The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department mission is to provide opportunities for physical, cultural and social well-being; protect and enhance the physical environment; and ensure the effective and efficient use of public facilities and open space. The Parks and Recreation Department is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. 

The Recreation Division sponsors recreation and enrichment programs that meet community needs, address childhood obesity, promote wellness, create a culture of curiosity and learning, enhance the quality of life for the participants, and stimulate economic and community development. The Recreation Division consists of eight program areas, including Aquatics, Classes, Cultural Arts, Preschool and Early Learning, Senior Services, Sports, Rentals, and Youth Enrichment Services, as well as Special Events. Recreation staff are also tasked with operating recreation centers, picnic sites and rental facilities, preschools and select South San Francisco Unified School District after school sites that serve residents of all age groups. 

DEFINITION

Perform a wide range of administrative and office support activities for the Recreation, Arts and Community Services Department, its Director and/or managers and supervisors to facilitate the efficient operation of the organization.  The incumbent should be organized, detail-oriented, accurate, and adept with various computer software.  Perform routine correspondence, field public inquiries, maintain departmental files consistent with the Town’s records retention policy; schedule appointments and meetings, procure supplies, assist with data entry, and provide support related to the review, production, and distribution of staff reports.

 

The Recreation, Arts, and Community Services Department currently has two open positions: one providing support to the department and another focused on facilities management.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direction from assigned management personnel. May exercise technical supervision over other clerical positions.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES FOR BOTH POSITONS:

Essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform general clerical duties related to assigned functional area, including formatting, copying, collating, compiling, binding, and distributing simple and complex reports
• Type, format and edit letters, memoranda, staff reports, public notifications and other documents.
• Compile and maintain complex, extensive paper, and electronic records and files; act as a resource for other employees on the material in files and records maintained or processed
• Assist with simple analysis as needed such as entering data and creating charts in Excel spreadsheets or entering data in the enterprise-wide financial software
• Order and maintain office supply inventories and ensure office equipment in working order
• Determine and manage priorities for multiple tasks to meet assigned deadlines
• Open, sort and distribute incoming correspondence or mail
• Schedule and coordinate meetings as required
• Work cooperatively with other departments, outside agencies, and the public
• Assist in the compilation and mailing of public notifications
• Maintain professional appearance of departmental common areas and lock department area in the evening as directed
• Understand the organization and operations of assigned department and Town as necessary to carry out responsibilities

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES FOR FACILITIES POSITION: 

• In charge of renting all indoor facilities in the Town of Danville.
• In charge of renting out bocce, picnic, and tennis courts in the Town of Danville.
• Scheduling tours with potential renters.
• Supervise and schedule part time facilities staff.
• Collect floor plans for rentals and making sure staff have them for their shifts.
• Answer calls and questions that come in on the facilities line.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:           

• Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
• Bookkeeping principles and procedures; business mathematics
• Strong command of English language; spelling, grammar, and punctuation
• Type accurately at 45 words per minute

Ability to:      

• Obtain a TB test prior to first day of work, or provide a result from within the last four years
• Communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written form
• Understand and follow a variety of oral and written instructions with minimal supervision
• Apply operating rules and procedures of assigned department

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

 

Experience:

Four years (4) of experience performing duties comparable to those of an Office Assistant, including one year of standard bookkeeping duties. Experience within a Recreation department is highly desirable, as well as experience with facilities rentals.

OR                      

Two years (2) of experience performing standard clerical duties, including usage of Microsoft Office Suite. 

 

Education:     

The equivalent of the successful completion of twelfth grade; college degree preferred.

• Associates Degree or 60 college semester units in a related field from an accredited college, supplemented by one year of experience in code enforcement.  Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis up to a maximum of one year.
• Documented code enforcement related training from a recognized code enforcement association in the State of California, which includes training in the areas of property management and landlord tenant issues.
• Bilingual skills are highly desirable. 

The Planning and Building Department is seeking qualified candidates for Code Compliance Officer I/II/III.

Working under limited direction, the Code Compliance Officer ensures compliance with land use codes and ordinances by investigating and enforcing regulations on zoning, building, property maintenance, weed abatement, public nuisances, and abandoned vehicles. Duties include processing complaints, conducting research and site inspections, issuing notices and citations, maintaining records, preparing reports and inspection warrants, and representing the County in administrative hearings. The role involves frequent public interaction, particularly when investigating complaints and recommending corrective actions.

