The Dixon Fire Department is looking to fill a full-time vacancy for a Fire Captain and to establish an eligibility list for any future vacancies. This position coordinates and directs advanced firefighting activities, emergency medical aids, emergency rescue and other emergency and prevention activities, in protecting life and property; oversees subordinate personnel engaged in training, station and equipment maintenance; assists and participates in training programs; drives, operates and maintains all fire apparatus and equipment. Performs related work and other duties as required.

The Redwood City Fire Department is seeking individuals for the position of Cadet Firefighter. The Cadet Firefighter Program is designed to allow students an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of fire department operations. Fire Department Cadets spend a minimum of 48 hours and a maximum of 96 hours per month at the firehouse, participating in calls for service, station duties, and training. Cadets will also be expected to attend department-sponsored community functions outside of their 96-hour monthly commitment. Though the goal is to immerse the cadet into all aspects of fire department life, they are not allowed to participate in situations deemed Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH).

This Fire Cadet position is a non-benefited volunteer position.

The Department

The City’s Volunteer Fire Department is older than the City itself, founded as a volunteer corps in 1861 to replace a U.S. Army fire brigade. The largest volunteer urban Fire Department in California has undergone change to become a combination department, composed of both paid and volunteer staff. In addition, the department provides Advance Life Support (ALS) services and responds to over 3,000 calls for service annually. Staffing includes a Fire Chief, one Deputy Chief, one Fire Marshal, six Fire Captains, six Fire Engineers, an Administrative Assistant and 10 Reserve Volunteer Firefighters. Dispatch is staffed through the Public Safety Dispatch Center housed at the Police Department. Ambulance services are handled through a countywide contract. The Position

The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented problem-solver with a focus on public service. Recruits enter a training program to develop skills necessary to demonstrate abilities to respond to emergency fire and medical alarms, to protect life and property, to participate in fire suppression training and emergency medical training, to assist with station, apparatus and equipment maintenance, and to do related work as required. Volunteers are required to participate in a minimum of two 24 hour shifts or four 12 hour day shifts each month and complete assigned training.

The City of San José is hiring an Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Services (PBCS) Technical Lead (Enterprise Supervising Technology Analyst) to provide technical support for Oracle PBCS which is used to prepare the City's Capital, Operating, and Revenue Budgets. The PBCS Technical Lead will also support the three custom budget applications: Fees and Charges, Ordinance Tracking, and Budget to Finance ERP Interface and the Budget Office (BO). The BO is responsible for developing and managing the City's operating and capital budgets and service fees and charges. This position requires strong technical hands-on experience and leadership skills, as well as the ability to take initiative and lead others. We are seeking an individual who is willing to adapt to an ever-changing environment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical and functional background supporting Oracle PBCS and/or Oracle Hyperion Planning, and multi-dimensional databases with strong analytical skills. In addition, development experience using .NET Framework, Java, or JavaScript to effectively manage and support custom-developed applications is essential. Expertise should cover the entire system implementation lifecycle including gathering business requirements, creating functional and technical designs, application development, and administration.

The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighter Trainees who, under immediate supervision, actively participate in the Firefighter Academy training program. Trainees perform all related learning and testing activities in preparation for the Firefighter/Engineer classification within the Fire Department of the City of Redwood City.  See Firefighter Trainee job description for more details. Upon successful completion of the Firefighter Academy training program and Field Training Orientation (FTO/Apprentice), incumbents of this non-sworn classification may be appointed to the sworn classification of Firefighter/Engineer and serve a probationary period of eighteen (18) months. The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighters or Firefighter/Paramedics who, under direction of the Fire Captain, will perform firefighting and fire prevention duties aimed at protecting life and property, operate and maintain firefighting equipment, and provide basic medical assistance.  Firefighters also provide Basic Life Support first responder pre-hospital emergency medical care and emergency medical assistance, perform minor station maintenance, and participate in training to maintain skills.  Please see the Firefighter/Engineer job description for more details.

Required Qualifications:

A typical way to demonstrate the applicant possesses the required knowledge and ability may be obtained through the following ways:

1. Minimum of 30 semester college units.  Completion of college credits in the study of Fire Science or similar field.
2. High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D. or California Certificate of Proficiency).
3. Successful completion of a Firefighter 1 equivalent training program, or possession of a California State Fire Training Firefighter 1 certificate.

Required Certification and License:

1. Must possess a valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate or valid Paramedic license.
2. Provide proof of a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPT) certificate prior to appointment to the classification of Firefighter/Engineer.  CPAT must be current.
3. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.  Driving record will be reviewed and any infractions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Knowledge of:

• Basic life support

Ability To:

• Act in accordance with departmental policies, rules, and instructions in the field of firefighting.
• Apply principles practices and procedures of modern firefighting.
• Safely operate fire apparatus, equipment, tools, devices, facilities and use properly.
• Perform tasks relating to firefighting, medical aid and other calls for assistance.
• Maintain an Emergency Medical Technician Certification as required by the State of California.
• Act appropriately in emergency situations.
• Understand and follow oral and written directions promptly and accurately.
• Analyze fire and emergency situations and adopt effective courses of action.
• Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Operate and maintain voice radio equipment, and a computer terminal or personal computer.
• Drive and operate fire apparatus and motor vehicles proficiently and safely.

Special Requirements - Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:

• Must be eighteen years of age;
• Vision Standards: Must pass a pre-employment medical exam according to the standards set by The National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and freedom from color blindness;
• Hearing Standards: Must pass a pre-employment medical exam according to NFPA;
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, lift and carry in excess of 100 lbs.; pull and/or drag 175 lbs.; work in the following environments: cold, extreme heat, extreme noise, outdoors, confining work spaces, elevated areas; work with electrical hazards, vibration, chemicals, dust, toxic waste, mechanical hazards, and explosive materials; availability for shift work.
• This position shall serve a probationary period of eighteen (18) months.
• As a condition of employment, employees shall comply with mandated medical monitoring.
