 Orinda Youth Sports Needs Your Help!

Part-Time Winter Basketball League Positions

Are you looking for a fun, part-time job where you can stay active, work with kids, and be part of the community? The City of Orinda Parks and Recreation Department is hiring Sports Program Assistants for the upcoming Orinda Youth Sports (OYS) Winter Basketball League!

Season Dates: Saturdays only, January 20 – March 14 (no games Feb. 14)
Shifts: 6 hours (8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.)
Pay: $16.50 – $24.50/hour (depending on experience and role)

What You’ll Do

  • Help set up and take down basketball equipment

  • Supervise the gym and keep things running smoothly

  • Run the scoreboard/score clock

  • Be a positive role model for young athletes

(And yes—there will be chances for more work in the spring leagues and summer camps!)

What We’re Looking For

  • ✅ Friendly, reliable, and flexible people
  • ✅ Strong communication skills
  • ✅ Teens (Age 16+; must have completed 9th grade) or high school graduates
  • ✅ Bonus: Experience with sports, leadership, or working with kids

Training & Requirements

  • CPR and First Aid certification provided by the City

  • Must have (if under 18) a valid school work permit

  • Must pass post-offer, pre-employment fingerprint/background check, drug screening and TB Test.  Some processes may require legal guardian consent if under 18 years of age.

  • This is a non-benefited part-time, seasonal or temporary (casual) position.
  • Individuals in the position may not work more than 1,000 hours per year.
  • Individuals in the position will receive sick leave in accordance with California State Law.
  • Individuals in the position will be enrolled in a MissionSquare Retirement 457 Deferred Compensation Program with the employee contributing 7.5%; this retirement contribution is in lieu of participating in Social Security.