Ideal Candidate:
In addition to the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below, the ideal candidate will have:

• At least two to three years of experience interpreting, analyzing, and applying local zoning codes and ordinances.
• Effective interpersonal skills, with experience explaining policies and procedures to members of the public, dealing with uncooperative or angry customers, and working effectively as part of a team.
• Experience documenting activities using a permit tracking system.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and project management skills. 
• Possession of or ability to obtain within the first two years of employment, a Code Enforcement Training Certificate, such as from CACEO, the California Association of Code Enforcement Officers, or a similar professional group, such as ICC, International Code Council, or AACE, American Association of Code Enforcement.

• Investigate alleged code violations in response to public complaints.
• Identify and investigate violations observed while in the field.
• Process cases in accordance with procedures and standards of the Planning and Building Department and in accordance with state and local laws.

The Superior Court of California, San Mateo County is seeking highly qualified individuals for the position of Court Commissioner. 

 

The appointment to this position shall be by the judges of the superior court and shall be under the general direction of the presiding judge.

 

Pursuant to California Rules of Court, candidates must have been admitted to practice law in California for at least 10 years or, on a finding of good cause by the presiding judge, for at least 5 years.

 

The commissioner’s duties include the subordinate judicial duties set forth in Code of Civil Procedures 259, which include but are not limited to conducting judicial hearings in a broad range of civil proceedings which may include family law, making findings of facts in traffic, small claims, and criminal proceedings, and performing other subordinate judicial activities as may be conferred by law or by order of the court.

 

There are currently two vacancies for Court Commissioners.  One position is a regular position and the second is a limited term position.  Limited term positions are full-time, temporary assignments not to exceed three years. Limited term employees receive medical and dental benefits, like regular employees, and a defined contribution retirement plan.

The Position:

The Customer Service Representative is the entry-level classification in the Customer Service Representative series. This classification has a primary focus on providing superior customer service to the citizens and customers of the City of Santa Clara in handling a variety of customer account and billing issues.  Incumbents in this classification may be assigned to answer telephone calls, handle difficult inquiries, perform cashiering duties, process business licenses, and perform functions associated with customer billing, analysis, account adjustments, collections, or the financial assistance programs offered to utility customers.  This classification is distinguished from the Senior Customer Service Representative in that the latter is a lead worker position requiring a greater degree of technical knowledge, analytical ability, and independent judgment.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Ferry Mechanic performs preventative, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair, and modifications on structural, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, piping and control systems found on ferry vessels and passenger terminals; performs related work as assigned. Day Shift:               $56.32 per hour
Swing Shift:           $56.32 per hour + 10% differential pay
Graveyard Shift:    $56.32 per hour + 15% differential pay
 

Essential Responsibilities

• Working with computers on a daily basis for work scheduling, work order entry and work order reporting on the Districts electronic maintenance system in addition to notifications and communications.
• Conducts tests, analyses and measurements as directed to diagnose any unusual, erratic or malfunctioning occurrence in any shipboard or terminal system or component.
• Reports any unusual wear patterns, noise, pressure, temperature, or changes in voltage, current, cycles, resistance or any other indication of potential malfunction.
• References manufacturer schematics including blueprints, drawings and specifications to resolve maintenance issues.
• References parts catalogues and other sources to determine correct parts for specific applications.
• Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs and overhauls as directed.
• Documents and records work performed and parts and materials used in the electronic maintenance system. 
• Reports all safety hazards and corrects unsafe situations immediately where possible.
• Immediately reports to supervisor any potential maintenance problem or condition which could cause a possible schedule delay.
• Maintains all work areas, special tools and equipment used in performing maintenance function, in a clean and orderly manner.
• Operate a forklift and other equipment/vehicles safely.
• Interacts on a regular basis with vessel operations personnel.
• Adheres to the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to job.

The City of Pacifica is a beautiful coastal community, just south of San Francisco with an exciting opportunity. We are currently hiring an Engineering Intern to join our team. Under general supervision, the new team member will perform sub-professional engineering work involving manual and computer drafting, traffic data gathering, records management, map interpretation and processing, retrieval of information, assist with field surveys, and to do related work as required.
