The Air District is currently accepting applications for the position of Senior Advanced Projects Advisor in the Executive Office. This is open recruitment for one (1) full-time, represented position.

About you in the position
As the Senior Advanced Projects Advisor, you will be the cornerstone in coordinating all AB 617 work across the district, serving as the lead in orchestrating and implementing strategic planning for all divisions under the Deputy Executive Officer of Equity and Community Programs. Your role will be crucial in advancing environmental justice initiatives and ensuring equitable outcomes for communities disproportionately affected by air pollution. With your comprehensive understanding of air quality improvement programs and regulatory frameworks, you'll spearhead internal AB 617 engagement efforts. This includes communicating complex information about incentive programs and mobile sources, facilitating community meetings, and guiding discussions on emission reduction strategies. You'll be responsible for coordinating the implementation of the Air District’s strategic plan for all divisions under the Deputy Executive Officer of Equity and Community Programs.  Your expertise will be instrumental in preparing reports and presenting to the Board of Directors and stakeholders. Assembly Bill 617
Assembly Bill (AB) 617 (C. Garcia, Chapter 136, Statutes of 2017) was signed into law alongside Assembly Bill 398 which extended California’s cap-and-trade program for greenhouse gas emissions. AB 617 addresses environmental justice concerns regarding the extension of the cap-and-trade program by requiring the California Air Resources Board, with input from community groups, air districts and others, to select locations around the state to prepare community-led plans to reduce emissions of toxic air contaminants and criteria pollutants. The primary requirement for community selection is a demonstrated high cumulative exposure burden to air pollution and associated health disparities. In the Bay Area, and around the state, these communities are often low-income communities of color.
 
In 2017, West Oakland and the Richmond-North Richmond-San Pablo area were selected as the first communities to participate in the AB 617 program. Since then, East Oakland and Bayview Hunters Point/Southeast San Francisco communities have been added to the program. The Air District works closely with these communities to both develop and implement emission reduction and monitoring plans and, on the implementation of community-identified strategies.

DEFINITION
Under direction, provides lead direction and performs the more complex specialized technical and administrative projects and studies; serves as the District's liaison with other agencies; performs related work as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the management level in this specialized class. Incumbents provide lead direction and perform the more difficult and complex technical and administrative work in a variety of areas for the District. Incumbents perform project-oriented assignments requiring considerable professional knowledge and significant independent action and judgement. Incumbents may represent the District in strategic situations and speak with the authority of the District. Supervision of others may be assigned to this classification for special projects for a limited duration.

Position Summary

Under direction, inspects, maintains, trouble shoots, repairs and tests District and Bridge Division vehicles and equipment. Performs safety inspections and preventive maintenance, record keeping and written verification of work accomplished as required and performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities

• Effects major rebuilding, repair and/or removal and replacement of mechanical components on vehicles and equipment, including engines, transmission, clutches, differentials, pumps, motors, cylinder heads, compressors, hydraulic brake systems, air systems, steering systems, air conditioning systems, electrical systems and associated parts
•  Maintains and repairs a variety of vehicles and equipment including tow trucks, lane diversion trucks, dump trucks, pick-up trucks, sedans, crane trucks, aerial tower trucks, forklifts, loaders, sweepers, scrubbers, shop mules, towing tractors, scooters, welding machines and miscellaneous small equipment such as chain saws, concrete saws, pumps and generators
•  Provides minor and incidental repairs to vehicles and equipment in general, including manufacture and/or repair of components to maintain equipment
•  Accomplishes on-going preventive maintenance inspection and procedures
•  Responsible for normal and reasonable care of all District owned property and tools provided
•  Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job
•  Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service
•  Performs additional related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Completion of an approved four-year apprenticeship program OR four-years’ full time experience repairing two and four cycle air cooled engines, gasoline engines/diesel engines, automatic transmissions, air brakes, differentials and DC electrical systems. Gas and arc welding experience is desirable
• Must have an experience in the operation of machine tools common to repair shops, such as grinders, drill press, valve facers, lathes, boring bars, presses, etc. 
• Candidates holding A.S.E. certification are encouraged to apply

Required Tools: 
At the time of employment, a new hire must obtain and maintain a complete set of hand tools to accomplish assigned work. 

