The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Assistant to the City Attorney! In this role, you will provide highly responsible and specialized administrative and analytical and support within the City Attorney’s Office. You'll perform sensitive, complex, and difficult analytical work as a member of the City Attorney’s staff, including providing analytical support on issues that have significant city or community implications.

Duties may include budget preparation and administration, contract negotiation and administration, and policy research and analysis. You may also provide more routine administrative support to the City Attorney as needed.

The Assistant to the City Attorney has considerable latitude to exercise independent judgment, particularly when representing the City Attorney’s Office in meetings with other agencies, boards, commissions, and community groups.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this classification is:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in business administration, public administration, or related field and four (4) years of increasingly responsible analytical experience that included the development and administration of programs. Government experience desirable.

Must be willing and able to attend evening meetings. Specified positions may require possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

The Aging and Adult Services Division of San Mateo County Health is seeking a Deputy Public Guardian Conservatorship Investigator III (DPG). The position is on the Probate Conservatorship Investigation team and is the intake section of the San Mateo County Public Guardian program.

 

The team receives referrals from all sources, for individuals who are no longer able to make decisions for themselves due to a disabling condition other than mental health. The probate conservatorship investigators conduct a very involved inquiry into the individual's past and present life to prove to the court that there are no other alternatives to conservatorship that will allow the individual to continue to live independently in the community. Conservatorship is a very invasive process as it removes most of an individual's rights. Therefore, it is as a last resort that a petition for conservatorship is filed with the Superior Court.

 

The current vacancy is in the Aging and Adult Services Division located in San Mateo, but will drive to visit clients at various locations, attend meetings, and perform various duties of the position. This person will report to the Supervising Deputy Public Guardian of Aging and Adult Services.

DPG's have responsibility for managing estates and providing casework services. They administer complex property and litigation cases, prepare complex court reports and testify in Court as needed and may develop comprehensive care plans. DPG III's also provide lead direction and training to other deputies, serve as liaisons with specific County and State department and community agencies, handle those cases that present the greatest liability to the client and/or the County, and may provide 24-hour emergency response services.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

Three years experience coordinating the care and managing the income and assets of frail elderly and gravely disabled persons.

What You’ll Do

The Community Services Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and supervising the leisure, cultural, and human services activities of the Division and providing highly responsible professional and technical staff assistance. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Plan, organize, coordinate and direct the work of subordinates in developing and implementing a broad and diversified community recreation and human services program.
• Participate as a member of the community-based network of Human Services Agencies.
• Develop and implement changes in staffing, goals, objectives, policies and procedures to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
• Develop programs of service to meet community needs including plans for efficient and economical use of labor, buildings, equipment and materials.
• Attend meetings of and prepare reports for Commissions and Advisory Groups; provide technical and professional advice and recommendations relating to recreation and human services.

The Controller's Office is currently seeking well-qualified candidates for the position of Payroll Personnel Coordinator IV - Confidential.

 

The mission of the Controller's Office is to promote the County's operational effectiveness and ensure its financial transparency and integrity by providing quality accounting, audit, and financial reporting services.

 

The Controller's Office maintains the County’s financial systems and records, and prepares independently audited, award-winning annual financial reports that disclose the financial condition of the County to the public. We are staffed with 51 full-time accounting, audit, and information systems professionals. The office also calculates annual property tax bill amounts, distribute taxes collected to local government agencies, performs internal audits of County’s operations, and provides payroll services for the County's workforce.

 

Under general supervision, provides technical and specialized payroll and/or personnel-related support to a large and complex County department and/or division(s) or perform payroll and/or personnel-related functions at a Countywide level with responsibilities for reviewing, correcting and instructing the work of other Coordinators; coordinate human resources, payroll and/or timekeeping processes; maintain personnel-related records; provide information to management and employees regarding payroll and personnel-related matters; and perform related work as required.

 

Distinguishing Characteristics

Payroll/Personnel Coordinator IV is the lead or specialist level class in the Payroll/Personnel Coordinator series. This level is distinguished from the Payroll/Personnel Coordinator III in that the former is assigned to larger County departments with 24/7 operations, various locations, programs, and shifts or in central Human Resources or Controller's Office. At this level, work requires the analysis of unusual circumstances, understanding and proper application of complex and multiple labor contract provisions and assessing a variety of approaches to finding solutions. Actions to be taken or responses to be made differ in such things as the source of information, the kind of transaction or scenario, the type of employee and his/her eligibility for labor contract provisions. Positions at central HR and Controller's Office provide lead, guidance, and instructions to other departmental Coordinators.

