Police Officer Recruit
Annual Salary: $84,161
As a Police Officer Recruit, you’ll be paid while attending the police academy—with the full support of the department as you complete your training.

Retirement
We partner with CalPERS to provide retirement benefits that help you plan for the future with confidence:
Tier 2 Safety – 3%@55 for CalPERS Classic members
Tier 3 Safety – 2.7%@57 for CalPERS members joining the CalPERS system on or after January 1, 2013

Medical
We offer medical plans through the CalPERS Health Program, giving you a range of HMO and PPO options. The City covers the cost of the Kaiser Employee plus two or more dependents (family) plan, additional plans are available for you to choose from, with costs ranging from nominal to significant depending on your selection.

Earn vacation monthly, with accrual increasing as your years of service grow.
Holidays
Police Officers accrue holiday time equivalent to 12 official holidays each year. After completing one year with us, you’ll also earn an additional 2 floating holidays.

Accrue 8 hours of sick leave each month, which can be used for personal illness or to care for a family member.

We provide $200,000 in basic life insurance coverage for safety employees and $125,000 in basic life insurance for non-safety employees. Want more protection? You can purchase extra coverage for yourself and your dependents.

Special Instructions
