DEFINITION

Under general supervision, provides a variety of office support activities including customer service, telephone and counter reception, document processing, record keeping, data entry and organization, cashiering, and filing; provides information and assistance to staff and the general public; and performs related work as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from assigned supervisory or management staff. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

Initially, under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform general office support work such as customer service at the front counter and over the phone, file and records maintenance, data entry, and screening phone calls, visitors, and mail, and directing questions to the appropriate staff. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied, complex, and difficult; and positions exercise judgment and initiative in their assigned tasks, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the Administrative Assistant in that the latter performs more advanced technical and specialized administrative support duties requiring additional training and/or experience and is typically assigned to provide administrative assistance in support of a division manager or department head.

 Provides front-line customer service support by greeting customers at the front desk or by telephone.

 Prepares, copies, collates, and distributes a variety of documents; ensures proper filing of copies in Town files.

 Receives, processes, and assists in responding to general department emails and public records requests and other requests for information; organizes information; ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

 Composes, types, formats, and proofreads a variety of documents, including correspondence, letters, memos, agendas, reports, lists, forms, schedules, flyers, event materials, and reports.

 Performs a variety of office support duties such as maintaining websites; scheduling meetings, conferences, and trainings; coordinating food and logistics for meetings; and ordering and maintaining office and other related supplies.

 Performs various accounting support work such as processing, reconciling, and verifying cash and monies received; and processing purchase orders, invoices, payment vouchers, check requests, and reimbursements.

 Performs related duties as assigned.

The Housing Authority of the City of Alameda is looking for a team-oriented professional to work as a Housing Specialist II (HS II) in the Housing Program Department. The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned. The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff. The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. There are numerous programs operating within the facility including medical, kitchen, exercise, commissary, visiting, law library, inmate education, work programs, work furlough program, and inmate classification.

The Dixon Police Department is opening positions for a Police Recruit to attend the Police Academy. The “Police Recruit” classification at the City of Dixon Police Department provides a unique opportunity for candidates to be sponsored through a P.O.S.T. certified basic academy during regular academy hours and any other scheduled departmental and academy exercise and activities.  Upon successfully completing the academy, Police Recruits shall be advanced to Police Officers and immediately begin the field training program to prepare them to function as solo officers.

This position will perform a variety of responsible law enforcement and crime prevention work, including patrolling assigned areas, answering calls and complaints, investigating crimes, serving civil papers, and providing court room security; enforce all federal and state laws and local ordinances related to public safety and welfare.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Performs routine patrol duties, including but not limited to patrolling assigned areas of the County; responding to emergency calls and/or public calls for assistance; investigating disturbances, prowlers, burglaries, thefts, vehicle accidents and other crimes; checking buildings for physical security, etc.

• Administers first aid in emergency situations.

• Works with other law enforcement agencies in matters related to the investigation of crimes and apprehension of offenders.

• Participates in other special projects and programs as assigned.

• Performs duties related to crime prevention and community relations.

This position performs a variety of work in the monitoring of county, state and federal detainees and maintains the security and safety of inmates and staff.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Performs booking procedures, including receiving, booking and assigning prisoners to cells; performing body searches; fingerprinting, and photographing prisoners, etc.
• Maintains custody of prisoners’ private property.
• Maintains the safe and orderly operation of the County jail facility; monitors security cameras and door warning lights; screens and monitors visitors. Inspects all of inmates’ incoming and outgoing mail and telegrams.
• Inspects facilities regularly.
• Monitors the condition and activities of prisoners.
• Prepares prisoners for court appearances; provides transportation as necessary.

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

The Police Office Assistant is a journey-level position, fully competent to independently perform a variety of office support duties. All positions are characterized by the presence of fairly clear guidelines from which to make decisions and the availability of supervision in non- routine circumstances. Specific duties, including the amount of typing, word processing, and use of on-line or personal computers, will vary with the organization unit to which assigned.