Required License: 
• Must Obtain A Class A or B License during 6-Month Probationary Period
• Must possess and maintain a current, valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record
• No reckless driving and DUI infractions within the last 7 years
• No more than 2 moving violations within the last 3 years. Operates District vehicles on a regular basis  
• California Smog license (Emissions Basic) is desirable

Physical Requirements: 
Frequent bending, pushing, reaching and kneeling. Must be able to lift 50 pounds frequently. Exposure to various chemicals used in the course of work. Work around fumes, odors, and dust in an occasionally high noise level environment with appropriate personal protective equipment. Working inside and outside in all weather conditions 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of: 
• Occupational health and safety rules and working practices applicable to this position. 
• Steering systems, electrical, air hydraulic brake systems, and power train systems including knowledge and experience with internal combustion powered vehicles.

Skill in or Ability to: 
• Diagnose and repair electronic ignitions and smog components; recent California E.B. certification preferred. 
• Troubleshoot diagnose, repair and/or replace components common to automotive equipment. 
• Work closely and cooperatively with Bridge Division and Shop Department personnel. 
• Read complex repair information and communicate orally and in writing with co-workers and supervisors. 
• Operate machine tools common to repair shops such as grinders, drill presses, valve facers, lathes, boring bars and presses. 
• Dismount and repair truck tires and up to 1100 x 20 tube, and 1100-22.5 tube-less tires. 
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office) for use in material requests, work orders, research, state and local material compliances and District communications • Communicate clearly both orally and in writing. 
• Work with hydraulic system and diesel power equipment.

The Redwood City Fire Department is seeking individuals for the position of Cadet Firefighter. The Cadet Firefighter Program is designed to allow students an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of fire department operations. Fire Department Cadets spend a minimum of 48 hours and a maximum of 96 hours per month at the firehouse, participating in calls for service, station duties, and training. Cadets will also be expected to attend department-sponsored community functions outside of their 96-hour monthly commitment. Though the goal is to immerse the cadet into all aspects of fire department life, they are not allowed to participate in situations deemed Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH).

This Fire Cadet position is a non-benefited volunteer position.

DEFINITION
Under general direction, the Housing Community Development Manager is responsible for the operation of the Division of Housing and Community Development which includes the supervision of technical staff and policy development and program implementation of the CDBG program, housing rehabilitation programs, and affordable housing programs for the City and Housing Development and Finance Agency.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Oversee the operation of the City's Community Development Block Grant program,
including all reporting to HUD, monitoring of expenditures, preparation and issuance of Requests for Proposals, preparation of funding recommendations, coordination with Public Works on infrastructure projects, and preparation and monitoring of contract/programs; oversee the operation of City housing rehabilitation programs; oversee the operation of the City's and Agency's affordable housing efforts including creation of new affordable ownership and rental units, acquisition and preservation of existing housing, applying for funding, and monitoring of existing units and contracts related to these tasks. Oversee an expanded focus on complex financial analysis, legal research, drafting of regulatory documents and ongoing creation of new programs in response to new affordable housing challenges. Oversight includes development analysis and presentation of policy alternatives, preparation of annual schedules, implementation, creation of a environment for staff, preparation of timely employee evaluations, drafting and review of staff reports, maintenance of excellent relations with County and other agency staff, local nonprofit organizations, City staff, and the real estate community, and participation in the management of the department. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: The federal Community Development Block Grant program rules and
regulations, affordable housing development and financing, general supervisory principals, principles of operation of municipal government, and general principles of budgeting and accounting.

Ability to: Communicate competently both orally and in writing; prepare cogent analyses and concise written reports for presentation to City Council and the Redevelopment Agency; maintain effective working relationship with Council, Agency, City and other agency staff, and the public; and provide clear supervision, direction, and feedback to staff. interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Education: A Bachelor of Art or Science degree from a four-year college or university, in
Public Administration, Business Administration, Economics, Planning or related field. A
Master's Degree is desirable.

Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible experience with community
development programs, one year of which must have been served as full-time supervisor. Experience with affordable housing development and finance is highly desirable. Experience in municipal government is desirable. Experience with microcomputers desirable.

