About Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District
Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District (LGVSD) is located in the Las Gallinas Valley between central San Rafael and Novato. In 1955, our original wastewater treatment plant was constructed to address health problems associated with failing septic tanks in Santa Venetia. New development in north San Rafael resulted in annexation of Terra Linda in 1956, followed by other areas including San Rafael Meadows, Marinwood, Lucas Valley and other communities. Major plant expansions were built in 1958, 1972 and 1984. The latter increased capacity to 2.92 million gallons per day.
Today, LGVSD serves 32,000 customers in the northern San Rafael area and manages approximately 105 miles of collection lines. Boundaries of the facility span approximately 383 acres. In addition to the treatment plant, other aspects of LGVSD include solar generation, a garbage franchise encompassing all areas within the District excluding the City of San Rafael customers, and a multi-faceted reclamation project which includes a freshwater marsh, irrigated pastures, storage ponds and saltwater marsh – all of which are home to area wildlife, and provide access and recreation for the public.
Description
The Las Gallinas Sanitary District has an opening for one full time position of an entry level Collection System Operator, either as a Collection System Operator or Collection System Operator Grade I, depending on qualifications.
Under immediate and general supervision of the Collection System/Maintenance/Safety Manager and Lead Collection System Operator, inspects, performs preventative and corrective maintenance and repairs District gravity wastewater collection system, sewage pump stations and sewage force mains; performs underground televised wastewater line inspection and hydro cleaning and rodding of sewer lines; inspects and performs preventive maintenance, servicing and mechanical repair of stationary and mobile equipment; and performs related work as required.
Class Characteristics
Collection System Operator: This is the trainee-level classification in the collection system operator series. Initially under immediate supervision, incumbents learn to inspect, maintain and repair District collection system infrastructure, pump stations and related facilities and equipment. Incumbents learn to perform tasks according to District practices and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations. Since this class is often used as a training class, incumbents may have only limited or no directly related work experience.
Collection System Operator Grade I: This is the first working classification in the collection system operator series. Positions at this level usually perform most of the collection systems infrastructure, pump station and related facilities and equipment inspection, maintenance and repair duties required of the positions at the II-level but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. Since this class is often used as a training class, incumbents may have only limited or no directly related work experience.
The base salary range, dependent on qualifications, is:
Collection System Operator: $6,422-$8,196 per month
Collection System Operator Grade I: $6,747-$8,611 per month
