CIVIC FELLOW PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland has established a paid summer fellow program for individuals early in their career seeking public service experience. This program invests in our local workforce and fosters a passion for careers in the public sector. During the eight (8)-week program, fellows will work with a City department and participate in program-wide activities.
Typical work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, up to 40 hours per week. For more information, visit cityofwoodland.gov/1429/Civic-Fellowship-Program.
This fellow posting is for the Engagement & Economic Development Fellow in both the City Manager’s Office and the Community Services Department.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland seeks a motivated public servant to join the City Manager's Office and the Community Services Department as our Engagement & Economic Development Fellow. This role will work closely with staff to roll out innovative engagement strategies, enhance our economic development efforts, and research ways to most effectively reach Woodlanders while creating timely and trend-aware content that aligns with best practices.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Ideal Candidate will have a passion for public service and be open to a fast-paced work environment. Skills in writing, researching, and critical thinking are a plus, as is experience with legislative research, social media, and any level of government. Most importantly, we seek someone who can take up diverse projects and work flexibly to deliver impactful work for our community.
The Ideal Candidate is a creative, digitally savvy, and detail-oriented individual with a strong interest in community engagement and digital communications. They are comfortable creating engaging social media content, staying current with online trends, and adapting those trends to fit a professional, public-sector environment.
Experience with content creation, photography, digital marketing, or social media management—whether through coursework, internships, or personal projects—is also desirable.

THE POSITION OBJECTIVE/GOAL
The goal of the position is:
1. Learn about and reinvigorate the City's "The Food Front" food and agricultural economic development campaign. Help with scheduling key stakeholder meetings, running campaigns online, refreshing and improving webpages, and planning engagement events.
2. Lead community and civic engagement efforts, from supporting City Council Members with outreach to preparing materials for anything from possible Prop. 218 fee proposals to education around public programs.
3. Become familiar with the City's multimedia platforms and help create content, including vertical videos, podcasts, employee highlights, promotions for Community Services programs, events, and initiatives, traditional door to door outreach materials, and more.
4. Research and observe the rollout of SB707 and assist staff with implementing its provisions related to participation and outreach.
5. Analyze performance data and existing marketing strategies used by the City, focusing on campaign objectives, target audiences, and content types.
6. Define and support community engagement efforts and highlight their importance within local government services.
7. Propose innovative and inclusive campaign ideas tailored to local demographics and community needs.
8. Support ADA compliance efforts by reviewing and improving accessibility of social media and website content.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years of high school
- Local Woodland knowledge preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Valid California driver license (if driving is an essential duty)
SALARY RANGE
$20.00 - $25.00 / hour dependent on experience.
The pay cycle is bi-weekly. No other benefits compensations are provided except for worker's compensation coverage and sick leave. Employees must contribute 1.45% of their salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan under Federal Law.
