The City of Pacifica is excited to host approximately seven (7) Summer Interns across multiple departments. This program is designed to provide students with substantive project experience, professional mentorship, and exposure to the inner workings of municipal government. Unlike a general internship pool, each department will recruit for a specific opportunity aligned with its operational needs and professional focus. 

About the Program

The Summer Internship Program was developed in collaboration with the Next Generation Committee, sponsored by the City/County Managers Associations of San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. The program supports the development of emerging professionals and promotes careers in local government.

The Summer Internship Program is tentatively scheduled to run from June 15, 2026 through August 14, 2026 (8 weeks). End date may be adjusted based on the intern's schedule and availability.

Selected applicants will be invited to interview during a tentative window of March 23 – April 3, 2026, with flexibility as needed.

The City anticipates finalizing offers by April 24, 2026 to allow adequate time for summer scheduling and coordination. Internships are part-time (up to 25 hours per week), seasonal, at-will, and non-benefited positions.

About the City Manager's Office/City Clerk Summer Intern Opportunity

The City Manager’s Office and City Clerk’s Office internship provides an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in local government administration, public records management, and customer service. Under general supervision and mentorship, the intern will gain hands-on experience supporting executive-level operations while serving as a key point of contact for the public. This internship is ideal for a motivated and detail-oriented student who is interested in developing practical skills in municipal administration and public service. About the PB&R Summer Intern Opportunity

The Parks, Beaches, and Recreation Department is where community fun meets local government operations! From summer camps and special events to aquatics, child care, senior services, and recreation programs, our team helps create the experiences that make Pacifica an amazing place to live, work, and play. This internship is a great opportunity for someone who wants real-world experience in a local government setting while getting exposure to a wide variety of projects. Interns will gain hands-on experience supporting day-to-day recreation operations, learning how programs are planned and delivered, and assisting with behind-the-scenes work that keeps everything running smoothly. If you’re someone who enjoys staying organized, working with a supportive team, and wants to learn what it’s really like to work in public service (while still being part of the fun side of government), this is a great opportunity to build skills and experience in a welcoming and energetic environment. • No prior recreation experience required; training will be provided

About the Economic & Housing Development Summer Intern Opportunity

The Economic & Housing Development Division advances initiatives that support fiscal sustainability, business vitality, housing production, and long-term community resilience. The Economic Development Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting business attraction and retention, marketing and tourism initiatives, special events, and strategic planning efforts aligned with the City’s adopted Economic Development Work Plan. The Information Technology (IT) Division supports the City’s technology infrastructure, cybersecurity practices, and digital service delivery across all departments. City of Half Moon Bay
Intern – Public Works / Engineering Department

About the City

The City of Half Moon Bay is a Bay Area coastal community of approximately 12,500 residents and is located 25 miles south of San Francisco. The City is governed by a five-member elected City Council and utilizes the council-manager form of government. The City Council appoints a City Manager who is responsible for the oversight of daily operations and provides leadership for the City’s programs. About the Position

The Public Works Department is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic intern with an interest in engineering, project management, and public service. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in local government operations and civil engineering under general supervision and mentorship from professional staff.

The selected intern will assist with a variety of projects and ongoing assignments, which may include but are not limited to:

• Assisting with Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects, including design and construction

• Supporting engineering project managers with clerical, administrative, and technical tasks

• Researching and analyzing programs and initiatives

• Updating internal procedures and policies

• Creating and editing CAD maps, designs, and standards (AutoCAD)

PROGRAM LEADER (Youth Services/Kids’ Night Out/Kids Day Out Programs)

Salary Range: $17.37 to $23.15/hour (DOE)

Part-time temporary, non-benefitted position; 10 hours per month in Kids’ Night Out Program and Bi-monthly Friday night availability (6-11 pm) required. Additional shifts are available on San Ramon Unified School District days off school, during recreation pop ups, and special events. (not-to-exceed 950 hours per fiscal year)

GENERAL DUTIES

Under the general supervision of the Youth Program Coordinator, Youth Services staff is responsible for supervision and safety within the bi-monthly Kids’ Night Out and Kids Day Out Program, including implementing a variety of crafts, games and activities for youth ages 5 to 11.  As a Youth Services staff member, you will:

• Gain experience leading arts, crafts, games, and activities;
• Serve as a mentor and role model to youth;
• Learn to work as part of a team and lead activities;
• Acquire skills to safely and appropriately supervise youth in a staff-to-youth ratio environment.
• Assist with recreation pop ups and special events
• Other duties as assigned

Specific to Youth Services:

• Plan and execute duties related to special interest classes, school-year and seasonal programs, and special events.

The City of Pacifica is excited to host approximately seven (7) Summer Interns across multiple departments. This program is designed to provide students with substantive project experience, professional mentorship, and exposure to the inner workings of municipal government. Unlike a general internship pool, each department will recruit for a specific opportunity aligned with its operational needs and professional focus. 

About the Program

The Summer Internship Program was developed in collaboration with the Next Generation Committee, sponsored by the City/County Managers Associations of San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. The program supports the development of emerging professionals and promotes careers in local government.

The Summer Internship Program is tentatively scheduled to run from June 15, 2026 through August 14, 2026 (8 weeks). End date may be adjusted based on the intern's schedule and availability.

Selected applicants will be invited to interview during a tentative window of March 23 – April 3, 2026, with flexibility as needed.

The City anticipates finalizing offers by April 24, 2026 to allow adequate time for summer scheduling and coordination. Internships are part-time (up to 25 hours per week), seasonal, at-will, and non-benefited positions.

About the HR Summer Intern Opportunity

The Human Resources Division plays a central role in supporting the City’s workforce and organizational culture. The HR Intern will gain hands on exposure to public sector human resources operations, including recruitment, employee engagement, policy research, and organizational initiatives. In addition to supporting core HR functions – this intern will serve as the lead coordinator for the Summer Internship cohort experience. This opportunity is ideal for a student who is genuinely interested in pursuing a career in Human Resources or public administration and wants both operational and leadership exposure.

Responsibilities May Include (but Are Not Limited To):

• Assisting with recruitment efforts, including job postings, applicant tracking, and interview coordination
• Supporting onboarding processes for new employees
• Conducting research related to classification, compensation, and HR best practices
• Assisting with development or revision of HR policies and procedures
• Preparing reports, presentations, and internal communications
• Supporting personnel file organization and HR records management (confidentiality required)
• Serving as the Internship Engagement Coordinator by organizing and facilitating group lunches, networking opportunities, and cohort connection activities for Summer Interns

Education & Experience:

• Current undergraduate student majoring in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Development, Psychology, or a related field
• Coursework in human resources management, employment law, organizational behavior, or related subjects preferred
• Demonstrated interest in employee engagement, culture, or organizational development

Preferred Skills & Knowledge:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Interest in human resources and employee engagement highly preferred
• Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion
• Strong organizational and event coordination skills
• Initiative and ability to work independently
• Analytical and research skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