 

In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience in Human Recourses and the Payroll System (Workday) and timekeeping system (Infor Workforce Management aka ATKS).

Position Summary

 

The Bridge Patrol Officer works as member of a fast paced and dynamic 24/7 department with 36 team members to ensure the efficient and effective daily operation and security of the Golden Gate Bridge and associated facilities.  Responsibilities include critical infrastructure security, roadway and visitor safety, crisis intervention and suicide prevention, emergency roadway services, traffic management, parking enforcement, revenue collection, and customer service.  The Bridge Patrol Officer serves as a customer contact and organizational ambassador for persons who drive, walk and bicycle the Golden Gate Bridge on a daily basis.

Essential Responsibilities

 

• Patrols the Bridge and surrounding areas using patrol cars, bicycles, and motorized scooters for the purpose of providing security, suicide prevention/apprehension, and to provide assistance to the public
• Responds to all incidents on the Bridge and its approaches, such as accidents, attempted suicides, body retrieval from the South Tower moat and other areas near the Bridge
• Responds to medical emergencies and first- aid calls
• Enforces District ordinances and regulations on the Bridge and surrounding areas and on other District property
• Conducts preliminary investigations of motor vehicle accidents, suicides, and any other reportable incidents that occur on the Bridge or surrounding area
• Checks the District buildings for physical security
• Coordinates with the California Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies when needed
• Assists in the apprehension of possible suicides
• Assists with traffic and crowd control
• Performs traffic control and issues parking citations
• Operates tower elevators and performs driving duties as assigned
• Maintains positive public relations and performs preliminary investigations of complaints from the public
• Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to the job
• Regular and reliable attendance and performance required

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education and Experience:         

• Two years’ recent experience working in security, emergency responder dispatching or a related field (this may include Bridge Operations department work experience) that involved frequent contact with the public.
• Completion of two years’ college-level courses in a Criminal Justice related field (AA/AS degree desirable). Note: Additional qualifying experience and/or training might be substituted on a year-for-year basis in lieu of the education requirement. A written statement outlining additional qualifying experience is required.

 Required Licenses/Certificates:  

• Must possess and maintain a current, valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record. No reckless driving and DUI infractions within the last 7 years. No more than 2 moving violations within the last 3 years. May operate District vehicles.

Desirable Licenses / Certifications:  

• PC 832 Certificate – “Laws of Arrest”
• First-aid and CPR Certificate

 

Physical Requirement:  

Ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and carry that weight 30 feet. Ability to drag 165 pounds approximately 10 feet. Ability to climb fences and ladders to access bridge structures. Frequent bending, stooping, and walking. Occasional running and crawling and moving around in tight and/or confined spaces. Ability to learn to use manual shift vehicles. Ability to safely ride a bicycle. Ability to work at considerable heights. Possess the physical abilities required to perform the essential duties of the position. Able to remain standing and/or walking for periods of up to three (3) hours.

 

Mental Requirement:  

Ability to remain calm and carry out appropriate action or direction during periods of considerable and sustained stress. Ability to analyze and evaluate situations in order to make sound decisions and take appropriate actions using the facts presented. Ability to incorporate District policies and regulations in the course of carrying out routine duties.             Hours:

• Position covers a 24/7 operation. Shifts are 12 hours, AM (days) and PM (nights).

Position Summary

This position ensures technical systems perform per contractual requirements, project manages to deliver new/enhanced system features, and oversees daily operations. This position is also responsible for identifying and resolving current operational, technical, policy, and programmatic issues. Active monitoring of daily transaction processing data for transit, tolls, traffic and passenger volumes, revenue, and system budget and cost will be expected. The Manager will collaborate with District staff responsible for system maintenance, technical functionality, and customer service to uncover and address system issues before they escalate. This position will identify and lead the implementation of program and policy improvements to the AET program and Clipper program.

BASIC EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

• Perform a variety of unskilled/semi-skilled maintenance or custodial duties involving manual labor of facilities, parks, storm drains, streets, etc.
• Clean and inspect facilities for vandalism or potential hazards.
• Sanitize surfaces, repair minor plumbing problems, diagnose basic sewer issues, replace components on fixtures.
• Maintain area(s) as assigned including parks and public buildings, performing basic repairs, inspections and landscaping.
• Load and unload supplies and materials.
• Assist with various areas of public works such as minor asphalt repairs, brush removal, facility repairs, stewardship of protected species, etc.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
