The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a responsible and motivated Environmental Compliance Aide (Hourly City Worker) who will provide assistance for the following programs: Drinking Water Quality, Pretreatment (Industrial Waste), and Stormwater Quality.

The Environmental Compliance Aide will report to the Hill Canyon Treatment Plant (9600 Santa Rosa Rd, Camarillo, CA 93012) and conduct work in the field throughout the City of Thousand Oaks.

This is a part-time, hourly, at-will position that involves working approximately 15-25 hours per week between Monday – Thursday with flexible scheduling options.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Duties may include assisting with:

  • Tracking, researching, and following regulations regarding drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater
  • Field duties, such as assisting with:
    • Sampling/ performing routine tests of the City’s drinking water distribution system
    • Inspecting commercial businesses for stormwater compliance 
    • Inspecting/sampling industries discharging industrial wastewater to the City’s sewer system

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Follow guidelines and assist with conducting routine inspections, assisting with providing data for  inspection reports and preparing related correspondence
  • Enter and manage data in databases and third party software platforms
  • Communicate effectively with residents and business owners
  • Understand occupational hazards and apply standard safety practices
  • Work collaboratively with a team and contribute to a cooperative environment
  • Hold a valid Class C driver’s license
  • Possess education equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade, supplemented by college-level coursework in biology, environmental science, chemistry, or a related field; a Bachelor’s degree in an Earth Science-related field is a plus
  • Bonus points if you possess any of the following certifications:
    • State of California Water Distribution Operator Grade 1
    • State of California Water Treatment Operator Grade 1
    • CWEA Environmental Compliance Inspector Grade 1
    • CWEA Laboratory Analyst Grade 1
