Description

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Recreation Leader II (Summer Camps Senior Leader) position is responsible for providing high-level programs and services through the Parks and Recreation Department, which provide concrete, positive experiences for youth and promote qualities essential to raising successful young people. Recreation Leaders (II) are responsible for creating and implementing the curriculum for the Moraga Day Camp program, which offers youth daily activities, including arts and crafts, games, songs, field trips, and special events. This position is responsible for supervision of part-time staff and day camp participants. This position may also work additional seasonal events for the Parks and Recreation Department throughout the year.

Mandatory Training Dates: 

  • Various Online Training Sessions TBD.
  • Saturday, May 16, 2026, 8:00 am - 3:00 pm in San Ramon (Regional Summer Training)
  • Monday, June 1, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Tuesday, June 2, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Wednesday, June 3, Time CPR / First Aid, 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM
  • Thursday, June 4, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Friday, June 5, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Program Dates: 

  • June 8 - August 07, 2026. Must be available for 7 of the 9 weeks. (No Vacations will be approved from June 1 through June 12th.
  • Mandatory Workday – Camp Cleanup – August 8th & 9th. Times TBD.

 EXAMPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and lead arts, crafts, songs, and games according to the week's theme.
  • Coordinate camp activity rotation schedule and site logistics to ensure efficient operations.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and equipment within budgetary guidelines.
  • Supervise and mentor Recreation Leaders (I) and Counselors in Training, including adherence to Town policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model to campers.
  • Work as part of a team of leaders.
  • Safely and appropriately supervise campers.
  • Use positive discipline and communicate effectively with parents/guardians.
  • Perform duties within OSHA health and safety standards, including Covid-19 protocols and cleaning procedures.

Ideal Candidate

QUALIFICATIONS

  • The minimum age for employment is 18 years or Graduation from High School by June 8, 2026.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, creative, and organized.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Mobility to work in a standard, active office setting.
  • Ability to backfill in a Camp Setting.
  • Familiar with office software such as Microsoft Office 360, Word, Excel, etc.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Experience:

  • 2 + years of Summer Camp or Office Setting work.
  • Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Generally, this will require:
  • Desirable Experience: Two (2) years of work experience, preferably in a customer service-oriented environment or youth recreational activities.

License or Certificates:  

  • Current Youth/Adult First Aid/CPR Certificate or ability to obtain a certificate.

Education:     

  • Graduated from high school by June 8, 2026

There are no benefits for part-time, temporary-seasonal positions (except paid sick leave per AB 1522).
