The Police Officer - Lateral position is a sworn position in the Police Department. Enforces Federal, State and Municipal laws and ordinances; performs patrol duties in cars, on motorcycles or bicycles, and on foot as required; enforces State and local traffic laws to regulate traffic, and investigates accidents; answers calls for service and the protection of life and property; makes arrests as required and testifies in court; performs crime prevention duties and community relations activities; interfaces with all City departments to insure the utmost service to the citizens of Campbell; prepares reports; services and maintains departmental equipment; may relieve or assist Records or Communications personnel.

Typical Duties: 

• Enforces Federal, State and Municipal laws and ordinances;

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience: 

• Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university. (college units must be completed at time of application)
• Completion of a POST approved basic academy. 

Possession of: 

• Valid California Driver's License
• POST Academy Graduation Certificate
• First Aid Card & CPR Certificate 

Additional Requirements:

• Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for, and who has applied for, citizenship at least one year prior to application for employment. Application for citizenship shall not have been denied.
• Pre-employment: ability to pass drug and alcohol test; candidates must not have been convicted by any state or by the federal government of a crime, the punishment for which could have been imprisonment in a federal penitentiary or a state prison.

Probationary Period: Upon date of hire and 18 months following the date of swearing in as a Police Officer

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION AND POLYGRAPH TEST
An intensive background investigation will be conducted on each final candidate in accordance with the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission Peace Officer Background Investigations Guidelines. Candidates will also be required to successfully pass a polygraph test administered by a licensed polygrapher, a psychological exam given by a City-selected psychologist and a medical exam by a City physician (to include a stress test EKG and general physical examination). The results of the psychological exam are valid for one year. Suitability for employment will also be based on the following POST job dimensions: problem-solving ability, learning ability, observation skills, willingness to confront problems, interest in people, interpersonal sensitivity, desire for self-improvement, dependability, integrity, credibility as a witness in a court of law, communication skills, judgment under pressure and physical ability.

The annual salary range for this position is:

The San José Fire Department (SJFD) is seeking to fill multiple Associate Engineer positions in the Bureau of Fire Prevention (BFP). Under the general supervision of a Senior Engineer, the Associate Engineer position performs a variety of professional engineering, plan review, and inspection work.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Examine plans, perform calculations and review specifications for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings for compliance with the California Building Code, California Fire Code, California State Fire Marshal regulations, and  applicable NFPA standards and local ordinances.

• Conduct field inspections to ensure that the finished construction complies with approved plans.

The City of Campbell's Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for Public Safety Dispatcher!

Under general supervision, to receive and transmit routine and emergency telephone, radio and computer messages; to keep a variety of police records; and to do related work as required.

Typical Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Answers all telephone calls promptly and courteously;
• Makes rapid and accurate determination of the nature of each call and the degree, severity, and location of any emergency;
• Refers non-emergency callers to the appropriate agency or other resource;
• Questions emergency callers to elicit complete and accurate information necessary for emergency response and enters information in the computer-aided dispatch system;
• Gather information using multiple audio and visual resources;
• Selects emergency response units in exact accordance with established user agency policies and procedures;
• Promptly and properly alerts response units in exact accordance with user agency policies and procedures;
• Maintains current status on all field units;
• Closely monitors any situation presenting a potential danger to the life or safety of field personnel and takes immediate action to dispatch assistance as required;

• Participates in training and evaluation activities to establish and maintain a high level of proficiency;

Hours of Work: Public Safety Dispatchers typically work 12 hours shifts, with 4 work days one week and 3 work days the following week.  Shifts available area a day and night shift, or variation, that can rotate every six months.  Dispatchers may have to work weekends, holidays and overtime. 

Special Conditions: Incumbents must have the ability to work, as assigned, on schedules that may include Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and non-traditional work hours; and a willingness to work overtime as required.

Other Requirements: Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the job assignment.  All candidates will be required to pass a City background investigation, which will include fingerprinting and may include polygraph and/or psychological testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:

• Graduation from an accredited high school (GED may be substituted for a high school diploma); plus
• One year of successful full-time responsible experience performing work where the essential functions of the job involved public contact, computer usage or heavy telephone traffic.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR APPLICATION:

• Typing Certificate certifying a minimum of 40 wpm dated within one year of the application date; AND
• Criticall Dispatcher test with a passing score dated within one year of the application date; OR

- Collects, develops, evaluates, compares, and identifies latent fingerprints or other impression evidence found at major crime scenes or submitted to the unit, including whole, partial fragmentary, or distorted latent finger and palm prints.

- Operates computers and computer-related equipment associated with automated fingerprint identification systems.

- Provides expert testimony, methodology, and identification in all aspects of latent print processing in court and formal hearings.

- Uses fingerprint comparators, magnifiers, ridge counters and other technical and scientific equipment for observing and comparing latent prints.

- Maintains communications with Federal, State and local law enforcement agencies and identification units.

The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience. In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Associate Engineer classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

The Department is currently recruiting to fill multiple Associate Engineer (Building) positions in the Plan Review Services Division with duties including, but not limited to:

- Advising professional engineers, architects and others concerning code requirements, engineering and planning problems arising in the preliminary design of buildings and structures.

- Examining plans, calculations and specifications for residential, multi-family, commercial and industrial buildings, including complex major structures for structural adequacy, zoning and general compliance with governing laws, codes, ordinances and regulations.

- Making independent engineering analyses on proposed buildings when required to justify the structural safety of design, and applicable electrical and mechanical systems.

- Working closely with and giving information to professional engineers, architects, contractors and the general public regarding building, zoning and general requirements concerning buildings and structures.

- Coordinating effectively with Development Service partners e.g. Planning, Fire Prevention, Public Works, Environmental Services for plan review consistency and streamlining permit process.

- Issuing permits after review of plans.

- Advising building inspectors on structural, fire and life-safety challenges arising in the field during the construction of a building project.

- Instructing inspectors and technicians in the review of simple building plans.

- Conducting safety assessments of older buildings and assisting in enforcing compliance with the City's Disaster Response Plan.

- Performing observational review of critical structural elements of the projects under construction.
