Office Assistant for Recreation and Community Programs

The City of Menlo Park is a great place to work! Office Assistants provide a variety of office support activities to an assigned program or division. Office Assistants are expected to provide professional and courteous customer service at all times; greet and assist program visitors; answer the telephone in a courteous and professional manner; provide accurate information and answer general questions or forward calls to appropriate staff. Office Assistants also are tasked to open and secure assigned facilities; set up, arrange, and take furniture and equipment and ensure set up is in accordance with customer needs and requests for classes, rentals, meetings, and special events; monitor the proper and safe use of City facilities by the general public and ensure adherence to rules and policies; ensure the cleanliness and safety of facilities throughout the day. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency with word processing, data entry and organization, telephone and counter reception, record keeping, verbal and written communication, and customer service.

Currently, the City is preparing to open a brand-new, state-of-the-art multi-service center known as the Belle Haven Community Campus. This new campus is on track to open soon and will feature a senior center, youth center, recreation center, gymnasium, swim center and branch library. THE DEPARTMENT

The Community Development department is responsible for ensuring a sustainable and vibrant community that supports a high quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors. It includes the Building, Planning and Housing divisions, and core services include building permits, plan check, inspections, affordable housing administration and housing initiatives, as well as long-range planning and development review. The Building Division is responsible for managing the building permit, plan check and inspection processes for compliance with all applicable State laws, local municipal codes and related policies involving building construction, which requires a high level of customer service with the public and coordination within and across departments and agencies.

THE POSITION

The Building Official oversees the development of programs, projects, operations, and services of the Building Division, and is a part of the Community Development management team. This position will manage a 13-member team, including a Permit Manager, Building Permit Technicians, Plan Check Engineer, and Building Inspectors, and will receive general direction from the Assistant Community Development Director or the Community Development Director. Successful performance in this role requires professional and technical skills in the core functional areas of permitting, plan checking and building inspections, as well as knowledge of public policy and municipal services, and excellence in communication and leadership. The individual must be able to assess the current needs of the department and look for innovative ways to help the department advance to improve service delivery and meet the changing needs of the community. This will require guiding modifications to the City’s land management permitting system (Accela) to improve processes, enhance customer service and monitor data.

With the adoption of the General Plan Update in 2016 and, most recently, the Housing Element zoning-related changes, the City is expected to see physical change as plans come to fruition. A key priority for this position will be overseeing the building permit process for a diverse range of projects from tenant improvements to new single-family residential construction to hotels to large-scale, comprehensive planned mixed-use campuses. Currently, the City has approximately 775 residential units and 260,000 square feet of life science uses under construction, with over 2,000 residential units, two hotels and more than 1.8 million square feet of commercial square footage approved, but not yet under construction, along with a number of large development projects currently under review. The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Building Inspector to provide building construction inspections. Depending on the applicant qualifications, the position will be filled at the appropriate level/salary of either a Building Inspector I or Building Inspector II.

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for Extra Help-Cook within the Yuba County Jail. Under close supervision, prepares and provides institutional meals following federal and state nutritional guidelines, and performs other duties as assigned.  Yuba County staffs the Cook classification at the County Jail division in the Sheriff’s department  This position performs a full range of tasks associated with the preparation and distribution of meals to juvenile detainees and adult inmates.  The incumbent ensures that properly prepared nutritional meals are produced in a large volume, institutional setting.  Responsibilities also include overseeing detainees and/or inmates and institution workers assisting with food preparation. 

For successful performance, the incumbent would be required to have knowledge of principles, methods and equipment used in high volume meal preparation in an institutional setting; basic food groups and nutritional values; safe work practices related to food preparation, storage and service; basic business arithmetic; and basic inventory and record keeping principles and practices. Skill in overseeing and preparing meals in a large scale, institutional setting; overseeing and training others in basic cooking and work procedures; operating, cleaning and performing minor maintenance to large institutional food preparation and cooking equipment; maintaining accurate records and preparing work related reports; directing others in work procedures; and reading, understanding and following recipes and oral and written directions. POSITION

Under general supervision, provides highly responsible administrative support to the City Clerk to assist with the day-to-day operations of the City Clerk’s Office. This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Work schedule is flexible up to 30 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) team of the Human Services Agency (HSA) of San Mateo County is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Rehabilitation Production Supervisor I/II. This current vacancy is a permanent position assigned in Catering Connection and/or the WorkCenter program. The position is a shared assignment and will be scheduled weekly to work in Catering Connection and/or the WorkCenter. The schedule of this position will vary and include weekends depending on the needs of the departments.
 
Under supervision, Rehabilitation Production Supervisor I/II will perform a variety of support activities and supervise the operation of Vocational Rehabilitation Services’ Catering Connection, and WorkCenter. Join the City of Berkeley's Planning and Development Department in its effort to protect the health, safety, and welfare of citizens by enforcing building codes and regulations. As a Certified Building Inspector I or II, you will perform skilled inspection work in the enforcement of building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, zoning and related codes and regulations that govern new building and housing construction, additions, alterations, repairs and use of existing buildings. This work includes resolving problems and complaints to final resolution.

These classifications differ in that the Building Inspector I works under closer supervision and performs less complex inspection work than the Building Inspector II.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities is:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and experience as specified below.

• Building Inspector I:
  • One year of full-time experience as a building inspector with a public agency, OR
  • Four years of full-time experience as a journey level carpenter, electrician, plumber, building plans examiner, public works inspector or permit specialist, OR
  • Three years of full-time experience in the building construction field as a licensed general, plumbing, electrical or mechanical contractor, OR
  • Completion of a two year AA program or equivalent in construction technology or a related field and a minimum of four ICC certificates including building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical.
• Building Inspector II:
  • Three years of full time experience in building inspection work with a public agency.

Other requirements include possession of a valid International Code Council (ICC) Commercial and Residential Building Inspector Certificate or equivalent. In addition, Building Inspector II requires possession of a valid ICC Commercial and Residential Electrical Inspector Certification or equivalent. Equivalency shall be determined by the building official in accordance with state law. Required certifications must be maintained as a condition of employment.

Incumbents in both positions must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, maintenance of a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.
