The Public Works Department
The Public Works Department consists of Design Engineering, Development Engineering, Construction, Civic Facilities, Transportation, Survey, and Real Property sections. The department reviews all proposed land development projects in the City and executes the design and construction of public projects such as streets, parks, and public buildings.

Requirements

This is a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) position. Candidates must successfully pass a complete background investigation including fingerprints, polygraph, psychological and medical examinations. Applicants with a felony conviction and/or a conviction outside of California that would be considered a felony in this state will be disqualified.

After passing the exam, hiring interview and screening processes, candidates are eligible to be hired as Communications Dispatcher I - Unclassified (U) and attend the 8-week Basic Communications Dispatcher Academy training program as a trainee. Environmental, Health, and Safety Unit (Position Code 644) 
Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite, after completion of the probationary period (one year).

The Positions
Silicon Valley Power (SVP) is seeking dynamic and innovative Senior Electric Utility Engineer candidates to immediately fill two (2) vacancies  in the Customer Development and Project Management divisions, with potential future vacancies in these or other divisions. The ideal candidates will have electric utility engineering experience; excellent project management skills; strong oral and written communication skills; experience working in a team environment on major construction projects.
 
For the Engineering Division:

This position will lead substation engineering and standards development that support the mission of the Utility. This individual should be an experienced, self-starter who can thrive in both an autonomous and team environment. This position requires hands-on working knowledge of   substation design and construction, and standards development. A working knowledge of protection and control systems, communication systems, project management, and Compliance is desirable. The candidate should have extensive knowledge of substation engineering concepts, principles, and practices to resolve complex problems with only general direction. This position supports day-to-day utility operations and Compliance.

For System Expansion Division 

This position will support System Expansion Capital Projects and have the opportunity to work on complex and exciting large capital system expansion improvement projects in a dynamic, team-oriented environment. This position will be working on four large system expansion projects moving forward to bid and construction, totaling an estimated cost of $440 million. This position requires hands-on work during construction of 3 receiving station projects and one 2.25-mile 115kV transmission line project. The position may also assist with outage management, construction and contracts management, material procurement and tracking, and easement acquisition. As such, the ideal candidate will have large substation or receiving station project experience and be able to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities. The candidate will show proven problem-solving skills and excellent communication.

Minimum Qualifications

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with: a) Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and three (3) years experience in electric utility engineering work or b) a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and four (4) years experience doing electric utility engineering work or ten (10) years experience doing electric utility engineering work and satisfactory completion of a qualifying written examination.  A Master's Degree in electrical, mechanical or civil engineering from an accredited college may be substituted for one year of experience (proof of receipt of an Engineer In Training certificate may be substituted for the qualifying written examination).  Candidates from a non accredited college or university must demonstrate equivalency. Registration as a professional electrical, mechanical or civil engineer in the State of California may be substituted for accreditation equivalency.

LICENSE
Possession of a valid California Driver's license.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
May work unusual hours in emergency situations, or while acting as duty supervisor outside regular working hours, or at other than regular job site.

SCOPE OF EXAMINATION FOR QUALIFYING EXAMINATION (if necessary) Fundamentals of engineering and science. Mathematics including algebra, geometry, complex numbers, trigonometry, calculus; electrical theory (alternating and direct current), statics, dynamics, thermodynamics and economic analysis.

The position of Systems Control Operator III is responsible for remotely monitoring, operating, and controlling Valley Water’s raw water system, including local and imported raw water transmission facilities, three pumping plants, and appurtenances to control the flow of water from the Raw Water Control Center during an assigned shift.

• Maintain and operate automated controls to ensure that commitments and daily schedules are met according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Remotely control the flow of water through turnouts to achieve the demands of three water treatment plants and adequate delivery of water for managed groundwater recharge and environmental stream flows.
• Validate unusual readings of flow, pressure, and Hydraulic Grade Line (HGL) by contacting field personnel for verification; notify supervisor or maintenance personnel of unusual conditions.
• Monitor stream flow stations to prevent dry back conditions that result in violations of state and federal fish and wildlife ordinances.
• Confer with the water treatment plant operators, other internal staff, and personnel from other utilities regarding system operation.
• Explain the system's SOPs to visitors.
• Observe and inspect pumps, motors, generators, and related equipment for safe and proper operation; coordinate high-voltage and general switching orders in dealing with Western Area Power Authority (WAPA) and Pacific Gas and Electricity (PG&E).
• Issue internal and external switching and clearance orders; bypass portions of the system during emergencies or planned maintenance shutdowns; and ensure lockout/tagout procedures are completed before maintenance activities commence.
• Perform confined space entry functions in the completion of assigned tasks; ensure adherence to established safety procedures and precautions.
• Maintain detailed logs and records of work performed; issue source change notifications; and prepare clear and concise reports, as requested.
• Interact with Valley Water's Emergency Operations Center (EOC), field operations personnel, and County communications personnel to resolve emergency flood control situations during periods of heavy rain.
• Work 12-hour, day or night shifts on weekdays or weekends on a rotating basis every six months.
• Work on-call during the weekends and nights on a rotating basis.
• Communicate with external customers such as the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) and San Benito County Water District and internal customers (water treatment plants operators, water resources technicians, and hydrographers) about operations such as shutdowns; coordinate with customers to ensure they receive deliveries; and communicate, plan, and orchestrate system.
• Use pressure monitoring devices to find leaks in pipelines.
• Follow safety regulations and applicable safety policies and procedures.
• Serve as a disaster service worker and perform disaster service activities as may be assigned by supervisor or law, pursuant to California Government Code Section 3100.
• Perform all related duties and responsibilities as required.

