Description

THE JOB

Instruct children and young adults (primarily 5-14 years of age) in beginning to intermediate tennis camp. Class content should provide basic and/or more advanced game mechanics, strategies, and the rules of tennis, depending on the student level of the skill. Class must emphasize the importance of good sportsmanship and team play. The goal is to have fun and develop a skill.

 

Schedule: Camp will run from June 8th through June 18th.

Group A (5-7yrs) 9:00AM to 9:45AM

Group B (8-10yrs) 10AM to 10:45AM

Group C (11yrs+) 11AM to 11:45AM

Location: LOHS Tennis Courts  

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

  • To provide, organization, leading, and instructing individuals and groups in sports programs.
  • Provides encouragement to participants and provides a positive atmosphere for play.
  • Supervise and implement safe practices as it relates to participants, programs, and facilities. 
  • Implement lesson plans to be provided by the City.
  • Maintains rosters and City forms.
  • Advises participants on game and facility procedures and policies, as appropriate.
  • Develop and lead daily tennis specific drill and game components.
  • Reports accidents and prepares accident reports as required.
  • Communicate effectively with children, other coaches/referees, parents, and community members.
  • Sets up equipment and ensures its return in serviceable condition.
  • Maintain program areas by cleaning up after activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Parks and Recreation Director.
  • Make recommendations to the Parks and Recreation Director regarding program enhancement and any concerns regarding operations.

Ideal Candidate

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Prior experience working or volunteering with youth
  • Experience in tennis is required. 
  • Must pass a background check prior to start date

* A conviction history will not necessarily disqualify an applicant from appointment; however, failure to disclose a conviction will result in disqualification or termination

  • Must provide proof of a negative TB Test
  • Must be available at the times when games and practices are held
  • Applicant should have a general understanding of youth development and proper disciplinary actions
  • Experience working with children in a recreation setting preferred

  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
  • Understand and carryout oral and written instructions
  • Work cooperatively with other people contacted in the course of the work
  • Interact successfully with youths and teens
  • Sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time. An employee will frequently be required to bend, squat, kneel, climb stairs, use hand, and finger dexterity, use eye to hand coordination and lift. An employee will occasionally be required to balance, run, push, pull, and crawl
  • Follow emergency and safety procedures
  • Handle sensitive and/or stressful situations or information with tact, discretion, and significant awareness of confidentiality
  • Comply with suspected child abuse reporting
