Build & Innovate:

• Lead the implementation of the Five Elements Framework—an evidence-based framework developed with leading researchers – in all our alerts and warning initiatives.
• Design multilingual alert systems that reach every community, including those often left behind.
• Integrate cutting-edge technologies: IPAWS, Genasys Protect, AI-powered monitoring, and tools that don't exist yet.
• Develop dashboards and systems that give our partners real-time situational awareness.

Coordinate & Connect:

• Serve as the nexus point between local, state, and federal emergency communication systems.
• Coordinate with 20 cities, 18 unincorporated areas, fire districts, law enforcement, healthcare systems, and community organizations.
• Build relationships with trusted community messengers who can amplify our reach.
• Manage vendor relationships and contracts for emergency notification platforms.

Respond & Adapt:

• Maintain 24-hour readiness and participate in on-call rotation.
• Staff the Emergency Operations Center during activations—from Blue Sky preparedness to Dark Sky crisis.
• Lead after-action reviews that turn every incident into institutional learning.
• Troubleshoot systems under pressure when everything depends on them working.

WHO YOU ARE

• Bachelor's degree in emergency management, public administration, communications, or related field (Master's preferred but not required).
• 5+ years in program planning, emergency management, or crisis communications.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, performs repair, maintenance and alterations of electrical equipment including toll equipment and facilities on the bridge, shops, roadways, administration building and other District offices.

Recreation Leader I/II
The City of Foster City is searching for talented, energetic, responsible individuals who are serious about having fun! If you can think on your feet and be a fun team player, this could be the position for you! As a Recreation Leader, you’ll be responsible for implementing quality youth and teen programs and providing a safe environment for our participants. This is a part-time, seasonal, non-benefited position limited to approximately 20 hours per week and 980 hours in a fiscal year. Level of position will be determined based on the experience (see Education and Training Guidelines). 

Summer Camps
Candidates must commit to working for the entire Summer (June 15, 2026 - August 8, 2026). There will also be a mandatory training for all new and returning staff on June 8, 2026 through June 12, 2026. Work hours will vary between 7:45am – 6:00pm depending on the camp, Monday through Friday. No weekends shifts are available. 

Summer Camps: Kamp Koala, Camp Outback, Camp Way Outback, Camp Breakaway. 

The Vibe Teen Center
We are looking for Recreation Leaders to assist with supervision, lead recreational activities, supervise rentals, and plan special events for teens. This position will start in June and Recreation Leaders must be able to work on a Friday or work a weekend shift each week. Work hours will vary, but typically will be from:

School Year Schedule: Positions are limited.

• Monday - Thursday 3:00pm-6:00pm
• Fridays 3:00pm-9:00pm
• Some weekend shifts are available.

Summer Schedule:

Important and Essential Responsibilities 

• Must be at least 15 years of age to work at Summer Camps and 16 years of age to work at The Vibe.
• Supervise youth and teens in city programming, which may include after school programs, teen center, vacation and summer camps, and special events.

Education and Training Guidelines 
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to qualify would be: 

Recreation Leader I: Completion of eighth grade. No previous experience required. Volunteer or paid experience with groups of children is desirable.

Recreation Leader II: Completion of the ninth grade. Experience as a participant in a variety of recreation activities. Some experience in group leadership is desirable.

Special Requirements 
Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 25 lbs.); complete forms and reports; ability to set-up and coordinate activities; remain calm and use good judgment in difficult and emergency situations; work flexible hours. Physical strength and stamina will be required in some positions to perform demonstrations and leads activities. 

Licenses, Certificates, Registration 

• Certificates: American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety Course or equivalent (including adult, child infant CPR, and Standard First Aid) or ability to obtain at the beginning of employment.
• All successful candidates under age 18 must possess a work permit prior to hire.

Selection Process

DEFINITION

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The City of San Mateo Parks and Recreation Department is looking responsible, enthusiastic, and team-oriented individuals to join our Aquatics Team!

Qualifications:

Applicants must be at least 15 years old and able to obtain a work permit if under the age of 18. Candidates must complete and pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification, by June 1, 2026. While not required, Water Safety Instruction (WSI) certification is highly desirable.

Lifeguard Job Responsibilities:

• Ensure Patron Safety: The primary responsibility of a lifeguard is to protect lives by preventing injuries and accidents. This includes remaining alert and vigilant, actively monitoring the pool and surrounding areas, recognizing hazards early, and responding quickly and effectively to emergencies—including water rescues, CPR, and first aid.
• Enforce Rules Consistently: Lifeguards help patrons stay safe by enforcing facility rules fairly and consistently. This involves monitoring behavior, addressing unsafe actions, and educating patrons about safe practices.
• Maintain a Clean and Safe Facility: Lifeguards assist with daily maintenance and cleanliness of the facility. Tasks may include checking and recording chemical levels, organizing and inspecting equipment (including rescue buoy, Shepard's hook, First Aid pack, etc...), picking up trash and debris, and reporting or addressing unsafe facility conditions.
• Availability: Ability to work a minimum 25 hours a week from June 15th – August 9th, including some weekends. Pre-planned and approved vacation requests may be accommodated.

Swim Instructor Job Responsibilities:

• Provide Instruction Across Levels: Teach swim lesson participants across a range of skill levels, following established curriculum and safety standards.
• Ensure Participant Safety: Maintain constant awareness and create a safe learning environment for all participants within your class.
• Maintain Professional Class Operations: Arrive prepared and work all scheduled hours, begin and end classes on time, stay afterward to answer participant or parent questions, and ensure all equipment and supplies are properly cleaned.
• Assess and Support Student Progress: Instruct, observe, and evaluate students’ skills and progress throughout the session, providing clear feedback and guidance.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Ferry Mechanic performs preventative, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair, and modifications on structural, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, piping and control systems found on ferry vessels and passenger terminals; performs related work as assigned. Day Shift:               $56.32 per hour
Swing Shift:           $56.32 per hour + 10% differential pay
Graveyard Shift:    $56.32 per hour + 15% differential pay

Essential Responsibilities

• Working with computers on a daily basis for work scheduling, work order entry and work order reporting on the Districts electronic maintenance system in addition to notifications and communications.
• Conducts tests, analyses and measurements as directed to diagnose any unusual, erratic or malfunctioning occurrence in any shipboard or terminal system or component.
• Reports any unusual wear patterns, noise, pressure, temperature, or changes in voltage, current, cycles, resistance or any other indication of potential malfunction.
• References manufacturer schematics including blueprints, drawings and specifications to resolve maintenance issues.
• References parts catalogues and other sources to determine correct parts for specific applications.
• Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs and overhauls as directed.
• Documents and records work performed and parts and materials used in the electronic maintenance system.
