THE POSITION: The City of Campbell is currently recruiting for a School Crossing Guard position.

Be an important member of a successful team of individuals committed to the safety of school children in our community. School Crossing Guards work approximately 15-20 hours per week during the regular school year. School Crossing Guards are assigned to designated locations in the City of Campbell assisting elementary and junior high school students to safely cross the streets.

SALARY: $16.00-$23.00 Hourly

HOURS: 15-20 Hours per week

TYPICAL DUTIES: • Assist school children to safely cross streets • Report crimes, violations, accidents, or injuries • Assist the public

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Must be at least 18 years of age • Must have ability to get transportation to different post locations in Campbell • Must not have any dangerous criminal convictions • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures • Must be able to communicate clearly with city personnel, pedestrians and motorists • Must be able to work different shift hours, and all school year • Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions • Must have a sense of responsibility for the safety of children.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Recreation Leader II position reports to the Recreation Coordinator, and in the absence of a Recreation Coordinator, may report to the Recreation Leader III position. The position is responsible for: organizing, setting up, administering, and monitoring a variety of recreation activities and programs with a focus on programs and events for adults and seniors. Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to: participant processing, room set up/break down, program evaluation, activity monitoring, lunch program assistance and special event planning and organizing.

This position is also responsible for maintaining communication with the public, in addition to ensuring safety procedures are followed. The Recreation Leader II position must be able to work with fellow staff members to assist with the implementation of recreational activities and perform other related duties as needed or assigned.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: The following statements are intended as general illustrations of the work for this specific position.

1. Assist with day-to-day operations of the Senior Center and the Satellite Senior Program.
2. Evaluate Senior programs, classes and provides input to the Recreation Coordinator. 
3. Provide quality customer service to participants.
4. Assist with participant processing, activity registration, including collecting and processing fees.
5. Prepare and/or coordinate publicity materials.
6. Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other city employees and members of the public.
7. Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public in a timely manner; in addition to providing information about programs and events.

8. Cover front desk responsibilities as needed.
9. Provide clerical support through answering telephones, and maintaining correspondence with other divisions or agencies.
10. Maintain confidentiality of information, either written or spoken.
11. Report any issues, problems or hazards to the Recreation Coordinator.
12. Follow safety procedures.
13. Respond calmly and efficiently in emergency situations.
14. Engage and motivate participants.
15. Independently initiate and complete work activities.
16. Other Recreation & Community Services duties as assigned.

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE OF: The principles, practices and technology used in the planning and implementation of recreation and community services.  This includes customer service experience, familiarity with trends and programs geared toward the mature adult and senior population.

SKILL AND ABILITY TO: Respond effectively to citizen needs; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others; maintain accurate, organized and complete records; use basic computer applications including Microsoft Office and CIVICRec to prepare reports, press releases, and other written information; effectively communicate with others and assimilate and understand information; work in a variety of conditions including indoor, outdoors, standing, sitting, alone, and in the proximities of others; work irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND GENERAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, bend, and walk about the facilities or program sites while performing the duties.  Repetitive hand and arm motion, and fine finger manipulation in the use of a computer. Moderate physical effort required, including lifting up to 25 pounds.  May be exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes and noise while carrying out regular duties.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

• Completion of at least one year of college (Kinesiology, Recreation or Public Admin preferred)
• 2+ years of experience in a Recreation & Community Services Department
• Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism at all times
• Effective written and verbal communications skills and strong problem solving skills
• Effective computer skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
• Knowledge of physical fitness and trends for mature adults is highly desirable
• Experience with Recreation registration software, particularly CIVICRec, is preferred
• First Aid / CPR / AED certification and training is highly desirable

OTHER INFORMATION

Temporary employees are non-benefited, at-will positions. Since the City does not participate in Social Security and is required to provide an alternative retirement plan, you are required to participate in the City's defined contribution retirement plan through Nationwide where 3.75% of your gross compensation per pay period is deducted and put into the plan. The City matches this 3.75% for a total contribution of 7.5% of your gross compensation per pay period.

COMPENSATION:
This is a part-time, temporary position. Approximately 15-20 hours per week.
$16.75 to $18.75 hourly DOE

ABOUT THE POSITION
City of Gilroy is recruiting for Recreation Leader positions for the Gilroy Youth Center.  At this time, there are two (2) positions to be filled.  The main goal of the Recreation Division is to offer excellent recreation programs that provide community members with a wide-range of opportunities to celebrate life and community through people, parks, programs, and special events which are delivered by a team of employees dedicated to offering quality recreational, social, and cultural services to all Gilroy residents.
 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under direct supervision of a Recreation Coordinator or Recreation Specialist and indirect supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, assist, plan, organize, and lead the physical, recreational, and social activities of assigned recreation programs.  Program areas include, but are not limited to, Adaptive (Special Needs), Adult and/or Youth sports, After School Program, Cultural Arts, Facility Attendant, Senior Center, Special Events, Summer Camps, and Youth Center/Youth Services.  This position may be a year round part-time position or seasonal position, depending on the recreation program. As related experience is gained as noted in the job qualifications and requirements, and with the recommendation in the employee's performance evaluation, Recreation Leaders can advance from Recreation Leader I to Recreation Leader II or from Recreation Leader II to Recreation Leader III.  As the employee advances through the job series the employee will take on more responsibility and more challenging work assignments.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK: 
The following are examples of work that apply to all Recreation Leaders though some work may vary based on assigned program areas.

