Applications are being accepted for the position of Public Works Maintenance Worker with the City of South San Francisco. This is a non-benefited, part-time/hourly position.

Hourly Rate: $35.88- $43.61 per hour
The Department
The Public Works department is comprised of the Maintenance, Engineering and WQCP (Water Quality Control Plant) divisions. The Maintenance Division is responsible for all of the asphalt and concrete streets within the City as well as all of the associated signalized intersections, streetlights, road signs and traffic markings. The division also maintains the sanitary sewer/storm system which includes all of the sanitary sewer lines, all of the storm lines and catch basins, several storm water pump stations, as well as various large storm water trash capture devices throughout the City.
THE POSITION
Under close to general supervision, this hourly position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the downtown corridor, including the removal of litter, debris, and illegal dumping. Duties are primarily driven by SeeClickFix service requests and may include other related maintenance and cleaning tasks as assigned.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have experience with outdoor maintenance work and be familiar with basic tools, equipment, and safety practices related to cleaning and debris removal in public spaces. They will take pride in keeping high-visibility areas clean and welcoming, respond promptly to service requests (such as those submitted through SeeClickFix), and interact professionally with the public and City staff. The ideal candidate will be reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team, using sound judgment while following established safety procedures.
TYPICAL DUTIES (may include but are not limited to the following):
- Conduct daily cleaning and maintenance of the City’s downtown corridor, ensuring all public areas are free of litter and debris.
- Efficiently empty, clean and service all City owned trash receptacles, adhering to waste disposal and sanitation standards.
- Respond to requests for service in real time via smart device.
- Uses a variety of hand and power tools in connection with the above duties; operates light, motorized equipment, such as pick-ups, flatbeds, and dump trucks.
- Identify and report maintenance issues, safety hazards or vandalism during routine duties to appropriate City personnel.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Experience: One year of experience in general construction or maintenance work.
Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.
