The City of Sebastopol is seeking a problem-solving, inclusive, collaborative, and good communicator professional with an understanding of engineering principles and terminology, the ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics, strong mathematical skills for calculations and measurements, and familiarity with industry standards and safety protocols for the role of Engineering Technician I/II.

This position performs various tasks in the office and field, both technical and administrative, supporting the Public Works Department and the City Engineer. The Engineering Technician I/II will be the primary contact person providing assistance and referrals to visitors at the City’s Corporation Yard. The incumbent may be assigned duties related to compliance programs and reporting, engineering projects, and capital projects, which may include project management, development and plan review, calculating fees, issuance of permits, maintaining plan files and engineering records, field surveys, site inspections, information gathering, data analysis, performing mark and locate functions, participating in surveying activities, or other areas as needed. The City of Sebastopol is seeking an engaging, inclusive, collaborative, and talented leader who is well-versed in engineering principles and practices, project management, facility and infrastructure maintenance, water distribution and wastewater collection systems, public parks and facilities maintenance, laws, regulations, and safety standards. The Director of Public Works/ City Engineer serves as the City Engineer and coordinates assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies.

This position plans, organizes, directs, and reviews the full range of activities and operations of the Department of Public Works, including engineering design, public works construction and inspection, repair and maintenance of City infrastructure and streets, and transportation programs. The Redwood City Fire Department is seeking individuals for the position of Cadet Firefighter. The Cadet Firefighter Program is designed to allow students an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of fire department operations. Fire Department Cadets spend a minimum of 48 hours and a maximum of 96 hours per month at the firehouse, participating in calls for service, station duties, and training. Cadets will also be expected to attend department-sponsored community functions outside of their 96-hour monthly commitment. Though the goal is to immerse the cadet into all aspects of fire department life, they are not allowed to participate in situations deemed Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH).

Ability to hire at Mechanic I or Mechanic II level based on relevant experience. Under supervision (Mechanic I) or general supervision (Mechanic II), participates in the more complex and difficult work of staff responsible for maintaining and repairing City vehicles and equipment; maintains and repairs gasoline, diesel powered, compressed natural gas (CNG), and electric automotive, heavy and light construction, and other power-driven equipment; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Education:

Experience:

Mechanic I: One year of experience performing minor and major equipment repairs.

Mechanic II: Two years of experience performing minor and major equipment repair duties including experience in the maintenance of both diesel and gas powered equipment.

License/Certificate:

Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months of employment, a valid California Class A driver’s license with Passenger Endorsement. Possession of ASE certifications are desirable.

THE POSITION:

Under the general supervision of the Youth & Family Services Clinical Supervisor and the Community Services Manager, the Intervention Counselor provides crisis intervention, individual and family counseling; identifies appropriate referral services to youth, families and individuals.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

Intervention Counselor is a journey-level professional classification. Incumbents perform the full range of counseling duties within the Community Services division. Incumbents in this position receive occasional instruction as new or unusual situations arise. The Intervention Counselor is distinguished from the Clinical Supervisor in that the latter is responsible for overseeing clinical work, providing direct supervision to clinical staff and interns, responsible for ensuring counselors follow professional guidelines, establishes processes and procedures for the clinical side of the division, researches and provides appropriate training, and is the primary liaison with the school district and police department in regard to referrals, counseling, and crisis support. While the Intervention Counselor provides direct counseling, run group counseling and workshops, and provides intervention services and supportive tools and resources to clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Duties may include but are not limited to the following: 

• Provide individual, family and group counseling to children, adolescents, and adults using a variety of therapeutic and counseling techniques. 
• Provide crisis intervention services around a variety of issues including: incorrigible youth/status offenders, child/adult abuse, domestic violence, trauma, individuals experiencing mental health issues, and families in conflict; may conduct visits at homes, schools, and juvenile detention centers. 
• Conduct assessments to identify appropriate resources, provide referral services and connect clients with additional services as needed.
• May receive, process and track all incoming case management, outreach, and counseling referrals as needed.
• Represent the City of Union City in the name of AC Probation, Centro de Servicios, Tiburcio Vazquez, Malabar House/Eden Counseling Services, NHUSD school administrators – principals, teachers, student services staff, UC Family Center,  Fremont Resource Center, (Fresh Lives for Youth (FLY), Filipinos  Advocates For Justice (FAFJ), MidPen Housing, Bay Area Community Health (BACH),  Safe Alternatives To Violent Environments (SAVE) to continue to develop and maintain relationships with these social welfare agencies and organizations. 
• Prepare and give presentations to youth, parents and community members.
• Conduct outreach to promote programs and services.
• Generate and maintain appropriate records, client files, and accurate statistical/monthly reports.
• Participate in weekly and monthly department and community meetings, trainings, and workshops as necessary.
• May provide guidance and clinical support to non-clinical staff who engage with clients. 
• Develop and implement new processes and procedures as needed.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Public Works Department is seeking a full-time Parks Maintenance Supervisor.   This position will supervise and perform work in park maintenance, such as mowing, irrigation, pruning, planting, cleaning, improvement and repair of City parks, recreational areas, park buildings, street islands, swimming pools and related facilities.  Work includes setting priorities, assigning and reviewing the work of crew members.   

UPCOMING PROJECTS:

• Construction begins this fall on a new synthetic turf field at Al Boro Community Center.  The Parks Department will be responsible for the care and maintenance of the field after installation.  This is the only synthetic turf field in our park system.  Developing a proper maintenance schedule will be crucial to ensure the longevity of the highly used field.
• The Parks Department is working on a better maintenance solution to the tree wells and tree grates along the downtown corridor.  Many of the trees are outgrowing the tree grates, causing damage to the trees and potential trip hazards for the pedestrians.  The Park Department is exploring options, including installation of porous rubber pavement surfaces. 
• Asset Management software is coming to the maintenance divisions in Public Works to help better manage the maintenance schedules of all of the city-owned assets.  Assisting with the software into the daily routines will be an expectation of Supervisor. 

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

• Is familiar with San Rafael and the different areas it encompasses.
• Has knowledge and experience in all aspects of park and street maintenance.
• Has knowledge and/or experience in assessing tree issues.  ISA certification is a plus.
• Has knowledge and/or experience in California Department of Pesticide Regulations.  QAL or PCA certification is a plus.
• Knowledge and experience with suite of Microsoft Office products.
• Good customer service with the ability to work with the public in difficult situations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

• Identifies and records major project work needed and discuss needs and priorities with supervisor so annual project and program schedules can be developed.
• Plans, lays out, estimates and arranges materials, crew, and equipment required for jobs.
• Establishes short-term work schedules and assigns work to lead workers and grounds workers. 
• Performs the full scope of groundskeeping duties.
• Inspects assigned areas of completed work to assess need for follow up, identify horticultural problems, and determine proper courses of action.

The City of Dixon is opening a great opportunity for those curious to learn about the ins and outs of police work for the position of Police Cadet in the Police Department. Under the supervision of veteran Police Officer's the cadet experiences what it takes to develop important cadet skills. Examples: cadet patrol, traffic control, attending meetings, delivery of witness subpoenas, report taking, provide assistance to the various bureaus within the department, directing phone calls to the appropriate personnel, learns how to interact with the community during all kinds of problem-solving situations.

This is an entry-level, volunteer position intended as an educational and career development internship. In addition to serving a support role within the Police Department, this classification is exposed to a wide variety of law enforcement duties and will gain experience in the work place.

A Cadet volunteers a minimum of 8 hours per month and work is conducted both in a police station and in the field. Work involves irregular, often non-scheduled, hours during the day and evenings, and on the weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
