San Juan Water District Seeks a Customer Service Technician
The Customer Service Technician is responsible to provide customer service and support to the public, responding to inquiries and complaints, receiving and processing payments and fees, and assisting with new connection and permit applications. The District can hire at the I or II level, depending on experience.
Duties Include:
- Providing customer service in person, by phone, and electronically; responding to inquiries and complaints regarding utility services, rate structures, billing, payments, hydrant permits, and service orders.
- Receiving, processing, and documenting customer utility payments, fees, and reimbursements; processing payments received by mail, phone, in person, and electronically.
- Assisting in resolving water-related service complaints.
- Maintaining customer accounts by monitoring and ensuring the accuracy of account information.
- Providing estimates to title companies when properties are being sold.
- Preparing, tracking, and assigning work orders related to leaks, service line breaks, water quality concerns, pressure issues, meter replacements, and time-and-material tracked services.
- Notifying customers regarding delinquent accounts, non-payments, and returned checks; applying late fees and penalties; following up on payment arrangements.
- Researching and investigating billing and payment inquiries; applying adjustments as appropriate.
- Preparing Will Serve letters, assigning meters, and assisting applicants with the application process.
To be considered, candidates should be knowledgeable of principles and practices of customer service, methods for cash handling and reconciliation, and billing and account management procedures.
The qualifications include:
I level:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent
II level:
- Two semesters of college level coursework or two years of experience related to business or accounting
AND
- One year of responsible experience equivalent to a Customer Service Technician I.
Both levels:
- Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator's class C license.
The salary range for the I level is $30.42 - $36.50 and for the II level $33.60 - $40.32, depending on qualifications. In addition, the District offers competitive benefits which include District contribution to CalPERS retirement, medical (100% of premium for most offered plans), dental and vision for employee and dependents; District paid life insurance; 12 paid days of sick leave; 12 paid holidays; and paid vacation depending on length of service. In addition, the District provides retiree health benefits with 50% of the premium paid with 10 years of service and an additional 5% with each year of service up to 100% with 20 years of service in CalPERS participating agencies.