License: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License.

Central County Fire Department (CCFD) serves the Cities of Burlingame and Millbrae and the Town of Hillsborough. The Department serves a population of 66,045 from six fire stations across a service area of approximately 15 square miles. CCFD is supported by 91 FTEs and a FY2024-25 operating budget of $37 million. 
 
CCFD is recruiting for a full-time Fire Inspector to join our dynamic, well-regarded Prevention Division! Under the direction and supervision of the Fire Marshal or Deputy Fire Marshal, the Fire Inspector performs responsible, technical, and specialized work in life safety inspection, fire investigation, and engineering and code enforcement. Through a grant obtained by the Burlingame School District, the Parks and Recreation Department is partnering to offer an afterschool program on each of the 6 elementary schools and to 6th grade students at BIS.  BPRD is looking for individuals who have a passion to work with youth. 

This position will be afterschool hours until 6:30pm, Monday through Friday. 

This is a temporary, part-time position and shifts may vary depending on the program and type of Recreation Leader (not to exceed 1,000 hours per fiscal year)

• Recreation leader 1 and 2: Students under the age of 18 are required to obtain a work permit from their school. All staff 18+ are required to pass a fingerprint check submitted to the Department of Justice. 
• Sr. Recreation Leader: Sufficient education and experience to satisfactorily perform the duties of the classification.

License:  

• Valid California Class C driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.

Mandatory paid training dates:

• Complete Mandated Reporter Training (will be provided by City)

Under general supervision, an Employee Assistance Counselor provides clinical assessment, short-term counseling and referral of City and County employees experiencing difficulties related to personal or work-related problems, such as stress, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, emotional concerns or relationship issues. A Counselor conducts seminars, trainings, and consultations on issues related to personal and organizational wellness; prepares records and reports; and performs related duties as required.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

1. Provides clinical assessment, short-term counseling and referral services to employees of the City and County who are experiencing difficulties related to personal or work-related problems, such as stress, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, emotional concerns or relationship issues; provides counseling of family members and significant others as appropriate.
2. Facilitates seminars and trainings for employees and management on personal, interpersonal and organizational issues such as the effective management of stress, anger and emotions, workplace negativity and dealing with difficult people.
3. Assists in evaluation efforts to determine the effectiveness of services provided.
4. Educates employees, supervisors and managers regarding EAP service offerings, how to access services, early identification of personal and workplace problems, and referrals to the program.

•    Performs major rebuilding, repair, manufacturing and/or removal replacement of mechanical  components on machinery and equipment, including engines, transmissions, gear boxes, planetary drives, clutches, differentials, torque converters, pumps, hydraulic systems, valves, electrical systems and associated parts
•    Operates and refuels portable air compressors, front end loaders, travelling scaffolds, air compressors and equipment and other machinery and equipment that the District owns or rents
•    Responsible for normal and reasonable care of all District owned property, equipment and tools provided.  Adheres to shop and equipment safety and housekeeping practices as required by District policy and agencies such as Cal OSHA and Industrial Safety
•    Assists in training apprentices
•    Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: 

• Completion of four year apprenticeship program or equivalent
• Four years' recent experience with two and four cycle gasoline and diesel engines, air compressors, differentials, brakes (mechanical, hydraulic and air) and DC electrical; operation, lubrication, service and minor repairs to front end loaders, drawbar graders, air compressors, bulldozers, backhoes and equipment towing vehicles, Operation of machine shop tools common to repair shops such as drill presses, grinders, valve reseating and re-facing tools, lathes, presses, reamers, cylinders hones, etc.  Laying, rolling and handling of asphalt (building of roadways, bike paths, etc.).  

 
Required License:  

• Must be able to obtain a Class A Driver’s License within the probationary period and continue to maintain a satisfactory Class A Driver License.
• No reckless driving and DUI within the last 7 years. 
• No more than 2 moving violations within the last 3 years. 
• Operates District vehicles on a regular basis.

  
Physical Requirement:  
Work outside in cold and other inclement weather. Able to stand for long periods. Position requires frequent bending and reaching. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Climb ladders.
