SALARY
The anticipated hiring range for the Engineering Assistant position is $91,185 - $113,982 annually, with a full salary range up to $136,778.
The anticipated hiring range for the Engineering Associate position is $100,652 - $125,815 annually, with a full salary range up to $150,978.
The anticipated hiring range for the Associate Engineer position is $111,100 - $138,876 annually, with a full salary range up to $166,651.
The City typically makes offers within the hiring range based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
DESCRIPTION
The Capital Improvement Division of the Public Works Department is seeking up to two motivated and capable individuals who can approach challenges with confidence and professionalism. Ideal candidates will have experience/background in civil engineering and utilities design and/or construction.
The position may be filled as an Engineering Assistant, Engineering Associate, or Associate Engineer, depending on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and certifications.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and oversee the preparation of design plans and specification, construction documents, engineering studies and reports
Assist the Project Team (Division Manager, Senior Engineer, and outside consultants) in managing and performing varying responsibilities including permitting, preparation of construction documents, drawings, specifications, and estimates or the city capital projects, which may include water, wastewater, storm drain, landscape, pavement, and roadway improvements.
Coordinate and perform professional planning and engineering work, including reviewing proposed land development plans, and environmental impact reports (EIR), and recommends or develops appropriate mitigation measures
Participate in the review, development, and/or revision of the various elements of plans, ordinances, and other policies and procedures
Provide oversight of engineering consultants and/or co-workers
Respond to residents regarding public works concerns
Assist in the planning and administration of various projects fueled by local, regional, and federal grant funds
Meet and work with professional and public groups, and coordinate public outreach for City infrastructure projects and programs.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or GIS systems and Bluebeam
A valid class C California driver’s license
EXPERIENCE/CREDENTIALS
Engineering Assistant – Previous experience performing responsible, paraprofessional engineering work.
Engineering Associate – Two years of professional-level engineering experience in design and or construction work. Holds (or is a candidate to receive) a valid certificate as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) issued by the State of California
Associate Engineer – Three years or more of responsible professional engineering experience, plus a valid certificate of California registration for Professional Engineers (PE) or having a valid EIT and the ability to obtain PE within 6 months of the hire date.
