The City of Brisbane is currently accepting applications for Recreation Leaders. Under direct supervision, the Recreation Leader implements and facilitates well-rounded programs in youth after-school programs, pre-school program, day camps, sports leagues, and special events at designated recreation facilities.  This position involves face-to-face leadership and considerable contact with youth ages 5 to 12 years.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  Graduation from high school or a GED equivalent.  College or university work in recreation or physical education or a related field is desirable.

Experience:  Previous experience working with recreation or youth programs, and/or coaching or playing popular games.

Ability to:   Possession of or ability to obtain prior to completion of twelve months of employment First Aid and Infant/Child CPR certificates.

Knowledge of:    Youth recreational programs and sports programs; playground safety; leadership skills required to effectively lead youth recreation and sports programs; and effective communication skills appropriate for dealing with both youth and adults.

Skill in:  Lead and motivate participants in various recreation programs and exercise patience with all participants; make effective judgments regarding the well-being of the participants and the program; communicate effectively with individuals of all ages; establish and maintain relationships with those contacted during the course of work; and maintain discipline and control in an active environment.

SALARY AND HOURS: 

$15.45 – $16.22 - $17.04 - $17.88 - $18.78 per hour.  This is a part-time position with paid sick leave available.  Initial appointments are generally made at the first step of this five-step scale.  Hours will range from 5 to 15 hours per week during the academic school year and 20-25 hours per week during camp seasons.  Hours are generally scheduled during the following times, with additional hours available for special events:

Youth Program

2:00 PM – 6:00 PM Monday through Friday (Academic school year)

8:00 AM – 6:00 PM Monday through Friday (Summer, Winter and Spring Camp)

The Program Coordinator - Facilities will assist with the timely processing of rental applications and the smooth operation of facility rentals. This position requires a high level of customer service, attention to detail, marketing prowess, and event management expertise. Please note: this position requires a Saturday through Monday work schedule. 

EXAMPLES ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Program Coordinator may have a specific focus in a program area or area(s), including, but not limited to facility management.
• Facilitates recreation activities, specifically enrichment, for specific youth age groups with part-time staff, independent contractors, and volunteers (groups and individuals).
• Organizes, implements, directs, supervises and/or promotes specific programs, activities and special events.
• Implements the Recreation Department’s programming at off and on-site locations and develops new programming and curriculum in partnership with the community. 
• Participates in the preparation and administration of assigned program budget.
• Works with local organizations, businesses, school personnel, parents and community members in developing and providing programs and activities through rentals.
• Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Creates flyers, brochures, and other materials related to programs and events, as directed.
• Provides customer service to applicants, participants, and the general public.
• Monitors the day-to-day operations of the rentals, programs, and special events, including handling and resolving complaints not requiring the attention of a supervisor and ensuring that programs and events have required setups, materials and supplies.
• Assists in the evaluation of programming including conducting customer satisfaction surveys and analyzing reports on rental program effectiveness.
• Enforces safety and operating procedures and provides for maintenance needs including compliance with health and safety codes. 
• Creation and development of new events, as needed.

*Please note that this is a part-time permanent position (25 hours a week or .625 FTE). The salary listed above is the .625 FTE equivalent salary. Benefits are prorated accordingly as well. Additional part-time hours may be agreed upon with the Director of Recreation filling an additional role/position but benefits will continue to be calculated at the .625 FTE proration.

Requires flexible hours, include evening and weekends.  These are contract, part-time non-benefited positions.

Pay rate: starting at $13.30 hourly

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develops, conducts and participates in various athletic, craft, social, cultural and instructional activities of a community center or District program.
• Modifies and adapts activities specific to specialized programs or populations.
• Develops interest, enthusiasm, and fair play among participants.
• Teaches classes and leads group activities.
• Directs and supervises the use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Prepares facilities for group activities, including physical set-up and break-down of classrooms.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
Completion of 30 units is desirable with five hundred (500) to one thousand (1000) hours of group recreational activity leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience which has provided knowledge of principles and practices of public recreation and basic rules and regulations governing competitive group athletic games.

Language Ability: 
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports. Ability to effectively communicate to the general public in written and oral form, including teaching.

Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiple, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compile statistical information and track scores.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates and Licenses:
California Driver’s License; First Aid and CPR certificates within 6 months. Fingerprint clearance required.

Job Summary

The City of San Dimas is seeking an enthusiastic team player for its Recreation Specialist position.  Under direction of the Recreation Coordinator, this position will assist with planning, coordinating, promoting and implementing Kids Fun Club Day Camp program.

JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision, Recreation Leaders are responsible for coordinating and conducting a variety of youth recreation activities, and providing general supervision of children or teens at a summer camp, playground program, sports program and special event.  Recreation leaders must be available Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Tuesdays 6:15 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. and weekends and additional hours as assigned.

THE POSITION

Under general supervision, performs slide dispatch duties in enforcing water slide procedures, City public swimming pool rules and monitoring patron conduct; perform emergency rescue and lifesaving techniques.

•     Preform safety checks of the waterslides;

Community Services Aides are an intricate part of our parks operations, requiring the highest level of customer service, reliability, teamwork and interpersonal skills, and communication skills. This position is an entry-level classification that is part-time, unbenefited with a limit of 19 hours per week or a maximum of 1,040 hours per calendar year. Schedules will vary seasonally and Community Services Aides will be placed in assignments based on their availability. There is no guarantee of hours or longevity and staff may be unassigned. Availability is needed during park operations on weekdays and weekends between the hours of 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM, holidays, and some evening hours may be required.

THE POSITION

The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the temporary and part-time position of Aquatics Specialist I in the Parks Recreation, & Libraries Department. • Assist in conducting classes at all participant skill levels (beginning through advanced) and supervise the conduct of swimmers in City pools in order to maintain a safe environment.

Swim Instructor I

•     Assist with creating lesson plans for team practices including the preparation of work-out schedules for all ages and ability levels on the team

•     Attend all scheduled swim meets for the swim team.

•     Assist with assigning swimmers’ events, preparing swimmers prior to swim events, and distribute awards following the swim meet

•     Instruct and evaluate swim team members in important competitive swimming elements and techniques

•     Act as a reference and role model for swim team members

•     Cultivate and maintain good public relations with parent committee, parents, swimmers and the community

•     Attend all coaches’ meetings and additional staff trainings as scheduled

•     Other related duties as assigned.