1. Assist and/or lead in organizing a wide variety of programs and activities to meet the recreational, educational, physical, and social needs in the community. Expect to work with multiple age groups such as children, teenagers, adults and seniors.
2. Observe program areas to insure cleanliness and safe, proper use of facilities and equipment.
3. Participate in related training programs and staff meetings.
4. Perform a variety of clerical and administrative support functions for assigned program area as needed.
5. Render first aid in the event of injury.
6. Perform related work as required and may be asked to do the following:
   1. Issue and collect equipment.
   2. Setup and tear-down for programming
   3. Provide elementary instruction in arts and crafts, recreation, and sports activities.
   4. Keep activity and attendance records.
   5. May keep score at athletic events.
   6. Prepare field for various organized games.
   7. Serve as an attendant during a facility reservation.
7. Drive City vehicle as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Recreation Leader II:

1. Sixteen (16) years of age or older at date of hire.
2. One year of paid experience working in a recreation program-type setting.
3. Experience supervising children, teens, adults, and/or seniors preferred.
4. Experience communicating with parents and the general public preferred.

Recreation Leader III:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Two years of paid experience working in a recreation program-type setting.
3. Must have experience supervising children, teens, adults, and/or seniors.
4. Must have experience communicating with parents and the general public.

Recreation Leaders (All Levels):

1. Valid tuberculosis (TB) Certificate.
2. May be required to possess and maintain a valid California Driver License along with a safe driving record necessary to operate assigned vehicle(s).
3. Possess (within 12 months of hire) and maintain a valid First Aid and CPR/AED certification.
4. Pass a pre-employment drug test.
5. Pass an employment background check including a Department of Justice criminal record check.
6. Prefer non-tobacco user.
7. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Clerical Assistant II provides administrative support to the Recreation & Community Services Department, which includes program registration, facility reservations, recordkeeping, customer interaction and point of sale. Duties include responding to phone, mail, email and in-person inquiries, as well as requests from citizens, employees and other City departments. The Clerical Assistant II performs receptionist duties, including: typing, word processing, use of computer programs and applications, recordkeeping, organizing and compiling data, filing, computerized data entry, organizing calendars, working efficiently and effectively within the Recreation & Community Services Department and other departments with minimal supervision and with outstanding customer service. May act as a lead over an Clerical Assistant I incumbent.

DEFINITION: Under general supervision, performs lifeguard duties, enforces all rules and regulations pertaining to the safety and well-being of visitors and patrons. Perform related work as required, may include light cleaning and janitorial.

The Department

The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

The Position

Recreation Specialist I is the entry level for this job class responsible for delivering a wide variety of Recreation and Community Services programs to City residents.  We’re looking for highly-motivated people with a customer service orientation who genuinely enjoy helping others and who are flexible problem-solvers. This job class includes a number of specialization assignments covering a variety of recreation roles, programs and facilities to which the incumbent will be assigned. • Marina: If you enjoy the Waterfront and want to work with a team creating a wonderful Waterfront District, this may be the job for you.  Duties include light maintenance, cleaning, money collection, and presenting great customer service towards our marina users and guests. • Youth Sports:  Work as a team with youth ages 2-17 in a fun sports environment.  Volleyball, basketball, soccer, flag football and pee wee sports just to name a few.  Duties include coaching, officiating, site facilitation, score keeping and equipment management.

This temporary, non-benefited, at-will classification performs a variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance of parks, grounds, trees, recreational facilities, public grounds, storm sewers, sidewalks, medians, street signs and markings, and repair and upkeep of streets. Operates maintenance and construction equipment; and does related work as required.

Duties: Performs or learns to perform a variety of parks and streets maintenance tasks including watering, mowing, edging, weeding, spraying, trimming, pruning, planting and removing flowers, plants, trees and turf; maintenance and reconstruction of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, storm drains, pavement and pavement markings; assists with the installation of park, street and recreation related facilities; operates or is trained to operate park and street maintenance equipment and motor vehicles such as dump trucks, water trucks, backhoes/loaders, forklifts, sprayers, chippers, power mowers, edgers, hand tools, rollers, asphalt breakers, airless and air operated paint machines, air compressors, generators, hand tools and related equipment; performs routine maintenance work in the care of tools and supplies; assists with the installation and maintenance of traffic control and informational devices; may be required to work weekends or holidays or in the event of emergencies; and performs other related work as required.

The Position: The City of Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking motivated, energetic, team-oriented individuals who enjoy working with youth and possess proficient swimming skills.

Responsibilities: Under direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, is responsible for maintaining safety in and around swimming pools; conducting rescue operations; administering Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillation (AED); interacting professionally and communicate effectively with swimmers of all ages and the general public; writing reports; and preparing the pool for aquatic programs.

Qualifications:

• Minimum age at time of hire is 16 years old.
• American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, AED and Lifeguard Training certified preferred.

Selection Process: The most qualified applicants as determined by initial screening of applications will be invited to participate in an interview and lifeguard skills practical testing. Selections will be made from the results of the interviews and skills testing. Tuberculosis test results must be submitted prior to scheduled employment.