Description

 

The Position:

Silicon Valley Power (SVP), the City of Santa Clara’s Electric Utility, is seeking two (2) skilled and customer-focused Information Technology Systems Specialists to support the utility’s end-user computing environment.

This position is part of SVP’s Systems Support Group (SSG) — the technology backbone of the utility — which provides reliable, high-quality technical support and systems management for SVP’s staff and operations. As a growing division, SSG supports a broad range of technology projects and modernization initiatives, including those driven by the unprecedented growth in the utility’s service area.

The Information Technology Systems Specialist plays a key role in help desk and deskside support operations, providing timely and effective technical assistance to end users. Core responsibilities include diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and connectivity issues; performing system deployments, imaging, and upgrades; managing user accounts and access; and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation. Additional duties include helpdesk management, application packaging, patch management, group policy administration, software installation and licensing, VOIP and telephony support, VPN/RDP connectivity, and ensuring the overall reliability and security of end-user devices and systems.

The ideal candidates will demonstrate strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service. This position also participates in an on-call and after-hours support rotation, providing critical technical support and ensuring the availability of key systems during emergencies or planned maintenance activities.

• Possession of advanced computing, computer technician, and/or cybersecurity certificates, such as A+, Security +, etc.);

The City of Saratoga has an open recruitment for a full-time Park Maintenance Lead Worker in the Public Works Department. The incumbent will report to the Park Maintenance Division Manager. Position Duties

 

The total salary range for the Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Supervisor classification is $112,563.36 - $137,220.72 annually.

This amount includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience. 

The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) Department is currently seeking to fill one (1) Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Supervisor positions in the Recreation Division.

The Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Supervisor positions perform duties that may require knowledge in a variety of subject areas, such as recreation, therapeutic recreation programs, and/or gerontology recreation programs, and care and shelter coordination; may be responsible for ensuring the proper maintenance and operation of City Parks by supervising interpretive and education programs for City park users, ensuring safe, secure parks; maintaining and conserving natural features and wildlife in City parks and coordinating emergency services within parks, such as search and rescue and fire suppression. The positions must have the ability to constantly adjust to changing conditions and support a wide variety of customers, agencies, and department staff.

The Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Supervisor (PRFS) assigned to the Recreation Division performs duties that may require knowledge in a variety of subject areas, such as recreation, therapeutic recreation programs, and/or gerontology recreation programs. The PRFS may be assigned to Community Center operations, Citywide service areas (including leisure, seniors, therapeutics, or aquatics). Community Center operations include responsibilities in leading a team at a multi service HUB including seniors, adults, and youth programs in addition to recreation programming throughout the Council District at satellite sites. PRFS’ assigned to Citywide roles will be responsible for the administration and delivery of major citywide recreation programming related to the areas assigned to that PRFS. The positions must have the ability to constantly adjust to changing conditions and support a wide variety of customers, agencies, partners and department staff.

Responsibilities for these positions may include, but are not limited to the following: 

• Supervises, trains, and evaluates subordinate staff and their work. 
• Gathers and compiles routine statistical, program, race, and ethnicity data. 
• Prepares and reviews records, forms, reports, permit applications, and grant reporting.
• May handle cash and perform cash reconciliation, monitors and tracks budgets. 
• Prepares, controls, and implements budgets for specialized service programs within assigned area and provides budget input for personnel, equipment, supplies, and related items. 
• Estimates equipment, material, manpower, and time necessary for work completion; sets priorities. Ensures all City safety protocols are followed. Responsible for equipment and inventory control. 
• Ensures that recreation public facilities/structures are maintained in a clean, safe condition. Conserves and preserves natural open space for public enjoyment. Recommending improvements and inspects projects to maintain and restore natural resources in City Parks, undeveloped City/Park lands.
• Plans, coordinates, and supervises comprehensive recreation activities for all age groups. 
• Supervises public contact, liaison work, and preparation/presentation of programs related to recreation service programs.
• Provides information regarding services and programs available through all forms of media.
• Develops, reviews and/or supervises contracts for development, operations, projects, or sponsorships. 
• Supervises development of resources through fundraising, solicitation of donations or co-sponsorships, and obtaining grants to support programs.
• Responsible for administration of revenue generating activities including fee collections, revenue projections, and revenue analysis.
• May develop proposals for methods to enhance the facility or operation with non-traditional funding sources or alternative manpower resources. 
• Researches, evaluates, and recommends new and existing policy and/or organizational changes aimed at organizational development and improvements.
• Aligns program objectives and work plans with the goal of better supporting the department’s cost recovery, fee generation, and financial sustainability targets. 
• Performs other related work, as required. 
• If assigned to fieldwork, possess ability lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects (such as equipment) up to 50 pounds, or heavier weights, in all cases with the use of proper equipment.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education and Experience: Two (2) years of undergraduate coursework from an accredited college or university (equivalent to 60 semester units or 90 quarter units) AND four (4) years increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance and operations of a park or administering recreation programs, including two (2) years in a lead capacity. 

Acceptable Substitution: Additional related experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the required experience. There is no substitution for the lead experience. 

Required Licensing: As a condition of employment in some designated positions, possession of a valid State of California Class B driver's license with applicable endorsements may be required in the performance of job duties.
