Description

Grow & Thrive

Are you ready to help shape the future of technology and public service in San Bruno? Join us at a pivotal moment as the next Information Technology Manager—an opportunity to make a lasting impact within a collaborative, community-focused environment. Reporting to the Administrative Services Director & Chief Financial Officer (or designee), you’ll lead a dedicated team of professionals eager for new challenges as the division continues to evolve.

The City is looking for more than a caretaker for existing City systems—we’re looking for an individual to inspire a team, champion innovation, and guide citywide initiatives that range from modernizing infrastructure to strengthening cybersecurity and expanding online and remote municipal services. As a member of the Administrative Services Department management team, you’ll advance principles of excellence, responsiveness, and stewardship—all while visibly supporting City employees and the broader San Bruno community.

If you thrive on building strong teams, driving positive change, and laying the foundation for a smarter, more resilient organization, we invite you to submit your candidacy for this position.

About the Role

The Information Technology Manager will combine strategic vision with hands-on leadership and day-to-day supervision. Your immediate priorities will include developing a strategic path forward for the City’s recently completed Technology Assessment Report. This includes the establishment of an Information Technology governance structure, development of an IT Master Plan, and completion of a cybersecurity assessment. The new IT Manager will also have the opportunity to rebuild a team with recruitment of two or three vacancies resulting from attrition.  You'll play an integral role in elevating digital and remote service delivery for staff and residents. Successful candidates will be able to balance planning and problem-solving, mentoring and developing a skilled team, and embracing shifting priorities in San Bruno’s dynamic municipal landscape.

Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for a skilled project manager who builds consensus with user departments to strategically advance the many initiatives identified in the Technology Assessment. You bring self-awareness, knowing your strengths and opportunities for growth. You find professional joy in helping others, building effective teams, and supporting citywide progress. You foster a culture of vulnerability-based trust—modeling transparency, welcoming feedback, and sharing the purpose and passion that motivate you—resulting in true collaboration, accountability, and enthusiasm.

You believe in consensus-building, “yes, if” problem-solving, promote honest communication, and demonstrate a visionary approach. With strong technical expertise and a continual learning mindset, you’re ready to help San Bruno innovate, adapt, and grow.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, business administration, or a closely related field and five (5) years of professional information technology experience is required, including two (2) years at a supervisory level.
