Description

Yuba Water Agency is seeking a skilled, detail-driven Construction Inspector II to support major infrastructure projects that protect communities, enhance water reliability, and strengthen the region’s long-term resilience. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact public works—from dam safety improvements to hydropower facilities, and recreation facilities—while contributing to one of California’s most forward-thinking water agencies.

The Construction Inspector II plays a vital part in ensuring that Yuba Water Agency’s capital projects are built safely, accurately, and in full compliance with plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements. This position conducts daily field inspections, documents construction progress, verifies contractor work, and collaborates closely with engineers, project managers, and external partners. The work is hands-on, technical, and essential to delivering high-quality infrastructure that serves the people of Yuba County.
Some key initiatives you’ll work on:

  • Dam Safety and Reliability Project                                                                                                          Inspection of spillway improvements, embankment work, instrumentation installations, and other critical dam-related construction.
  • Hydropower Facility Upgrades                                                                                                               Oversight of mechanical, electrical, and civil construction activities supporting power generation assets.
  • Flood Risk Reduction Infrastructure                                                                                                      Inspection of flood control structures, and related public safety projects.
  • Capital Improvement Program Deliver                                                                                                   Ensuring contractors meet quality, schedule, and compliance expectations across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure investments.

Preliminary screening interviews, with the most qualified applicants, will be conducted the week of March 16th. Next steps which may include but are not limited to testing and/or panel interviews, will be determined by the number of qualified applicants received and will be conducted on March 30th.  In addition, the finalists will be asked to do a technical discussion followed by a site tour tentatively scheduled for April 13th and April 16th.

They are meticulous in documentation, confident in interpreting plans and specifications, and comfortable navigating complex construction environments. They excel at building positive working relationships with contractors and internal teams while maintaining firm, fair oversight. A background in civil, structural, power generation construction is highly valued, along with a commitment to safety, quality, and public service.

The ideal candidate would have 5-10+ years' experience inspecting heavy civil, water, and hydropower construction

Understand FERC regulatory and environmental compliance requirements

Are proactive, organized, and skilled at problem-solving in the field

Communicate effectively with engineers, contractors, and stakeholders

Bring a collaborative mindset and a passion for infrastructure that protects communities

Minimum Qualifications: Education/Training
Yuba Water Agency recognizes that access to formal education varies widely. Relevant professional experience, community leadership, or lived experience may be considered in lieu of the formal education requirements listed below.

Education/Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by college level coursework in civil engineering, drafting, surveying, construction, mathematics, or a related field.?

Experience:
Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in construction inspection equivalent to the Construction Inspector I classification at the Yuba Water Agency.

License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, to be maintained throughout employment.

Working Conditions
Some positions may require working varied shifts and/or alternate schedules as needed. Agency employees may be expected to work overtime, weekends, evenings, and holidays as required to accommodate the Agency’s needs, in addition to responding as a Disaster Services Emergency Worker.

This position is subject to call out at any time and must reside close enough to travel to the Power Systems Headquarters within one (1) hour.
 

Benefits

The annual salary range for the Construction Inspector II is $87,969.24 - $106,927.16 annually. Actual salary will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. In addition, the agency offers an attractive benefits package that includes:

  • 2026 Health Insurance rates: 1-party is $1,090.95, 2-party is $2,181.90, and 3+party is $2,891.02 per month. Any premiums in excess of these amounts shall be paid by the employee.
  • Dental: 100% paid coverage for employee and dependents
  • Vision: 100% paid coverage for employee and dependents
  • Vacation: Accrued at 12.6 hours per calendar month and increases with years of service
  • Sick Leave: Accrued at 10 hours per calendar month
  • Holidays: 12 official holidays per year
  • Retirement: CalPERS: For classic members 2% @ 55 formula and the agency will pay 5% of the employee’s 7% contribution to CalPERS. For all others, subject to the provisions of AB340 with a 2%@ 62 formula
  • Retiree health through the agency upon completion of ten (10) years of service credit with the agency and retirement from CalPERS. The agency’s present contribution for each annuitant, including enrollment of his/her family members, is a maximum of $2,000 per month.
  • Deferred Compensation: Voluntary participation in Agency Plans. The agency will contribute 7.65% amount towards the plan.
  • Life Insurance: $100,000
  • Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) with Agency contribution of $600/year
  • Flexible Spending Medical / Dependent Care Accounts available with pre-tax payroll contributions
  • Educational/training tuition reimbursement available
