Certification with the ability to obtain an International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Building Inspector, Combination Inspector, or equivalent during first year of employment.

This vacancy, reporting directly to the Principal Program Manager, will be at the center of this high-impact initiative. The role will be fast-paced, challenging, and critical to the success of Measure FF. The position will:

The Economic Development Manager will plan, organize, direct, coordinate and manage the activities of the economic development program utilizing specialized knowledge and skills to develop and implement strategies and projects to encourage business attraction, retention and expansion.  

The Economic Development Manager receives administrative direction from the Community Development Director. Responsibilities and essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to: 

• Assist the City Manager in developing and implementing the goals, objectives, policies and priorities for the economic development program.

A Dispatcher II is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. Have a combination of education and work experience, including a minimum of 1 year of dispatch work; 2 years general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm (net). Have knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to dispatch police units quickly and effectively; work under pressure; exercise independent judgment; work with minimal supervision; make sound decisions in emergency situations; learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; operate computer-aided dispatch system, 911 emergency telephone, and other multi-line telephone systems, various law enforcement telecommunications systems, radio console with headsets and handsets, computer keyboards, cameras, intercoms, security. • Salary: $6,987 to $9,050 per month. Placement within the range depends on experience and qualifications.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Senior Librarian with the Berkeley Public Library! In this role, you will have the opportunity to have a leadership role within the Teen Services division under the supervision of the Supervising Librarian, coordinate system-wide teen (ages 13 to 18) outreach programming, purchase items for the Teen collections, and assist in budget development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is equivalent to graduation from a college or university with a Master's degree in Library Science and three (3) years of experience as a professional librarian. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college coursework on a year-for-year basis.

A valid California driver's license is desirable. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
