ABOUT THE POSITION: Under general supervision, provide instruction and assistance to visitors in the fitness center, enforces all rules and regulations pertaining to the safety and well being of all patrons. Perform related work as required.

Fitness Floor Shift times: Monday-Friday 3:30-6:30pm

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: The following duties are essential to the success of this position: • Learn basic operation instruction for fitness equipment and teach these techniques to visitors.

• Monitor guests activities in the fitness center • Clean, sanitize and ensure that fitness equipment is working properly • Organize and ensure that fitness floor is orderly, and all equipment is stored safely • Enforce all rules, regulations, and safety principals • Answer any general questions from patrons and providing information on fitness programs • Assume assigned duties connected with care and maintenance of facility • Maintain certain fitness center records and reports as required • Deal tactfully and courteously with the public • Respond professionally to emergencies • Perform related duties as required

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, abilities and CPR within 3 months of hire.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Candidates receiving a conditional job offer must pass a pre-placement fingerprint review. Candidates must be comfortable calling 911 in an emergency and providing care according to the level of training.

Special Events Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

The Position: Special Events Attendants work behind the scenes making all Recreation and Community Services excel! Duties may include, depending on program assignment(s): interacting with the public and vendors participating in recreation and community activities; assisting with planning and leading program activities as needed; facilitating arts, crafts, games, and sports; performing participant check-in, reception duties and cash handling duties; assisting with large equipment (stage and booth) set-up, take down and housekeeping; opening and closing facilities. As experience is gained, may provide administrative and onsite program support; assisting with training, leading, scheduling and directing staff; organizing and directing event activities for the community; preparing written and verbal reports and correspondence which may include drafting advertisements and social media posts for Coordinator review; requisition of supplies; and facility equipment upkeep. We’re looking for highly motivated people with a customer service orientation who genuinely enjoy helping others and who are flexible problem-solvers.

The Greater Vallejo Recreation District is a Special Service District that has been serving area residents for over sixty years. As a Special Service District, GVRD operates as a separate government agency from the City of Vallejo. GVRD manages 407 acres of public park space including 20 neighborhood parks, 10 community parks, 6 special purpose parks, and Olympic-size swimming pool and 4 community centers.  GVRD maintains over 1,000 acres of public land. 

GVRD is governed by a five-member Board of Directors. With 30 plus full time and approximately 155 part-time and seasonal employees, GVRD operates on a 2019-2020 fiscal year budget of $7.9 million for general fund operations and Measure K funding amounting to $2.2 million.  The Measure K funding is being utilized to purchase necessary equipment, improve parks, facilities.

Job Description:

DEFINITION
Under supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, this position manages Recreation staff, programmatic leadership, assigned area budget, and cross departmental collaboration. Top candidates will assist full-time and part-time staff with all Recreation related needs, community outreach, and perform a variety of technical tasks as directed.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED EXERCISED

• Receive immediate supervision from higher level Recreation staff. Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a regular group of employees (1 or more full and part-time employees) including providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/ effectiveness, performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed. 

ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS- Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:

• Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
• Plans, organizes, schedules, promotes, evaluates, and leads recreational activities in area of assignment.
• Reviews applications and enters reservations in recreation software. Schedules meetings with customers/general public, processes permits and payments, assists with event layouts, and enforces rules and regulations.
• Ensures the safety of equipment, building, and surrounding areas through inspections and takes action to resolve any issues.
• Monitors budget revenues and expenditures. Completes monthly cash flow report and annual end of year report. Proposes new fiscal year budget and justifications.
• Responsible for preparation of programmatic annual budget and justifications.
• Respond to questions, complaints, and emergency situations. Takes appropriate courses of action and notifies supervisor whenever necessary.
• Prepare a variety of administrative and financial reports on activities and operations. Orders supplies, as needed.  Maintains records and invoices.
• Develops a strategic action plan for area of responsibility incorporated as part of the development and implementation of Division and District goals and objectives.
• Completes activity guide list and proposes new programs for the organization. Markets and advertises for new programs.
• Collects fees for classes and/or programs. Issues receipts, balances and reconciles accounts, and  submits to Finance Department.
• Performs related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• English grammar, spelling, and punctuation

• Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment, including applicable software
• Principles, practices and procedures utilized in administering recreation, leisure services, and community service programs

Experience and Education Guidelines:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain knowledge and ability would be:

Experience:

• Associate's Degree or two (2) years of College in Business, Public Administration, Event Planning or a related technical discipline
• Three (3) to five (5) years' experience in project, program, and/or event management
• Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities

Required Licenses or Certifications

• American Red Cross First Aid and CPR
• Possession of valid California driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

• This position is relative free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards and requires medium physical effort. Incumbents may be required to exert up to up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Typical work week is eight (8) hour days, five (5) days a week. However, depending on needs, incumbents may be assigned an irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.
TRAVEL
Incumbent may need to travel in this role. Travel may include but is not limited to various GVRD sites within the district, training sites outside the district, community partners, or other job-related locations.

Program hours are M-F PM 8:30am – 1:00pm and/or MWF 8:30am - 1:00pm. Approximately 15 – 30 hours a week. Substitute and floating positions also available 8:30am - 1:00pm.

• Assists in the development, coordination, planning, implementing and supervising the day-to-day activities, themes and special events for an ongoing preschool program.
• Create and maintain a safe, challenging and creative environment.
• Supervise and engage preschool students during preschool hours.
