Description
About the Department
The Community Development Department is responsible for planning the physical development of the community and ensuring that new development and modifications to existing development are completed in compliance with City and State laws. The Department provides technical information to residents, business owners, developers, and commissions regarding local codes, ordinances, and other related issues. The Planning Division reviews development plans, use permits, and other planning entitlements, and prepares land use plans focusing on the long-term growth and future development of the City.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews development proposals;
- Advises property owners, architects, builders, attorneys, contractors, engineers, and the general public regarding City development policies and standards;
- Reviews business license applications for compliance with zoning, sign, and related regulations;
- Writes and presents staff reports;
- Conducts research and prepares long-range planning documents and ordinances; and
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban planning or closely related field, and one (1) year professional planning experience
Special Requirements
- Possession of and ability to maintain a valid California driver's license. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) designation is highly desirable.
