This is Redwood City, the seat of San Mateo County, serving a population of 84,423 supported by 634 FTE and a total FY25-26 budget of $396.8 million ($201 million General Fund) and a FY25-26 CIP of $72.9 million.
The City Manager serves as Redwood City’s chief executive officer and is responsible for implementing Council policies and overseeing all City operations. The City Manager appoints and leads a talented executive team that offers more than 350 combined years of local government experience and 54 years of executive level experience in Redwood City.
Ideal Candidate
The City Council is desirous of attracting strong leaders with proven track records of successfully executing on organizational priorities. The ideal candidate will have the courage to break new ground and the ability to energize others around a vision of what is possible. Competitive candidates will have deep knowledge in municipal finance and/or land use matters. Economic development experience will also be considered favorably. Senior or executive level public sector management experience is expected. A bachelor’s degree is required; master’s degree is preferred.
